Chapter 35: Hugh’s Friend

In that brief moment when Hiram rushed toward Nina, she immediately aimed the pistol in her right hand in his direction and pulled the trigger.
Jonathan tried to seize the opportunity and react, but Nina was too fast for him. The black muzzle was pointed at his head again.
Not only was Jonathan unable to react in time, but his bodyguards and the group of men in black, who were pointing their guns at Nina, also could not react.
If someone had pulled the trigger the instant Nina’s gun turned away from Jonathan and shot Hiram, Jonathan could have escaped from her.

“Can I leave now?” Nina asked Jonathan, squinting her eyes.
Jonathan’s eyes snapped away from Hiram’s bleeding thigh. He found it hard to believe that the girl had pulled the trigger without batting an eyelid.
She didn’t even turn her head.
Was she not afraid that the bullet would hit Hiram in the head? Or in the heart? Was she not afraid that she could have shot him dead right away?
Or was she not worried at all? Was she not worried about her marksmanship or about killing Hiram?
Jonathan didn’t know.
However, he knew that if he did not agree to Nina’s request, she would definitely shoot him in the head!
This girl was crazy!
“Okay!” Jonathan gritted his teeth and squeezed out the words. “I’ll send you out.”
He was willing to let them go, but he would definitely have his revenge.
Held at gunpoint, Jonathan stood up and walked toward the door. Cathy, Beth, and Eddie followed behind Nina. Julia also scrambled to her feet and followed.
Seeing that no one was stopping Julia, Marion and the others quickly followed Nina.
Everyone heaved a sigh of relief when they stepped out of the booth. Marion led the way and trotted down the stairs. The crowd dispersed.
Instead, Nina and the others were left behind.
Just as Nina turned the corner of the corridor, she came face to face with a man walking briskly toward her. He had short black hair, a thin figure, and was wearing a rather fashionable light blue shirt.
He stopped when he passed by and asked tentatively, “Nina Jowett?”
Nina also stopped and studied the man.
She had never met him.
“I am.”
The man’s eyes widened in surprise. “You’re Nina? Hey, I’m Klein! Klein Meredith. I heard that you and your friends got into some trouble. I’m here to help you settle it.”
Nina didn’t understand what he meant.
Klein grinned. “I’m Hugh’s friend, a good friend.”
Nina froze.
Hugh?
The man who had wrecked the limited edition sports car on the mountainous road in Hommes that day?
Nina pursed her lips and said nothing.
Beth tugged on Nina’s sleeve gently, looking worried.
Nina shook her head and said, “You guys can go back first. I might have run into a friend.”
Eddie shook her hand and said, “Thank you, Nina.” With that, he quickly left with Beth.
Cathy thought for a moment and followed them. She wanted to say something to Nina, but Jonathan and his men surrounded them. It was clearly not the time to talk.
She was desperate to leave this place quickly.
After they left…
Klein stared at the gun in Nina’s hand and smiled playfully. “It looks like you’ve already taken care of it yourself…”
Jonathan suddenly whispered hesitantly, “Meredith? Are you Mr. Meredith of the Drummond family?”
Klein was clearly not even 30 years old, but Jonathan’s tone was abnormally respectful.
The Drummonds? Nina narrowed her eyes.
The Drummonds were Jonathan’s backers and one of the biggest mafia families in America. Hiram’s cousin was a core figure of the family.
This was how Hiram had acquired the lucrative job of calculating and collecting dividends with Jonathan.
Nina put the pistol away.
Klein came at the right time. He could help her resolve this problem. Otherwise, she would have to clean up the mess herself to prevent Jonathan’s subsequent revenge.
She didn’t need Klein to do anything. His status was enough.
