Chapter 368: Chapter 369 Third Aunt Zhou’s Jealousy
Third Aunt Zhou didn’t expect her mother-in-law to put her in such an embarrassing position in front of the kids. Suddenly boiling with rage, she lost her appetite and, turning around, pulled her daughter along, huffing and puffing, “You’re still eating, eating, eating, haven’t you seen your grandma doesn’t welcome us?”
Zhou Ru had barely begun chewing the chicken in her mouth before her mom dragged her out.
Still clueless, she chewed the chicken, her face a mix of surprise and relish, “Mom, my cousin’s wife really does make good food.”
Third Aunt Zhou glanced at her daughter’s pitiable state and grew even angrier, “Eat, eat, eat, that’s all you know! Didn’t you see your grandma gave that key to your cousin’s wife?
Do you even know what that key is? It represents the entirety of the Old Zhou Family’s fortune. I don’t know what the old folks are thinking, not passing the family wealth down to their grandson, but to an outsider’s child instead.”
The more Third Aunt Zhou thought about it, the angrier she got. That key had to be retrieved at all costs.
Zhou Ru wasn’t very familiar with the family affairs. Since she was young, her parents wouldn’t allow her to mention her grandparents, but she knew her grandparents were capitalists, meaning they were wealthy, prominent families.
However, this time her grandparents came back, they only gave her some trinkets and pocket money amounting to a few bucks, not at all as wealthy as claimed. Her mom was just making things up.
“Maybe that was my aunt’s dowry,” Zhou Ru grumbled, still missing the chicken she had just eaten.
Third Aunt Zhou gave her daughter a sharp look, “Even if it was your aunt’s dowry, it’s still the Zhou family’s property.
When your aunt got married, your grandparents had already given a dowry. That stuff was not part of it.”
She had learned from the men that it was because her father-in-law and mother-in-law had a significant amount of valuable possessions that they had been targeted and taken down.
For years, Old Lady Zhou and Old Man Zhou vehemently denied owning these valuables, which remained hidden, but Old Lady Zhou had a key, one that she fiercely protected.
The Zhou family had guessed that the key might be for those very valuables, so when Third Aunt Zhou saw the key given to Xu Ying, she was practically beside herself with anger.
That key, she would have to snatch back no matter what.
The mother and daughter had barely left when Third Uncle Zhou also felt he couldn’t stay put any longer, “Dad, Mom, I think I’ll head back too.”
He said with a face full of regret as he stood up.
Old Lady Zhou looked at her son, her face etched with disappointment, “Go on back.”
Hearing his mother’s consent, Third Uncle Zhou quickly got up and chased after them.
Old Lady Zhou looked at Xu Ying with an apologetic face, “Don’t listen to your Third Aunt Zhou’s nonsense. I really like you, girl. Now that you’ve married into the family, we Zhou family members should naturally treat you well.”
She said, her eyes brimming with tears, feeling heartache when she thought of the days before Huo Chen.
Lu Aimin breathed a sigh of relief when Old Lady Zhou said this.
Even though Huo Chen was good to him, he couldn’t turn his back on his own people. He and Xu Ying were from the same village, and Xu Ying had helped him and his little sister so much; morally and emotionally, he considered Yingying half his kin.
Old Lady Zhou continued eating, her eyes red, “I don’t know when my grandson will come back.”
Old Man Zhou was also worrying about it, which is why, despite eating, he would occasionally stretch his neck and glance towards the store entrance.
Each time he didn’t see anyone, his heart ached a bit more.
“He’ll definitely be back later. With the lady boss here, the boss wouldn’t stray too far,” the girl working in the store said with a smile.
Their boss was absolutely smitten with his wife. No matter how late it was, he had to return at least once to see that his wife was okay.
It was said that the boss opened this shop so close by because he missed his wife so much.
Hearing this made Old Lady Zhou’s heart clench. Her grandson, like her daughter, was equally as devoted.
But unlike her daughter, who had poor luck in relationships, she looked at Xu Ying and thought she was a good person. Surely she wouldn’t disappoint their precious grandson.
“So we’ll just wait a little longer,” Old Lady Zhou said.
After lunch, Xu Ying couldn’t help feeling sleepy, so Old Lady Zhou told her to go back and sleep while they continued to wait here.
Unable to resist slumber any longer, Xu Ying returned to the back courtyard.
Just after she had gone to sleep, Qu Huimin and Bai Yushui arrived at the shop in the afternoon.
Once they stepped into the shop, their gazes immediately fixed on the Zhou family, and upon observing their attire, Qu Huimin frowned. Wasn’t it said that Xu Ying’s man was from the countryside? These people, judging by both their dress and demeanor, didn’t seem the part at all.
And that fluent Mandarin they spoke could not be that of just anybody.
But to sabotage Xu Ying’s image in front of her man’s relatives, Qu Huimin deliberately dragged Bai Yushui to sit right in front of the Zhou family.
Bai Yushui was still a bit frightened, shuddering at the thought of Huo Chen’s stern warning face.
“Huimin, maybe we shouldn’t,” she hadn’t even finished speaking when
Qu Huimin sat up straight and began to gossip, “Do you know Xu Ying from Economics Management?”
Bai Yushui’s mouth twitched, not wanting to cooperate anymore. Even if she wanted to slander Xu Ying, she needed to be smart about it. Asking whether they knew her or not was foolish when they all shared a dormitory. Wouldn’t the Zhou family bother to investigate?
Upon probing, they’d find out they were from the same dormitory, which would clearly indicate that their actions that day were intentional.
The Zhou family perked up their ears at the mention of Xu Ying’s name, eagerly waiting to hear what would come next.
Who knew Qu Huimin would stop talking.
Her face a mix of shock and anger, she stared out through the window.
A man and a woman were together outside, talking and laughing as if they were a couple.
“Huimin, why did you stop talking?” Bai Yushui asked, after she had just waved her hand in front of her.
Qu Huimin slapped her hand away and stood up, storming outside as she yelled, “Sun Youdi, Zhang Wu.”
“Hey, you haven’t paid yet!” the waiter quickly chased after them.
Bai Yushui ran out following Qu Huimin, and she, too, was shocked upon seeing the pair, but quickly realized this wasn’t her fight to intervene in and returned to the shop, pulling the waiter back with her.
Outside the store, Qu Huimin wore a look of catching infidels, “Sun Youdi, you shameless thing, how dare you seduce Zhang Wu, I’m going to kill you, you harlot!”
As she spoke, she raised her hand to slap Sun Youdi’s face.
Sun Youdi looked at Qu Huimin pitifully, as if she wanted to explain but didn’t know how, while Zhang Wu pulled her behind him and firmly grabbed Qu Huimin’s wrist, bellowing, “Enough!
Qu Huimin, you’re acting like a shrew, and also, I won’t be with you, so stop using those ugly words saying she seduced me.”
Qu Huimin was flung aside by Zhang Wu, nearly falling over from the force. Angry, she glared at Sun Youdi, her face questioning, “I treated you so well, regarded you as a sister, why would you be with Zhang Wu?”
Sun Youdi, her eyes brimming with tears, defiantly lifted her head, “I didn’t seduce him, and don’t say you took me as a good sister. You only hung around me to make yourself look better, sob sob sob~”
Saying this, she started crying.
It was Sunday, and in no time, more and more onlookers gathered.
“Then why are you with him, knowing that I like him?” Qu Huimin asked.
Sun Youdi glanced at Zhang Wu, her voice filled with indignation, “Just because you like him, does it mean no one else can be with him? Why are you being so domineering?
He’s a person, not an object, he shouldn’t be under your control.”
