Xu Ying had just entered the restaurant when Huo Chen spotted her, his face all smiles, as he approached her, “Why are you out so early today? Are you hungry? I’ll cook for you.”

After saying this, Huo Chen rolled up his sleeves. The new chef in the restaurant was skilled, his cooking prowess unmatched, though it couldn’t compare to his wife’s culinary skills, it was certainly better than most people’s.

These days he had been learning to cook from the chef, thinking he could show off his skills in front of his own wife.

Xu Ying gave him a sour look, made a face at him, and glared at the female classmate sitting in front of the table, “The owner of this fried food store is quite handsome, and he’s also older.”

Hearing this, Huo Chen immediately smiled, grabbed her hand as if to claim his rights, and the two of them walked together to the backyard.

In the backyard, Huo Chen pinched his own face, “I said I smelled vinegar all the way here, it seems you’ve doused yourself with jealousy today.”

Huo Chen chuckled, walked over, and squatted in front of her legs, his face full of joy, not expecting that one day his wife would be jealous over him.

Xu Ying finally cooled down, not really angry, just a bit jealous that other girls were eyeing her man.

Sigh, Xu Ying sat at the table, rubbed her belly, feeling like her mind had become sensitive since she got pregnant, something she hadn’t paid attention to before.

Huo Chen busied himself in the kitchen for a good part of the day, and soon a steaming pot of hen soup was ready. He walked out holding the ceramic pot with both hands.

“Have it while it’s hot.” Huo Chen served a bowl of chicken soup in front of his wife, his expression begging for praise.

Xu Ying, surprised by the aroma of the chicken soup, took the spoon, gently blew on the soup, and took a sip, her face showing sheer enjoyment, “Delicious!”

Huo Chen, hearing this, was incredibly pleased. The two of them took turns sipping the soup.

Then, noise came from the front hall.

“Bai, our boss does not welcome you.” Lu Aimin’s voice fell just as Bai Yushui pushed him towards the yard gate.

His face was an ashen blue mixed with embarrassment. He had never seen such a shameless woman; Huo Chen was already married and was even about to become a father soon, yet this woman, a classmate of Xu Ying’s, still shamelessly pestered him.

For several consecutive days, she had wanted to see Huo Chen.

Lu Aimin, part-owner of this store, privately just acted as the manager.

Bai Yushui, deep down, also looked down on Lu Aimin. Even though he was older than Xu Ying’s man, he was just a subordinate, which was really embarrassing.

“I want to see your boss, I have business with him, you as a manager have no right to stop me,” Bai Yushui said as she pushed against Lu Aimin.

Lu Aimin, faced with the person barging into him, could neither block nor stop her and was directly forced to the yard gate.

“Oh~” Bai Yushui’s surprised voice just came out when she saw clearly who was sitting in the yard, her face suddenly turning green then white, a bit awkwardly looking at Xu Ying, “Xu Ying, you’re here!

I was wondering why I couldn’t find you!” she said unnaturally.

Lu Aimin snorted coldly, “When you came in just now, you kept saying you wanted to see our boss.

So what, now you want to see the boss’s wife!”

Xu Ying turned her head towards Bai Yushui, finding the situation ludicrous, “Bai Yushui, I don’t care whom you’re seeking or what you’re plotting, but let me tell you, I, Xu Ying, am not someone to be trifled with.

Don’t put on an act in front of me, Instead of aiming for a rich man, you’d better improve yourself first. You have nothing to offer, so how can you expect a good man to be interested in you?” She looked at Bai Yushui sarcastically.

If Bai Yushui had used some tricks to seduce a wealthy man who had never been married, aiming for a better life, Xu Ying might have not been so disgusted.

After all, one who doesn’t steal or rob, and gets things by their own means, is bearable, but a homewrecker who destroys families is utterly despicable.

Standing there, even though she was pregnant and showing, Xu Ying’s subtle elegance and her serene smile heightened Bai Yushui’s embarrassment to its peak.

She covered her face, her eyes brimming with tears, looking at Xu Ying with a face full of accusation, “Even if you are rich, you can’t insult me like this. I was just asking your boyfriend about a job matter.

How can you be so narcissistic, to humiliate people like this?” Bai Yushui said, looking pitifully at Huo Chen, hoping he would rebuke Xu Ying for her jealousy.

Xu Ying’s face was stern, not expecting Bai Yushui to have such a thick skin.

On the side, Huo Chen pulled Xu Ying into his arms and warned Bai Yushui, “If you have no such intentions, it’s best to keep it that way. As for the job you mentioned, our store isn’t hiring anymore.

You don’t need to come looking for me every day. If you’re really short on money, you could ask that man from your village for some; I think he’d be quite willing to give it to you.”

Bai Yushui’s face went from embarrassed anger to pale disbelief, she looked at Huo Chen incredulously, “What are you talking about, what man, I’ve never been married.”

Huo Chen’s expression was cold, “You went to the countryside in 197*, and less than a year later, you married the captain’s son from your village and had a son, who is three years old this year.

You could take the college entrance exam, all thanks to your husband’s help. Sometimes, one should not be ungrateful, lest you face retribution.”

Bai Yushui, shocked that he knew so much, felt a mix of fear and anger. Since he knew all along, why didn’t he say it earlier? Mentioning it now in front of Xu Ying, was clearly meant to humiliate her.

She glared at Huo Chen, “We are already divorced. The child is with her; I’m single now.”

After saying that, she turned angrily and left.

Yang Hongxia and Zhang Shulan had just come to find Xu Ying, standing agape after overhearing this explosive news, shocked beyond words.

When Bai Yushui ran out, she bumped right into them, her heart instantly turning frigid.

“Yang Hongxia, Zhang Shulan, did you both hear all that?”

Why are you here too, to see Xu Ying or to inquire about a job?”

Bai Yushui, hiding her true emotions, tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and forced a laugh, “Well, I am running low on living expenses, just thought to ask about the job.”

Yang Hongxia replied with a faint smile, “Then I shall go find Xu Ying.”

Bai Yushui nodded and quickly ran off.

Zhang Shulan, puzzled, said to Yang Hongxia, “We both clearly heard everything, why not just tell her the truth?”

Yang Hongxia, looking at her innocently naive demeanor, truly envied it; to raise such a daughter, the family must have pampered her considerably, hence her lack of any ulterior motives.

Initially, she thought Zhang Shulan was a cold beauty, but upon closer interaction, found her to be quite clueless and foolish.
