Chapter 346: 346 Hard Charge
Chen Xu arrived at the last house and found the people inside refused to come out, which gave him a bit of a headache. Last time, he knew there was danger inside, but had no choice; however hard he tried to lure them out, it didn’t work, so he had no option but to rush in. At the very least, he would be able to figure out how many people were inside.
“Try this.”
He simply brought some firewood over, piled it at the doorway, and lit it on fire. It quickly started to burn, sending billows of smoke inside.
The people inside soon couldn’t hold out any longer and rushed out, where he took them down one by one, then charged into the smoky interior only to be shocked, the hostage was killed.
Mission failed.
His task had been to rescue the kidnapped tycoon, and with the person dead, naturally, he too had failed.
The third attempt.
He struggled to fight his way to the last house, already injured, this time facing more than seventy adversaries. Managing to get that far was already him doing his best.
This time, he climbed onto the roof, which was covered with tiles. He carefully removed two tiles and saw there were a total of thirteen people inside. The hostage was tied up in the middle on a chair.
With a gun in each hand, he inserted them into the hole, relying on memory, he fired.
A revolver held six bullets, two guns therefore held twelve in total, and after firing all the bullets, he quickly threw the empty weapons aside, grasped another gun he’d prepared beforehand, and stuck it into the hole, firing the last shot.
He pulled back the gun and looked down into the hole, seeing that the people inside had fallen all over the floor, seemingly all dead.
Then, he returned to ground level, pushed the door open, and entered the house, seeing the hostage wounded in the middle, but alive. He breathed a sigh of relief.
“Finally completed it.”
“Class change mission complete. Please take the rescued hostage back to the police station to claim your reward.”
Chen Xu saw the prompt and took the hostage back with him.
He did not entertain the thought of another attempt. The enemies would be more numerous next time, and he might not even make it to the last house. It was good enough to have completed it.
“Chen Xu, you’ve passed the test. From today on, you become a member of the special task force. This is your gear.”
After returning to the police station, the chief personally rewarded him. A brand new uniform and a revolver with a larger caliber.
“Is this what they call class change completion?”
He was a little curious and after leaving the police station, went out of town to kill monsters.
Once he left the town and ran a good distance, he soon encountered a huge wild buffalo. It was a level twenty beast that could even be found near the Chen Family Gathering, the highest level monster there. Previously, it would take him ten bullets to take it down with his gun.
He fired two shots, hitting its head, and with a loud thump, it fell down, dead just like that.
“Impressive.”
He had not expected the new gun to be so powerful, downing a wild buffalo with just two shots. Generally speaking, after a class change, one’s damage capability might double at best. Now, his attack strength had increased fivefold.
He estimated this had to do with his profession. This class change had given him just this gun, with no other changes. Other professions got an overall boost, like attack, speed, physical condition, and so on.
So, it was normal that his attack went up by so much.
This would greatly speed up his leveling.
Time flew, and before he knew it, half a year had passed.
In the dungeon, a voice shouted, “Quick, shoot, take it down…”
Bang.
Accompanied by a gunshot, the BOSS fell to the ground.
The voice from before complained, “Can’t you move any faster? I’m almost out of blood.”
Another voice responded, “I was down to my last bullet. If I didn’t aim for its weak point, we wouldn’t have killed it, and we’d both be dead.”
These two were none other than Chen Xu and Mu Shang.
Two months ago, Mu Shang had finally located him and they joined forces. Working together to grind levels was much faster than playing solo.
As they collected their loot, they conversed.
Chen Xu said, “I’ve leveled up to thirty, let’s head to Jun county when we get back.”
Mu Shang exclaimed with delight, “Finally leveled up, haha, wait until you’ve changed class a second time, then we can take on transcendental tasks.”
Only after reaching level thirty and undergoing a second class change could one be qualified to take on transcendental missions.
Mu Shang had already reached level thirty and had failed several times doing transcendental missions solo. Then he sought out others to cooperate with, only to end up badly double-crossed.
He had no choice but to seek out Chen Xu. For the past two months, he had been leading Chen Xu in leveling because he had already undergone a second class change, making him stronger overall. That was the confidence behind them daring to take on this dungeon mission just by themselves.
Mu Shang had chosen the warrior’s path, donning armor and acting as the main tanker (MT) for drawing enemy attention. Chen Xu, as the ranged damage dealer with high attack power, took care of the offensive from the side. Their cooperation was seamless, and they leveled up quickly.
After grinding for seven or eight months, Chen Xu had finally caught up with the main pack. On the levels leaderboard, the highest was forty-three. The mainstream players were all between levels twenty and thirty. His own level wasn’t low anymore.
His profession could be said to have given him an edge, high attack made killing monsters fast.
Once they left the dungeon, they sold some unnecessary items to a vendor at the city gate, converting them into Gold Coin.
In the game, monsters didn’t drop Gold Coin when killed, only leaving behind bodies, which could be sold for money. Other than guilds buying these, there were also life players who spent money on them.
This was the main income source for players.
Of course, if they encountered humanoid monsters like bandits, killing them would make them drop Gold Coin.
After returning to Jun county, they dealt with some unwanted gear and left for a larger map, Enemy Country.
Enemy Country was a bit far away, and they traveled there by train.
This time, Chen Xu, armed with his new orders, quickly received his class change mission upon arriving. There were rumors of Enemy Country’s spies just outside the city, and the mission was to capture one of them.
It was a solo mission for him. Others could help with class change missions, but it would decrease the completion rate. The stronger the help brought along, the lower one’s own evaluation would be, and consequently, less reward would be received.
Not far from the city, there was a valley. Walking in, Chen Xu discovered a hidden base; alright, this was another special dungeon.
There were people guarding the base, wearing special uniforms from the opposing nation.
This province bordered Enemy Country, but for someone to infiltrate national territory and establish a base was a bit too far-fetched.
The environment here was rather complex and he proceeded cautiously, intending to survey properly, only to get shot. A pain in the chest nearly knocked the breath out of him.
He reacted swiftly, raising his hand to shoot, and killed the assailant.
He touched his bulletproof vest; although it could reduce the bullet’s impact, being shot would still cost him a tenth of his health.
There was no choice, he had to charge through the situation now.
