Chapter 40: Have Lunch Together

A smile spread across Huston’s face, and he winked at Nina. “Part-time medical research professor. As I said, we’re fated.”
Nina finally understood. No wonder Huston had a strange look on his face and said that they were fated when she had told him that she was from LG University yesterday.
“So, your name is Huston?” He had initially told her that his name was Hugh.
Huston pulled a chair over. “Hugh is just an alias I use outside. Well, you didn’t tell me who you really were either. You made me mistake you for an undergraduate at LG University. So we’re even, aren’t we?”
“I am indeed a university student at LG University,” said Nina flatly.
Huston nodded in agreement. “Studying for a Ph.D. in medical school.”
He smiled. “So you’re my assistant from today onward?”
“Yes, Professor.” Nina narrowed her eyes, emphasizing the word “Professor”.
Huston grinned and took a sip of water. “You know, Algernon is really like a mind reader. He always knows what I want.”
Nina ignored the obvious teasing and looked at him in confusion. “I don’t understand. Why are you a professor here?”
Huston replied, “Medicine is my profession. I just had no choice but to participate in some of the family business when I returned. This atavism experiment is a joint project funded by society and the LG General Hospital. I’ve invested in it, so I’m a core member of the project.
“As for how I became a professor, I did a relatively successful medical project a few years ago. Hence, this university awarded me the title of an Honorary Professor. I’m a professor who is specially appointed, the type with no teaching responsibilities.”
His tone was relaxed and casual, and he spoke as if this was really just a small achievement that was not worth mentioning.
Huston meticulously briefed Nina on the details of her task.
“Let’s have lunch together,” he said after concluding his briefing.
Nina was sitting in her chair and drinking water from a cup in her hands. Her eyes appeared indifferent, and she seemed to have no intention to respond.
Huston added, “I mainly want to know more about your expertise.”
Nina set down her cup of water. “I have time in the morning.”
“I don’t have time in the morning,” said Huston. “I only have time in the afternoon.”
With that, he gathered his belongings and left the laboratory.
At noon, Klein drove to the university and was waiting at the school’s entrance. His jaw nearly dropped when he saw Huston walking out with Nina.
He widened his eyes, stared at the two people walking over from afar, and muttered to himself, “Why are they together again?”
Nina got in the car and sat in the backseat.
Huston went around to the other side and sat in the backseat, too.
They chose a lavish restaurant near Boston Port for lunch. The seat was near the window on the first floor of the restaurant.
It seemed like there was a prior reservation at the restaurant. Huston and Klein were likely regular customers because the restaurant manager personally received them and brought them to their seats.
The manager served them a bottle of red wine after they were seated. “This is what you reserved at your last visit. Would you like me to open it now?”
Klein casually waved his hand, indicating that he could open it.
Huston asked Nina with his eyes.
Nina had always enjoyed drinking, so she naturally nodded.
As the manager poured the wine, he could not help but size up Nina.
Klein’s eyelids twitched, and he remarked in a seemingly unintentional manner, “This is a 1961 Latour from Bordeaux.”
Nina took a sip. “Not bad.”
Klein’s eyelids twitched again. What did she mean by not bad? A box of this wine had once been auctioned off in Hong Kong for 130,000 pounds.
He felt that giving Nina such wine was a waste of good stuff.
But who asked Huston to take a fancy to this young lady? As long as it was someone he approved of, he would not feel any heartache, no matter how expensive it might be.
Klein’s heart ached for him.
At that moment, Nina heard a familiar voice from behind. “You don’t have a way either? Alright, I’ll think of a solution for the issues regarding the port myself.”
Nina turned to see Boris sitting not far behind her.
