“Yes. I wanted to go upstairs and call you, but Madam did not allow me to do so.” After dinner, Aunt Xu even left some food for her. However, after they were discovered by Chen Peifang, everything was thrown into the rubbish bin!

Listening to Aunt Xu’s words, Gu Qiangwei clenched her fists that were hanging loosely by her side.

This Chen Peifang is pushing it too far!

“Do you know the password to the door then?”

“I’ll cook for you again,” said Aunt Xu, looking at her. She then turned around and entered the kitchen.

Gu Qiangwei was really hungry. After all, she had been chased for a long time in the afternoon and had expended all her energy!

Aunt Xu was afraid that she would be too hungry, so she cooked up a few simple dishes in twenty minutes. Gu Qiangwei ate and was very satisfied!

After dinner, it was already past 8 PM, so Gu Qiangwei went upstairs and took a bath. She then read a book all the way until 10 PM before she felt a sense of drowsiness attack her.

Placing her book down, she was about to sleep when she suddenly remembered something and sat up forcefully!

Something was weird. She had already come home for a long time, yet why hadn’t she seen Meng Qi yet?

Upon that thought, Gu Qiangwei’s drowsiness was immediately gone. She threw her blanket aside and got off the bed to look for Meng Qi.

Meng Qi was a golden retriever that she picked up from the streets in the past. It had accompanied her for two years!

“Meng Qi?”

She went downstairs and walked to Meng Qi’s little house. She saw it laying there, looking like it did not have any energy.

Is it sick?

She reached her hand out to touch Meng Qi’s body, but it only whimpered softly at her before laying back down again.

“What’s wrong with you?” For the past two years, she had never seen Meng Qi in such a state before.

They had a checkup done every month, and it had always been healthy. Why did it suddenly become like this?

It is already past 10 PM; the veterinary hospital must be closed.

“Meng Qi, I’ll bring you to the doctor tomorrow.” As she was still worried about it, she carried Meng Qi’s large body with her when she stood up.

“Tonight, you will sleep with me!”

Although it was a little heavy, Gu Qiangwei could not bear to leave the sickly Meng Qi to sleep alone downstairs.

When she reached the bedroom, Gu Qiangwei laid out a thin blanket on the sofa before placing Meng Qi on it. “Goodnight!”

She laid onto her bed again and turned off the lights in the bedroom, only leaving a small bedside lamp on. Ever since her mother left, she developed a habit of only being able to sleep if the lights were on.

As she drowsily went to sleep, Gu Qiangwei suddenly heard the sound of her doorknob turning. The sound also startled and woke Meng Qi, who was sleeping on the sofa. It got up forcefully and glared ferociously at the door.

In the next second, Gu Qiangwei lifted her head in the dim light and saw the door being pushed open suddenly.

“Who is it?!”

Although she was in her own home, it was in the middle of the night. Gu Qiangwei raised her guard! She stared directly at the dark shadow walking in.

Afterward, a strong whiff of alcohol engulfed her nose.

Under the light, the dark shadow became more and more familiar until it was right in front of her bed.

“Gu Shijie?!”

On the bed, Gu Qiangwei got up in shock; however, she did not have time to react before Gu Shijie suddenly tilted forward and pressed her entire body beneath him!

“What are you doing?! Let go of me!”
