Chapter 365: Chapter 366: The Zhou Family Comes Looking
“Shulan, this coat is nice too. You’re tall and well-proportioned, so paired with this long skirt and these boots, you’ll definitely look great,” Xu Ying said as she picked out an outfit for her.
The girl standing nearby just stared, wide-eyed. Although she had never combined clothes in such a way herself, as she envisioned the scene described by Xu Ying, the resulting image of the outfit immediately came to mind.
Zhang Shulan was so tempted by what Xu Ying said that she took the clothes and quickly headed to the dressing room. She was already pretty, but now, with the new clothes, she instantly became even more delicate and gentle.
“Ru Ru, what are you staring for? Hurry up and buy the clothes, then go see your cousin,” Third Son Zhou’s wife urged as she saw her daughter dawdling.
It was just the married daughter’s son–they didn’t know what was so great about him that made the elderly couple travel such a long distance and insist on bringing them along to find the child.
Third Zhou’s wife was fuming, extremely displeased with this nephew she had never met. The nerve of him, expecting his elders to visit him–such lack of manners.
Zhou Ru snapped back to reality and suddenly found the clothes in her hands unappealing. Without a second thought, she tossed them to the sales clerk: “I don’t want them anymore.”
The sales clerk’s face turned dark at those words: “If you don’t have the money, don’t act rich; don’t even think of competing with others.”
Zhou Ru’s face turned green: “Who said I don’t have money? Can’t I buy them if I want?”
With that, she steeled her heart and pulled out her long-saved savings.
Initially, she was willing to spend because she thought these were the best-looking clothes, but now, seeing someone with even better-looking clothes, she felt these weren’t worth the money.
Seeing this, Zhang Shulan’s previous anger vanished in an instant: “Yingying, this outfit is too pretty; how come you’re so good at matching clothes.
Some people just like to snatch what others have their eyes on–I don’t care for that coat anymore,” she said, casting a mocking look at Zhou Ru as the two of them left.
Zhou Ru was so angry that her whole body shook, and the clothes in her hand were crumpled out of shape.
Xu Ying bought a loose jacket, which was just right to hide her stomach, while Yang Hongxia, though not willing to buy clothes for herself, generously bought two outfits for each of her children.
By the time they finished shopping in the mall, it was already noon.
“What shall we eat for lunch?” asked Zhang Shulan.
“Fried chicken!” Chenguang said eagerly.
His classmates had been raving about the fried chicken at the newly opened Xu’s Fried Goods Store.
But he hadn’t tasted it even once.
Hearing this, Xu Ying’s face broke into a smile as she took Chenguang’s little hand and said, “Then let’s have fried chicken. Aunt Yingying will take you to eat.”
Wang Chenguang was instantly overjoyed at hearing this and whooped as he ran towards Xu’s Fried Goods Store.
Xu Ying wasn’t too keen on those oily foods, so she went to a shop nearby, bought a bowl of noodles, and brought it back.
The noodle purchase had delayed them a bit, and just as they reached the store, they saw someone they didn’t want to see.
Zhang Shulan saw the girl who had fought over the coat with her, her eyes filled with disbelief. Talk about a small world–running into an adversary even while just trying to eat.
Upon seeing them, Zhou Ru’s eyes practically rolled to the top of her head, particularly when she saw Yang Hongxia dressed plainly and Xu Ying, who looked attractive but dressed somewhat oddly, she was utterly disdainful: “Really, any Tom, Dick, or Harry is allowed in here.”
Her voice was low but Old Lady Zhou, standing next to her, heard it and scolded her granddaughter in a stern voice: “What a way to speak, all visitors are guests.”
Zhou Ru curled her lip, her face full of disdain.
Xu Ying felt Old Lady Zhou looked somewhat familiar the moment she saw her, but after a glance, she simply walked towards the back yourtyard.
Zhou Ru saw her enter the backyard, her face full of curiosity, craning her neck, wanting to follow.
But just as she stepped a foot out, she was stopped by someone; Lu Aimin looked at Zhou Ru and said, “That is our private area, outsiders are not allowed to enter.”
Upon hearing this, Zhou Ru immediately exploded, pointing at Xu Ying and demanded, “Then why can she go in?”
“She’s our boss, of course, she can go in,” Lu Aimin looked at her as if she were a fool.
Hearing this, Zhou Ru’s eyes instantly changed, “This store isn’t opened by my cousin; how could it belong to a woman?”
Lu Aimin looked at Zhou Ru with some doubt, having never heard about Huo Chen having any female cousin.
“What are you looking at? I am not a liar. My cousin is named Zhou Chen, no, I mean Huo Chen,” Zhou Ru said, almost dying from anger at Lu Aimin’s suspicious gaze, mistakenly stating her cousin’s name.
When Lu Aimin heard her mention Huo Chen’s name, he was slightly shocked and recalled that the Huo Family did indeed have a relative coming to recognize kin; he then realized that this person could really be Huo Chen’s relative.
But with the boss not being in the store at the moment, Lu Aimin could only go and call Xu Ying, “Yingying, one of Brother Chen’s relatives has come looking for him, and Brother Chen is not in the store right now.”
Xu Ying immediately understood his meaning, got up, and left the yard to the front hall.
When Zhou Ru saw Xu Ying, she was momentarily taken aback, then quickly regained her composure, her face extremely livid.
Old Lady Zhou looked at Xu Ying, her eyes instantly reddening, and with a face full of kindness, walked up to Xu Ying, held her hand tightly, and said slowly, “You must be Xu Ying.
Oh my, you’re so beautiful; Huo Chen is really lucky to have married you.”
Old Lady Zhou immediately let go of Xu Ying’s hand and mysteriously pulled out a key from her pocket and handed it to Xu Ying, “This was left for Yue Lian, that girl.
I never imagined something would happen to her, but luckily that lad Zhou Chen is still here, so I’ll give this to you instead.”
Xu Ying, taking the key, looked puzzled, thinking it was a house left for the daughter by the Zhou family; she had no idea it was an entire house full of wealth.
She tossed the key directly into the dimensional space.
“Thank you, grandmother,” Xu Ying hesitated, then called out.
Old Lady Zhou heard the word grandmother and cried with joy.
On the other hand, Old Man Zhou was standing there panting heavily through his nose and snorted coldly, “No thanks for grandfather?”
“Thank you, grandfather,” Xu Ying deliberately raised her voice, not realizing her man’s grandfather had the temper of a child and could be jealous.
Hearing his granddaughter-in-law’s call, Old Man Zhou was immediately overjoyed, responding several times with enthusiasm.
Third Zhou’s wife saw the key her mother-in-law took out and her eyes reddened with anger; just as she was about to speak up, her husband pulled her back, “If you dare to make my mom unhappy on this auspicious day, we’ll get a divorce.”
Upon hearing her husband’s words, a spark of anger flared in Third Zhou’s wife’s eyes, but it quickly disappeared, and she could only swallow her resentment.
Eldest Son Zhou, looking at Xu Ying was filled with joy, “Uncle Zhou came in haste this time and didn’t bring any nice gifts. Consider this bracelet as a meeting gift from me and your Aunt Zhou, take it.”
As Eldest Son Zhou finished speaking, Aunt Zhou hurriedly passed out the box.
Xu Ying looked at the bracelet in the box and her smile widened even further, it seemed she had stumbled upon a treasure; her husband’s family must be incredibly wealthy.
The gift was a jade bracelet and by the looks of it, definitely of top-grade quality.
“Thank you, Uncle Zhou, Aunt Zhou.”
