Chapter 1417: Chapter 1417: Charge
Li Yao glanced at the team from the Heavenly Guild before speaking, “Starfire never takes the initiative to provoke enemies, but this time is different. This concerns the competition for the first kill in the main mission dungeon. Even allies would come to blows over access to a passage, let alone us, who are already in opposing factions. Moreover, there is existing enmity between our guilds.”
The face of the president of the Heavenly Guild turned very ugly in an instant: “Yes, our guild once foolishly joined others in trying to loot amidst chaos, but Starfire’s counterattack resulted in the loss of a guild base we built up, isn’t that enough? I have already shown goodwill, why must Starfire be so ruthless? Besides, even though our strength may not match Starfire’s, taking us down would still waste a lot of your time, and this could instead give others the chance.”
“I’ve said it before, this is a battle for the passageway. Grudges matter, but not much. It’s mainly about the competition over the passageway. If you don’t want to be against Starfire, then just keep your distance from us in a moment. Moreover, your threats don’t work on me. You think too highly of your guild if you believe you can delay us,” Li Yao finished, no longer paying any attention to the people from the Heavenly Guild.
The faces of the Heavenly Guild members were ugly, filled with extreme anger. In the ancient gods, who would truly be afraid of others? It’s just that this qualification battle was too important; they didn’t want to come up against an incredibly strong enemy right at the start, that’s all. Once they had secured a sufficiently high ranking, they would naturally fight with all their might.
This was like a world-class competition, where a team of average ability met the reigning world champion team right at the start; how tragic that would be. But if that team was lucky enough to encounter the champions in the quarter-finals or semi-finals, then they would obviously give it their all. The logic was the same.
If they were eliminated by Starfire here, it would truly be tragic for them. Even if they managed to delay Starfire and cause Starfire to be disqualified as well, that would only benefit other guilds. For their guild, it would bring no advantage at all and instead make them a sworn enemy of Starfire.
“System: Defense switch complete, the competition for the passageway begins.”
Once the competition began, the majority of the teams were not thinking about how to attack, but how to defend.
This was because as players focused on farming commendations left the war mode, the monsters in the ruins of the massive battle lost their targets, which the monsters saw as a very good opportunity.
Therefore, after those players and their legions were teleported away by the System, the monsters launched a counterattack.
Hence, the majority of the guilds immediately chose defensive formations; they had to withstand the first wave of monster attacks before they could even think about counterattacking.
The reason for doing this was simple, because from now on, there were only two methods to re-summon their armies.
The first method was to capture a passageway; the second was to be wiped out and restart.
Facing the assault of the Monster Corps, a direct charge in formation would lead to enormous losses.
Of course, this did not include guilds that possessed Monster Corps particularly suited for charging or other powerful legions.
And Starfire was one of them; the Monster Corps faced by Starfire consisted of Kobolds, with only two types of units in the Kobold team. One was the Kobold Warrior, armed with stone weapons at that.
The other type was the Kobold Geomancer, which could also be seen as a variant of the Shaman. However, they were only adept at communicating with the elemental earth, unlike other Shamans who could harness the power of all four elements.
It’s not that these Shamans were weak; on the contrary, specializing in one type made them very strong. Still, like the High Elves, Kobold bodies were even less suitable for being warriors than High Elves, so their so-called warriors were nothing more than cannon fodder.
Their attacks were sharp, but their defensive power was inadequate.
“Kill!”
Therefore, as soon as the System gave the signal, Starfire’s team rushed out and launched a frenzied charge.
The Devil Tyrannosaurus Legion led the vanguard, directly colliding with the formation of the Kobold Warriors.
Kobolds are only about one and a half meters tall, much like Gnomish Dwarves, with candles on their heads and mining baskets on their backs, a true miner’s get-up.
While the Warcraft Level Devil Tyrannosaurus Legion averaged giants of over a dozen meters tall.
The Devil Tyrannosaurus Legion ripped through the Kobold formation as if they were tearing apart rotten wood.
Following closely behind was the main force of Starfire, guarded by the Fire Poison Cockroach Army. The Kobolds were not to be underestimated, but their weapons were blunt and they lacked the ability to kill cockroaches with a single blow. Coupled with the cockroaches’ insane recovery abilities, they simply weren’t afraid of attacks from Kobold Warriors.
In front of Starfire, there were at least fifty thousand Kobold Warriors, and behind them more than ten thousand Kobold Geomancers. They frantically swung their huge Magic Wands, uttering Dragonic tongues. Kobolds possess the bloodline of the Dragon Clan and have mastered the Dragonic language, allowing their Spells to reach a higher level.
They had already launched their first wave of attacks, trying to stop the Devil Tyrannosaurs with Earth Walls, but those Devil Tyrannosaurs, like crazed tanks, were not something mere Earth Walls could stop.
So they started their second wave of Spells, changing from defensive Magic to offensive Magic.
The guarding Divine Guard Rangers shouted while running swiftly: “Draw bows, shoot high, target Kobold Mages.”
The Rangers were incredibly agile, and their running didn’t affect their ability to draw bows and nock arrows one bit. Following the lead Divine Guard Ranger’s command, waves of Arrow Rain flew into the high sky and then traced beautiful parabolas to fall amongst the formation of Kobold Mages in the rear, promptly bringing down a large number of Kobolds with arrows.
“Mages, don’t get shown up by the Rangers, target the encroaching Kobold Warriors, Arcane Storm, ease the pressure on our vanguards.”
The lead Mage spoke while casting Magic, all the Mages shrouded in purple light.
And above the heads of the Kobold Warriors who surrounded the cockroaches, basketball-sized Arcane Orbs appeared. With the crazy spinning of the Arcane Orbs, it was like a downpour of purple lights, extremely dazzling, but behind this dazzle was endless lethality.
In the sky, the Griffin Legion divided into squads, diving steadily, hunting the Kobolds.
A Kobold army of fifty thousand, in less than five minutes, was overrun by the main force of Starfire, leaving the remaining Kobolds behind, too scared to pursue.
And the ten thousand Mages fared even worse, having been mostly reaped by wave after wave of Arrow Rains.
Meanwhile, Starfire only paid a negligible price, with virtually no damage overall, and Li Yao’s skeletons were even replenished.
The battle prowess of Starfire completely shocked the surrounding teams; while they were still resisting the Kobold onslaught, Starfire had already finished their counter-slaughter and entered the precincts of the relics.
It’s known that the terrain inside the relics isn’t the same everywhere, with many areas unsuitable for the army to move through, and there’s a fair number of outposts and forts; Starfire being the first to rush through naturally allowed them to choose their route freely.
Of course, Starfire wasn’t the only exceptional one…
