Chapter 331: 331 Deadlock
Chen Chao was indeed very busy. Around noon, a few guests arrived at the office and began discussing with Chen Chao.
Chen Xu listened for a while and realized that they were from an animation film production company, checking on the progress of the production. He didn’t stay to disturb them and after notifying Chen Chao, he left.
After discussing business for a while, Chen Chao suddenly asked, “Recently, which companies are looking to raise investment?”
“Why, Mr. Chen, are you also interested in investing? Invest in us then, we are short.”
“I don’t have that kind of capital. It’s for a friend of mine who wants to find a new project to invest in. Do you know any?”
“Consider us,” they said, “just another ten million, and it could be perfect. Moreover, we are releasing next year. The investment cycle is short.”
Chen Chao said, “I can’t do much there, I can only speak to them for you. As to whether it will work out, I can’t guarantee since they specifically want to do new projects.”
Hearing this, they asked him to put in a good word for them and then shared a few names, leaving their contact details.
Among them were two people he had worked with before. He wasn’t too pleased with them; they always pushed for lower prices while having high demands, which caused him a lot of headaches. However, these options seemed to fit Chen Xu’s needs.
Chen Chao himself worked in this line and knew well that to achieve great special effects in movies, one needs to be willing to spend money and pursue perfection as quality comes from meticulous work.
So, he called both people. Conveniently, one of them was in the city. He immediately called Chen Xu.
…
In the afternoon, Chen Xu met Director Huang, who looked quite young, probably not yet thirty, and was very cheerful.
“This is the script I wrote, including the main character design and some storyboards.”
Director Huang took out his laptop, opened it, and showed them what he had prepared.
It must be said that he was well-prepared; the character design was done with great care, and the main scenes already had sketches.
After reviewing the character designs and others, Chen Xu went back and started reading the script. After a while, he said, “This script differs from the mythical stories.”
“Yes,” Director Huang explained, “I re-created it using characters from myths. After all, the myths passed down have substantial differences with modern values, and if we copied them directly, it might be hard for the viewers to resonate emotionally.”
He intended to make a film about Yang Jian.
From Great Saint and The White Snake to Nezha, successive animated movies had been box-office hits. Industry peers seemed to see a path to success and turned their attention to Yang Jian.
Chen Xu talked with him for over half an hour and felt it was acceptable, mainly because he trusted Chen Chao not to introduce unreliable people to him.
Finally, he took down Director Huang’s contact information, agreeing to another meeting in a few days.
Anyway, Yunxu was Luo Xiyun’s company. He could only offer suggestions; the final decisions were hers to make.
After leaving the cafe, Chen Xu asked Chen Chao about the other person’s prepared project.
Chen Chao said, “Legends of Mount Shu.”
“That seems a bit niche,” Chen Xu remembered that this novel had been adapted into television and films primarily in Xiangjiang, with no notable adaptations in the mainland.
“It’s not completely without foundation. Now that so many people read online novels, there definitely are many who know this novel. If it is well-made, it will surely attract a large audience.”
“Why not adapt the hottest online novels directly?”
“That’s not easy, getting the rights is difficult. The hottest ones are usually all bought out.”
“You seem quite knowledgeable about this.”
“Hehe, actually, I’ve written web novels before, but I updated too slowly and flopped hard.”
……………
Chen Xu returned to the Fang family villa late in the evening. He then went to Chen Chao’s house, where Chen Chao and his wife insisted on having him stay for dinner, and he left after eating.
Luo Xiyun was sitting alone in the living room; upon seeing him, she came over and held his hand.
He asked, “Has grandma gone to sleep?”
“Yes.” Luo Xiyun rested her head on his shoulder and said, “They all went out after dinner.”
These days, it was rare for them to have time alone. They sat on the sofa, embracing. He then mentioned the matters regarding Chen Chao and Director Huang and concluded, “When we get back, you should meet them.”
Luo Xiyun listened quietly, and after he finished, she softly replied, “Yes.”
She whispered, “I might have neglected you these past few days.”
Chen Xu tightened his hold on her hand, “You don’t often come home, so of course, you should spend more time with the elderly. We’ll have plenty of time in the future. If you really feel bad, just make it up to me when we return.”
Luo Xiyun didn’t respond; her fingers scratched the palm of his hand.
After a while, she said, “Let’s go back tomorrow. There’s some matters at the company that require my attention.”
“Is it serious?”
She shook her head, “A foreign gaming company is seeking partnership, and Secretary Guo can’t decide on her own. I have to get back.”
“What about your grandmother?”
“I’ve already spoken to her.” Luo Xiyun’s face showed some reluctance as she said, “Chen Xu, can we come back here often in the future?”
“Yes, whenever you want to come back, I’ll accompany you.”
The two of them continued to sit close together on the sofa.
“Right, my little brother will also come with us this time. He’ll stay at my place for a few days,” Luo Xiyun remembered something and said, “You know, my youngest aunt and my uncle aren’t getting along well. I don’t want to leave my little brother here.”
Chen Xu knew that Fang Huwen was reluctant to let her son return to the country, and Zhang Yixuan’s determination likely contributed to her agreeing.
If Zhang Yixuan stayed at Luo Xiyun’s place, that would mean an extra person around, something Chen Xu wasn’t too pleased about, though he couldn’t show it.
He questioned, “I noticed these past few days that your youngest aunt seemed much more relaxed around your grandmother, why is it still like this?”
Talking about this, Luo Xiyun couldn’t help but sigh, “Both grandma and my youngest aunt are too stubborn, neither willing to reconcile first. It’s tough on Uncle, caught in the middle.”
Chen Xu inquired, “Are they also leaving?”
“They have a flight the day after tomorrow. After they leave this time, who knows how long it will be before they can truly reconcile.”
Chen Xu couldn’t help but think about Xiyun. If it weren’t for the virtual reality device during their last breakup, they might have ended up like this too.
Pride comes before a fall.
Sometimes, someone needs to break the deadlock.
An idea popped into his head, and he said, “I have an idea.”
