Chapter 29: Let’s Get Married

“What is going on?” Su Yuntang frowned.

“I heard them saying something about the police and a club…” The maid answered hesitantly.

Jiang Yi turned to Su Wanwan and asked, “Could it be because of the incident that was reported in the newspaper?”

“That’s impossible!” Su Wanwan retorted instantly, “It has only been three days since I came back to China, and it was just a photo. Who could have possibly known that I’m Deputy Director Su’s daughter?”

The Deputy Director Su in question glared at Su Wanwan.

“Hurry up and chase all those reporters away!” Su Xueqin said impatiently. After such a long and stressful day, he was feeling exhausted since he had only just recovered.

Jiang Yi quickly called for a maid to push the old man back to his room so that he could rest.

The living room was silent, and they could hear the noise outside the house getting louder and louder.

Very soon, the maid returned, looking miserable. “What should I do? The reporters refuse to leave!”

Su Yuntang felt a headache coming on.

The director of the Radio and Television Administration was going to retire at the end of the year, so there was a high possibility that he would get promoted since he was currently the deputy director. However, if a scandal about his daughter fooling around with a man emerged at this juncture, even if it was not true, it would certainly affect his image and he might not get that promotion.

After thinking about it, Su Yuntang fixed his gaze on Huo Jingshen and said, “Young Master Huo, you are the heir of the Huo family. Since this matter concerns Wanwan’s reputation, and since you are talking about marriage, I hope that you will be able to clarify this matter to the reporters on our behalf.”

Huo Jingshen’s expression remained unchanged.

Su Yuntang’s request was actually completely reasonable since the whole issue was just a misunderstanding, and it would be convincing if Huo Jingshen himself were to clarify it in person.

However, Huo Jingshen was clearly refusing to agree to Su Yuntang’s request.

Instead, he tilted his head slightly to look at Su Wanwan, giving everyone there the feeling that he was a boyfriend seeking his girlfriend’s opinion.

Su Wanwan, however, did not have such a romantic notion. She simply stared at Su Yuntang coldly, her tone mocking as she sneered, “So it seems that the Su family actually has to depend on an outsider to clarify the truth and avoid tarnishing their name.”

“If it weren’t for you staying out all night and getting photographed going to such places, would this issue even exist?” Su Yuntang replied calmly, “If you had paid more attention to your own identity, you would not have gotten involved in this kind of scandal and embarrassed me!”

Su Wanwan burst out laughing. For the sake of his own so-called image and reputation, her father would rather drag an outsider in to explain the situation instead of explaining things on behalf of his own daughter.

It was really ridiculous.

She shouldn’t have cooperated with Huo Jingshen to put on such an elaborate act just now. She should have just waited for the reporters to come and declare that everything published in the newspaper was true!

Wouldn’t her father have been enraged then?

“You can still laugh at a time like this?” Su Yuntang roared. He despised Su Wanwan’s carefree attitude the most. It was as though she could not be bothered about anyone other than Su Xueqin!

Su Yuntang finally snarled, “I should not have allowed an illegitimate child like you to live back then! I want you to go back to M Country tomorrow! Don’t ever come back here again!”

Su Wanwan looked at him, her pent-up anger and resentment overwhelming her. She raised her head and sighed, saying, “What can you do if I don’t want to go back to M Country? Also, it seems like an illegitimate child like me is going to marry a better man compared to your precious daughter!”

Whether it was appearance, wealth, or background, Xing Yuyun could not possibly compare to Huo Jingshen.

Under jealous, shocked, and resentful gazes, Su Wanwan reached out and grabbed Huo Jingshen’s arm. She smiled at him brightly as she said determinedly, “I accept your proposal. Let’s get married!”

Huo Jingshen’s lips curved into a triumphant smile. “Alright.”
