Chapter 359: Making of 359
“Activate.”
Chen Xu no longer hesitated, and activated the game developer option. After paying the fee, his account’s credit points instantly dwindled to mere fragments.
“Congratulations on becoming a game developer.”
The scene before his eyes shifted, entering another space surrounded by stars. In front of him was a small sphere of light. “Hello, respected game developer. I am your assistant and will help you develop your game.”
“Then, let’s get started.” Chen Xu wasted no time in banter and began constructing right away.
The freedom of the game developer option was extremely high, practically without any restrictions, giving the player complete creative liberty. In this space, the player was like a god, able to shape the game as they pleased.
Of course, the final product would need to pass a review. Content that was too gory or erotic couldn’t go live, or it would be restricted and only made available to a portion of players.
The most impressive aspect of this assistant was that it could provide knowledge-based support. Chen Xu wanted to create a game that trained doctors to perform surgeries, and the assistant immediately helped him establish a complete set of surgical training content, with categories ranging from easy to difficult. It was incredibly powerful.
What Chen Xu needed to do was design the ways to level up. For example, designing missions that would reward players upon completion. The balance here had to be just right, not too hard nor too easy.
Moreover, he would incorporate medical ethics into the mission design process. Simply put, he hoped to train doctors with professional ethics, not heartless quacks only out for money.
The details were a bit brain-consuming, needing constant refinement. Since he couldn’t find the right person for the job at the moment, he could afford to take his time.
Once he had roughly designed the framework, he exited this module and went into “Second Life.” Spending an additional ten thousand credit points, he realized he must work even harder to earn money. Otherwise, without enough credit points to pay for internet, being banned from accessing it would be a real headache.
……
The next day, after getting up, Chen Xu called Secretary Jin to inquire about Secretary Wen’s condition. Secretary Jin said she hadn’t woken up yet, but her condition was stable.
Originally, he had planned to visit his hometown today. With Luo Xiyun and Yang Jinxia not around, there wasn’t much point in staying, and he wanted to spend time with his parents. However, with this incident, he had to stay. Today, Secretary Wen’s parents were coming over, and it was only proper to meet them.
Secretary Wen had just graduated from university that year, at twenty-four, in the prime of her youth. This accident nearly took her life, and even after recovery, she wouldn’t be able to return to her former state.
He spent the entire morning at home, dealing with some work affairs via the internet.
Around noon, Chen Xu received a call from Secretary Jin, who informed him that Secretary Wen’s parents had arrived at the hospital. He changed clothes and drove to the hospital, where he met the elderly couple.
Secretary Wen’s family was modest, hailing from a small county town, both parents working within the system. Upon arriving at the hospital and seeing their daughter lying in the ICU, they were on the verge of collapse.
Chen Xu understood their feelings, as they had only this one daughter. Such an accident was undoubtedly a tremendous shock.
He comforted the elderly couple and assured them that the company would cover all medical and subsequent rehabilitation expenses.
After expressing his stance, he saw the elders calm down a bit, then made an excuse to leave. However, he didn’t leave the hospital; instead, he went to find his old classmate Zhou Juanjuan.
The hospital was the same one he had been admitted to last time. Since he was there, he had to at least stop by to say hello.
Zhou Juanjuan worked in a different department, on a different floor within the same hospital.
“Chen Xu?”
Zhou Juanjuan was chatting with colleagues in the duty room when she caught sight of Chen Xu at the door, surprised, “What brings you here?”
“I came to see you. What, am I not welcome?” Chen Xu walked in, nodded to greet the other nurses with a smile.
“Of course, you’re welcome,” Zhou Juanjuan stood up amidst the ambiguous looks from her colleagues, her face turning slightly red, and pulled him outside the room to talk.
In a secluded spot, she whispered, “You didn’t really come specifically to see me, did you?”
Chen Xu replied, “One of my secretaries was injured in a car accident and is hospitalized here. I decided to drop by and see you as well.”
Hearing this, Zhou Juanjuan immediately remembered the exceptionally beautiful secretary, “Ah, was it Secretary Jin? Is she okay?”
“It’s not her, it’s another one. She’s been rescued successfully but hasn’t woken up yet, still in the ICU.”
“I have friends over there, I’ll ask the doctor for you. What’s her name?” Zhou Juanjuan offered.
With doctor-patient relations so tense these days, doctors would always speak conservatively about a patient’s condition, especially in the case of serious injuries.
“Thank you.” Chen Xu gave her the name. “I owe you a lot for looking after me last time I was hospitalized. I haven’t properly thanked you yet. Are you free tonight? I’d like to buy you dinner.”
Zhou Juanjuan readily agreed, “Sure, just send me the address.”
They had exchanged WeChat contacts last time but hadn’t really been in touch. In fact, Chen Xu rarely used WeChat to communicate with others, and for many who had added him, he had never even chatted with them once. Zhou Juanjuan was just one among them.
As Zhou Juanjuan needed to return to work, Chen Xu didn’t keep her further and left after discussing the matter at hand.
……
Chen Xu was planning to check on the data center that was still under construction. A week had passed since his last visit, and although he could keep up with the progress through the internet, he felt uneasy not seeing it in person.
The entire data center utilized a brand-new model, unlike any existing data center. All designed by Chen Xu himself, convincing the construction team had taken quite a bit of persuasion.
This novel model meant the construction team had no prior experience, and he worried that without his presence, mistakes could occur.
Naturally, the data center wouldn’t be located in the city center; the high-demand areas were costly, and the city would never allocate such valuable land resources to him.
The data center was situated in a newly designated high-tech zone in the outskirts, projected to be the largest data center in the world, with significant preferential policies granted by the city.
From where Chen Xu lived to the high-tech zone, it was about a half-hour drive without traffic. He always tried to avoid the rush hours, but still often found himself in traffic jams, whether on the highway or on national roads.
This was one of the downsides of living in a big city, as well as where the value of hiring a driver came in. Caught in traffic, he could sit in the backseat and handle some documents through the internet.
Chen Xu stayed at the data center for the afternoon and didn’t return to the city until the evening.
