- Chapter 346 - Chapter 346 Chapter 347 Married
Chapter 346: Chapter 347: Married Chapter 346: Chapter 347: Married Xujia Village was a scene of unbridled jubilation, and Granny Huo’s smile never left her lips. She was advanced in age, so she didn’t join Huo Chen to pick up the bride.
True to expectations, Huo Chen had brought a photographer to document the entire event.
Early in the morning, Xu Ying had applied a delicate makeup look by herself and then had a hairstylist style her hair before she dressed in her prepared wedding attire and stepped out of the house to the accompaniment outside.
“Here comes the bride.”
Huo Chen stood among the crowd, his face alight with a smile, watching Xu Ying.
Receiving Xu Ying from Mr. Xu’s back, his smile grew even brighter. Mrs. Xu watched her daughter being carried away, unable to hold back her tears.
Mr. Xu cast a cautionary look at Huo Chen, “Be good to my daughter.”
Huo Chen assured, “I will always be good to her.” Having said that, he hoisted Xu Ying onto his back and headed toward his house.
Xu Ying wrapped her arms around Huo Chen’s neck, her little feet hooked over his stride, and the breath from her nose tickled his neck so much that he couldn’t help but think about how she would be his tonight, causing his eyes to shine astonishingly bright.
As Huo Chen had gone to wed, Huo Hanjie had sneakily dashed into the Huo Family’s courtyard and upon seeing Granny Huo, he said with a smile, “Mom, I remember there was a jade pendant when Huo Chen got married before, wasn’t there?”
On hearing her son’s words, Granny Huo’s face was a picture of defensiveness as she immediately denied, “No, why are you asking about that?”
Huo Hanjie’s eyes squinted as he smiled, “Mom, it’s about time, why won’t you admit it.
Huo Chen’s biological parents have been found, you should hurry and bring out the Jade Pendant.”
Granny Huo felt a tightness in her heart and with a cunning glance, she stared at her son, looking for inconsistencies in his expression.
Huo Hanjie was not the slightest bit anxious, his words were undeniably true, “Mom, don’t lie to me, the Jade Pendant is inscribed with the character for Xiao Zhou, isn’t it? The parents have come to acknowledge him through the Jade Pendant. And who would have thought, Huo Chen turned out to be something special; his family is from the big city, quite wealthy indeed.”
Granny Huo’s eyes dimmed a bit. She had thought about the day she’d have to part with her grandson, and now that the day had actually come, she truly felt a bit sorrowful.
She spoke sternly to her son, “Let’s talk about this after Huo Chen’s wedding is over.”
Huo Hanjie read the old woman’s expression and confirmed it was true. He nodded his head, in no hurry.
Despite not knowing why that family had changed their minds about acknowledging the child, it didn’t matter whether they did or not, as long as they paid him compensation.
With the music growing louder and the laughter of children carrying through the air, Granny Huo excitedly stood up.
The villagers followed suit and took their seats; Xu Qingqing came along with Sun Yiliang–after all, the two of them were married as well and wouldn’t want to miss out.
At the banquet, people from Xujia Village were utterly shocked. They always thought that the wedding banquet prepared by Mr. Xu’s family was abundant, but they never expected the feast Huo Chen prepared today to be equally lavish.
There was no shortage of chicken, duck, or fish; and moreover, the yard had an array of seafood including enormous crabs and prawns.
“I’ve heard these big crabs are pricey, freshly caught from the sea. We don’t have them around here at all. Huo Chen has really made something of himself. I heard he works at our county’s machinery factory and has also talked about a collaboration with the food factory director, talking about an exclusive distribution deal, even established his own small company, though I’m not sure if it’s true or not.”
“It’s true, my Aimin works with Huo Chen, and that young man even set up a dedicated delivery channel with the transport team. I don’t quite understand how it works, but it seems to make good money,” Mrs. Lu said with a touch of pride.
Her second son, whom she never had high hopes for, had finally achieved something noteworthy.
Xu Qingqing had been eavesdropping on the conversation about Huo Chen right from the start.
When she heard about Huo Chen and the others establishing a company, her mindset exploded. She stood up, pointing an accusing finger, “Huo Chen is engaging in profiteering, he could get arrested for this.”
As soon as Xu Qingqing’s words came out, the faces of the people eating in the courtyard changed drastically, and no one dared to utter another word.
Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu both had gloomy faces, glaring at Xu Qingqing.
Granny Huo looked worried.
Just as Huo Chen, holding Xu Ying’s hand, was about to enter the bridal chamber, he heard these words. His face became frosty, instantly cold, his brows tightly furrowed, and his eyes revealing a fury that seemed capable of setting the surrounding air ablaze.
His sharp gaze swept over Xu Qingqing.
Xu Qingqing, frightened, shrank her neck, but still insisted, “This is simply profiteering. Even though the new policy has changed, running a private enterprise is still illegal.”
“On such a good day, I don’t wish to lay a hand on you, but you’d better watch your mouth. My business has all been approved by the leaders.
If you continue to make a scene with your nonsense, you’re not welcome at our celebration,” Huo Chen said coldly.
Xu Ying tugged at his hand, signaling him not to get angry.
Gu Fuzhu also stood up at that moment: “What Huo Chen said is right, his business has been established after being jointly reviewed by my father and several leaders.
If you don’t understand, then don’t talk nonsense.”
Xu Qingqing felt extremely aggrieved, tears streaming down the corners of her eyes. How could it not be illegal?
Seeing her like this, Gu Fuzhu felt even more disdain: “You should spend more time following the news. The policy has already changed. The country has liberated and developed the productive forces, all to make the people rich.
And Huo Chen is someone who is brave, wise, and daring. What he does is within the rules.”
Xu Qingqing bit her lip hard; this meant that Huo Chen was now promising.
He’s established his own business, and now he’s no worse than the city folks.
No wonder Xu Ying is willing to marry him. She’s too calculating.
Sun Yiliang wanted to bury his head in his hands, feeling awkward. He pulled at Xu Qingqing, “Could you please stop making a scene and embarrassing us?”
Xu Qingqing got angry: “Look at Huo Chen, he’s holding a lavish wedding banquet and even hired a professional photographer. And you–what do I have by following you? It’d be better not to get married at all.”
Sun Yiliang also became annoyed: “We could also get divorced if you think I’m happy to be married to you.”
After saying that, he left in anger.
Xu Qingqing didn’t expect him to show so little respect for her in front of everyone. As she saw the mocking looks, she stomped her foot in anger, wanting to chase after him, but then she looked at the delicious food on the table and her craving returned, so she sat down to eat instead.
The wedding feast did not end until three in the afternoon, by which time everybody had finally dispersed.
Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu helped clean up for a while before they also went home.
Huo Chen had been made to drink a lot, but thankfully Wu Qingsong was there to block quite a few drinks for him.
He staggered into the house, reeking of alcohol.
Xu Ying saw him drunkenly stumble in, her brow furrowed in concern. She quickly stood up and walked over to him, wanting to support him. As she reached out her delicate hand, the man pulled her abruptly into his arms.
The man’s low voice gently called out, “Wife, you’re so beautiful!”
Tiny kisses fell slowly on her forehead. One hand held her slender waist, lifting her straight onto the bed.
He carefully laid Xu Ying on the bed. Xu Ying’s face turned red with nervousness, “It’s not even dark yet!”
