Chapter 40: His Timely Presence (1)

Ning Youyou only gave her an awkward smile.

Would he even make it? She was not sure. Never had she thought that she would be the one getting stood up.

“He’s probably caught in traffic. Hey, why don’t you go inside? I’ll be here waiting for him.”

“Youyou, you’re such a bad liar.” Xiao Hong sighed.

Xiao Lan let go of the muscular man and pulled Ning Youyou aside to somewhere quiet so that they could talk in private. “Youyou, be honest with me. You were just lying about your partner, right? Did you even ask anyone?”

Ning Youyou responded with an awkward laugh.

Xiao Lan was a wise and shrewd woman, so she decided to be candid with her.

“Damn; he promised to come, but still hasn’t shown up! I’ll give him a harsh beating when I see him.”

To Xiao Lan’s chagrin, he was nowhere to be seen.

Ning Youyou laughed inwardly. “It’s no big deal. It’s all right for him not to be here. I can handle it myself, anyway.”

“But…”

“All right, everybody’s here. Let’s get in! I’m done waiting for him.” Without wasting any more time, Ning Youyou pulled Xiao Lan back to the hotel’s entrance, where Xiao Hong was still standing.

The two men gave Ning Youyou a look, which prompted her to say hello as a kind gesture.

It was about time for the opening ceremony, so they did not want to cause any delay. Swiftly, they grabbed their men and walked through the security barriers before arriving at the reception.

Xiao Lan offered her partner to Ning Youyou, but she strongly disagreed.

“Xiao Lan, stop making me feel bad. This doesn’t do any of us any good. Also, he’s not my type at all.”

“What type do you fancy?”

“About that; I’ll let you know when I see one.”

Before they entered the hotel, Ning Youyou turned around and looked at the entrance for one last time, but all she saw was disappointment. There was no one there, not even a car that passed by.

At this point, she was convinced that he was not coming at all.

She let out a long sigh of despair and walked straight into the ballroom.

On the highway, a Rolls-Royce was seen driving at full speed. Mu Shaoqing took out his phone to look at the time, only to realize that It was already half-past seven, which prompted him to cry out in an irritated tone.

“Damn it!”

In fact, he was not exactly pleased about the business deal that he had just signed with a foreign company, for he was annoyed by how indecisive his business partners were. So much time had been wasted just for them to sign their names finally.

Tang An, who was seated in the front passenger’s seat, took a hurried look at his boss in the back.

The morning’s impromptu meeting was a nightmare for all the executives.

Throughout the whole session, the big boss looked livid with rage. Even the representatives from France were astounded by his exasperation.

Luckily, the representative was sensible enough to seal the deal without further ado. No one knew what he would do if they delayed the signing ceremony any longer.

What Tang An did not expect was that he did not join their business partners for dinner. Instead, he only sent the senior executives to represent him. Before he left the company for LOVE Hotel, he even spent some time changing into formal evening clothes.

Perplexed, Tang An could not figure out the reason for his visit to LOVE.

Tonight was the company’s annual ball, which was meant as a reward for the employees. Although the venue was a five-star hotel, the standard of its food was still incomparable to the delicacies from a fine-dining restaurant that his boss was accustomed to.

Nevertheless, he did ask Tang An about the ball once. Was it because he was suddenly interested in the lifestyle of his employees?

The ball? Hold on. Tang An was asked to investigate a woman before. Could it be?
