Chapter 55: You Are the Only One That I Love

The car stopped at the door to her apartment building.

Lieutenant Shang pulled open the door for Huo Weiwu and stood aside respectfully.

“The Commander has informed me not to walk with you to your place. You have been granted relative freedom,” said Lieutenant Shang.

“Relative freedom? What do you mean?” asked Huo Weiwu as she emerged from the vehicle.

Lieutenant Shang shut the door and smiled. “It means that Madam should stop making the Commander angry. Otherwise, the next maid that you get will not be as easily persuaded as Auntie Long.”

Huo Weiwu quirked her lips into a pretty and flirtatious smile. She replied meaningfully, “What the eye doesn’t see, the heart doesn’t grieve over. Why waste time purposely seeking to be angered?”

Lieutenant Shang was speechless.

Huo Weiwu swung her bag as she entered the elevator lazily and pressed a button.

The elevator doors swung open again.

Huo Weiwu instantly caught sight of the handsome man leaning against her apartment door.

Even though he did not smoke in the past, there was now a cigarette between his fingers. The smoke made his delicate face look hazy and gave him a dispirited aura. There were vague traces of coldness in his cultured and refined scholarly appearance.

After more than ten days of not meeting, Wei Yankang had become completely different from the gentle and kind memory she had of him.

Huo Weiwu’s eyelids drooped as she walked toward her apartment without any expression on her face. She regarded him coolly and was straight to the point, “Don’t show up here again or I’ll have no choice but to move away.”

“Were you the one who told Jiaoxue that I slept with you?” asked Wei Yankang incredulously.

Huo Weiwu quirked her lips into a beautiful but aloof smile. It made her look mocking. “What’s wrong? Did you come here today to criticize me?”

“Xiaowu, I’ve told you before that you are the only one that I love. Can’t you just wait three years for me?” pleaded Wei Yankang.

“Why should I wait three years for you? From the age of 19 to 26, I’ve waited seven years for you. And what have you given me in return? Betrayal, humiliation, and endless pain. Why should I give you another chance to hurt me!

“I’m only 26 now, and I still have my youth. I don’t want to still be grieving you when I’m 36. Why should I humiliate myself because of the same guy twice?” Huo Weiwu had grown agitated. Her eyes were wide open.

Wei Yankang felt his heart ache. He hugged Huo Weiwu and said gently, “Xiaowu, believe me, I won’t hurt you a second time. I swear, if I hurt you again, I’ll suffer a horrible death.”

Huo Weiwu took a deep breath. Her eyes grew calm as she said icily, “I’m sorry, I don’t trust you. Let go of me.”

“I won’t let go. Xiaowu, I’m exhausted. The weight of my mission and responsibility to my family is nearly suffocating me. I just want to have you by my side,” said Wei Yankang as he frowned in despair. He embraced Huo Weiwu even more tightly as though he wanted to absorb her into his bones.

Huo Weiwu snorted. She looked at him without any trace of warmth in her gaze and said cynically, “Wei Yankang, how old are you this year? Don’t you have the right to decide for yourself? Don’t you have the ability to support yourself? Don’t you have the ability to distinguish right from wrong?”

“But I am the only son in my family!” protested Wei Yankang helplessly.

Huo Weiwu pushed Wei Yankang away. There were little flames of anger dancing in her eyes, and they were shining as she raged, “You’re not the only one in that situation! Since you feel that you are the only son and that you should bear the rise and fall of the family business, then continue to sell yourself. Continue to sleep with Gu Jiaoxue and get her pregnant. You’re about to marry her. Why did you come here to look for me?”

“You’re the only one that I love,” said Wei Yankang in despair.

“Get lost!” Huo Weiwu exploded. “Don’t use your hypocrisy to try and manipulate me. I’m no longer an ignorant little girl who will fall for your lies. If I’m the only one that you love, how do you manage to get an erection when you sleep with Gu Jiaoxue?”
