Chapter 1420: Chapter 1420: In a Casual Conversation
Members of the Star Ocean Guild simply couldn’t believe their own eyes. They had made it to the eighth defense line and were among the first six teams to reach area number ninety-one, standing out from so many teams, which showcased their formidable overall strength.
Yet, in their view, Starfire had also suffered heavy losses. Even if Starfire was stronger than them, it was only by a slight margin.
As per their alliance oath, they were prepared to fight to the death. Even if they failed, Starfire’s army of over forty thousand would not be left with much, temporarily losing the qualifications to compete for the ninety-one pathway.
However, what did they see? The first wave of Five consecutive stars, that is, five consecutive shots, had inflicted devastating damage on their charging Legion of death knights.
The second wave of attacks caused significant casualties among the Hate Legion, and the subsequent contact was even more shocking.
Those iron-clad insects were terrifying to the extreme, continuously reaping the lives of the death knights. The charges of the death knights simply couldn’t break through the defense line of the Steel Fire Poison Cockroaches.
Like crashing against an iron wall, the death knights were almost completely annihilated, with only the Hate Legion constantly brawling with the Flame-Poison Mantises, trading blows evenly.
Abominations, as patched-up monsters, no longer had the typical fatal weaknesses of normal creatures, so even the cursed arrows from the Divine Guard Rangers couldn’t kill them in one strike.
They were stitched together from various corpses, armed with hooks and large cleavers, and were extremely ferocious.
But in reality, although it seemed like there was an exchange of blows with the Steel Fire Poison Cockroaches, the badly wounded cockroaches were either healed by Priests from behind or they burrowed underground to recover, leaving very few actually dead.
The reason Starfire lost five thousand was due to the pincer attack by both players and monsters at the sixth defense line. Because of players’ restraint, the ranged professions didn’t kill the Tauren Mages quickly enough. The Tauren were proficient in earth magic, and burrowing underground would lead to death by the Tauren Mages, plus the intense battle situation kept the Priests too busy to attend to the numerous casualties.
In fact, apart from the sixth defense line, Starfire hardly lost any troops along the way.
The reason for their sharpness was mainly the Rangers’ ultra-long-range attacks. Running and projecting at long range cost them some accuracy but greatly extended their range, achieving long-distance strikes.
And at medium to long distances were the Mages and fire poison bombs, while special forces had not yet been deployed.
“How the hell are we supposed to fight this? We’ve lost a third of our forces; they’ve probably lost less than one percent.”
“Damn it, fuck.”
“Is this even human?”
Everyone in the Star Ocean Guild was an expert, but facing such a situation, their expressions changed drastically, finding it extremely hard to accept this outcome; it was just too demoralizing.
The Fire Poison Cockroaches’ lethality was average, but their defense lines were too solid. After clashing, the opposing Rangers and Mages were frantically reaping their soldiers from behind.
Adding to that were Li Yao’s terrifying pets, the guild’s treasures, the Star Shine Dragon and Blade Queen, whose killing power was even more formidable. And this was all without the Black Dragon Queen taking action.
Boom, boom, boom, boom…
The ground kept shaking. The members of the Star Ocean Guild looked in the direction of the noise and saw a terrifying army of Devil Tyrannosaurus charging towards them.
“Fucking hell, has Starfire gone mad or what, dragging out the troops that are supposed to protect their guild’s base.”
“Dude, they’re totally bullying us.”
“They’re not following the normal playbook at all. Aren’t they afraid that someone will take the chance to attack Starfire’s base?”
The players of Star Ocean were going nuts, cursing left and right. They had Devil Tyrannosaurus legions too, all obtained through merits from the last great battle, but they treasured them like precious pets in the guild.
They were one of the guild’s last resorts, and they even wanted to train them, hoping to breed the next generation of Devil Tyrannosaurus. Usually, not even ordinary players could use them, let alone Squid, the guild leader, using them as his private force.
A female Mage pointed at a mark beside the Devil Tyrannosaurus’s neck and said, “That’s not a guild mark, but a player’s, the personal mark of Stupid-Cute Eyes. God, can’t believe they’d let such a badass legion be played with by a kid.”
A male player, green with envy, said, “So many Devil Tyrannosauruses, just their daily meat consumption alone, I bet no one in our guild can support that…”
Squid’s face was as dark as thunder. These guys were not even trying to think of a way to fight off the enemy, they had given up completely.
But as much as he complained, Squid had no solution either. Tough luck that he had signed an unbreakable alliance pact. Failing to intercept Starfire this time meant he could only suck it up and wait for another opportunity elsewhere.
The Devil Tyrannosaurus striking from the flank decided the outcome of the battle. The enemy’s vanguard was annihilated, and their main force, the Abomination, was engaged in front battle, utterly unable to focus on both fronts, and got completely steamrolled.
Plus, with the Gryphons continually picking off easy targets from the sky, the battle ended quickly. Forty of the enemy were wiped out. Trying to run in such a war was problematic; individual power was just too limited.
The folks from Starfire were chilling in the back, snacking on fruits atop a Hell Battle Scorpion, watching the show.
A Guardian Angel, savoring her wine, said to the excited Stupid-Cute Eyes, “Kid, are you still going to whine about not being able to support your Devil Tyrannosauruses? For the sake of food for your legions, you’ve been making us join you in hunting monsters for leveling up. No complaints this time, huh?”
Eating a grape contentedly, Stupid-Cute Eyes rolled her eyes at the Guardian Angel, “Humph, look who’s talking. You secretly raised five thousand Devil Tyrannosauruses. I shared some of the meat I got from grinding with you, and you still bullied Sister Fruit. Last time when Sister Fruit wanted a Devil Tyrannosaurus, you said it was too expensive and you couldn’t afford it.”
“Damn it, you brat, you’ve got no loyalty at all. Last time you were whining about your sister-in-law giving you too little pocket money, afraid to sell Gold Coins on the trading platform in case she found out. You even threatened me into selling Gold Coins to you,” the Guardian Angel lost her cool.
Hmm?
Li Yao and Feng Yi each looked toward their targets, Stupid-Cute Eyes’s little face immediately fell, and the Guardian Angel looked as pale as death, her secret stash exposed again…
Everyone burst into laughter. After a while, the Legion finished sweeping the battlefield. Since Li Yao was the commander, all the troops could benefit from his legion’s skills, meaning every defeated army resulted in a ton of spoils to collect.
Even the beast monsters, thanks to the legion skills, could be disassembled, yielding lots of various materials. Humanoid legion went without saying; once down, except for the players, all the equipment on them would be looted.
“Teams are already attacking the ninth barrier, what should we do?” Feng Yi asked.
Li Yao thought for a bit and then said, “Joining now might get us into a melee, which is not to our advantage. Plus, this fortress only has one direction to attack from. Let’s wait for them to take down the fortress, and then we’ll make our move. Anyway, three hours until the passage appears, plenty of time.”…
