Chapter 999: Chapter 999: A Fist Hits the Cotton
Chi Enen calmly raised an eyebrow, picked up the teacup she had just set down, and spoke with composure, “Whether it’s suitable or not actually depends on who is drinking this tea. Those who understand tea believe it must be paired with spring water and Great Red Robe. For those who don’t, all tea tastes the same, no noticeable difference. What kind of water matches which type of tea is just an expectation imposed by the brewer on the tea itself–in reality, tea doesn’t have such requirements.”
Old Master Li narrowed his eyes. Chi Enen’s seemingly simple few words gracefully deflected and returned his statement back to him.
An expectation imposed by the brewer on the tea itself?
Heh, interesting.
“Miss Chi, how long do you plan to stay here?” Old Master Li cut straight to the chase, clearly telling her to leave.
The Old Butler silently broke into a cold sweat for Chi Enen.
Chi Enen did not show the slightest trace of surprise, shock, or hesitation. Even at this moment, she dared to meet Old Master Li’s gaze directly, “Grandfather, how long would you like me to stay here?”
Old Master Li hadn’t expected her to maintain her composure in such a situation, returning his sharp and awkward question without a hint of deference. A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes before he replied, “I didn’t prepare a guest room for you.”
By now it was already afternoon; not preparing a guest room essentially meant she should leave immediately?
Chi Enen spoke calmly, “No need to trouble yourself. Li Beijue and I can squeeze in together.”
Her response left not only Old Master Li but also the Old Butler stunned for a moment.
Old Master Jue was clearly chasing her away. Did Miss Chi really not catch on?
Of course Chi Enen caught on, but since she came, she wasn’t about to leave Li Beijue behind–not without standing by his side. Her purpose in coming was to face this together with Li Beijue, to share the burden. Ideally, she wanted to change Grandfather’s perception of her.
She hadn’t accomplished any of that yet. How could she retreat so easily?
Old Master Li’s words were indeed designed to make things difficult, but she had been a radio host once, and she had encountered far tougher and more embarrassing questions. Learning how to deflect challenges with grace was a fundamental skill for any radio host.
She wasn’t about to back down over a few sentences or problems!
“I heard Grandfather is fond of jade. I’ve been collecting it for a while myself. I came in such a hurry this time that I didn’t bring anything suitable, but I’ll have some sent over another day.” Smoothly redirecting the conversation, she took another sip of the Great Red Robe and said, “As expected, Great Red Robe brewed with spring water tastes wonderful.”
Her eyebrows relaxed as she flashed a playful smile, “However, I think it might be interesting to try brewing it with underground water now and then. It might offer a surprisingly different flavor. After all, you’ll never know if you like something until you give it a try, right?”
Chi Enen finished speaking, stood up, and gracefully bowed, “Thank you for inviting me to tea, Grandfather. Li Beijue is still on an IV drip. I’m a bit worried about him being alone, so I’ll head back to him now.”
Old Master Li felt as though he had just delivered a heavy punch only for it to land softly into cotton. He looked at Chi Enen deeply, as though he were seeing her for the first time. His sharp eyes narrowed slightly, “Mm, go ahead.”
Chi Enen pretended to misunderstand, skillfully deflecting his attempt to chase her away. He couldn’t very well send bodyguards in to forcibly drag her out.
Since she feigned not understanding, this time, he had no choice but to let it go.
It appeared he would need to come up with a new strategy to get her to leave.
