Chapter 60: Doctor He Makes a Promise to Xixi

Just as He Yan said, Xu Rui was a public figure, and she was one of the most popular ones, too. She had people looking at her everywhere.

The whole wedding thing may have been suppressed somewhat by the Nan family, but people knew about it. About a day later, the headlines were all about how Xu Rui interrupted the marriage, going crazy after losing her lover, or about how Xu Rui angered a love rival from a powerful house, falling from grace, acting in the real world. Some even wrote about how her love rival had a mafia background.

They were all exaggerating, but that was what the media did, so no one knew if Xu Rui had gone crazy.

The heat was on, however, and reporters who came late wanted a slice of the pie as well. Wen Xi couldn’t leave the house for the last couple of days, in case she’d bump into the media and become infamous.

She had to go to the film school today, though, so she had to leave the house.

After changing, her dad’s driver was waiting outside to fetch her.

Her grandma, still worried, walked her to the gate. “What if you bump into that bastard again? He didn’t look like he’d given up!”

Grandpa Wen walked ver and looked at the driver, solemnly. “Do you know kung fu?”

The driver froze but shook his head. “No, I’m just a driver…”

Wen Xi couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t worry, grandpa, what’s he going to do in the daytime? Kidnap me?”

“Ha, who knows?” The old man hmphed. “Which of the Nan men have soft hearts? When you said you were going to marry into that house, I didn’t want to hurt you, and that’s why I said yes, but in the end, I don’t like the kid at all! Just his looks alone show some kind of evilness, it’s uncomfortable! Alright, you wait for a second, I’ll get you that gun.”

Wen Xi froze. “No need, grandpa, I don’t know how to use guns! Plus, isn’t it unloaded?”

She tried persuading him softly, but he didn’t buy it. “You can scare him off even without bullets! Wait here, I’ll get you the gun.”

Just as he was about to run back, a large honk sounded outside. They all turned around to see a black car parked there. Inside was He Yan.

“Ah, it’s Doctor He.” Grandma Wen looked out.

Wen Xi looked out as well. What was He Yan stopping there for? Her driver wasn’t blocking the road or anything.

She still didn’t understand when her grandma ran over, to talk with He Yan.

A while later, she waved to her. “Come over, Xixi.”

Xixi walked over with her bag. “Doctor He’s going to the hospital right now, it’s on the way with your school! He’ll drive you.”

“Ah? No need, I have a car.” Wen Xi pointed behind her.

Grandma Wen frowned. “This car is safer!”

With that, Grandpa Wen walked out with the gun, still talking. “The gun’s here, Xixi, put this in your pocket. Pull it out if that bastard shows himself, and- Hm? The He boy?”

The old man saw the handsome face on He Yan right when he raised his head. He stopped in his tracks.

He Yan nodded with a polite smile.

Grandma Wen patted the gun down. “No need, Doctor He promised to drive Xixi, didn’t you, Doctor He?”

He Yan nodded. “It’s in the same direction.”

Grandpa Wen put the gun away, pushing his granddaughter over. “What are you waiting for then, get in the car.”

“Grandpa…”

With that, he closed the door and turned to He Yan. “I’ll leave my granddaughter in your hands, get her back home safe!”

Wen Xi was as awkward as she could be. “Grandpa, I…”

“Be careful at school! Bye-bye.”

Grandpa pulled his partner away after that, walking two steps away before Guosheng’s driver looked at them. “Then, I- I…”

“You… you… you… You’re not strong enough!”

The tall, strong driver sulked.

Grandma Wen smiled. “Doctor He grew up in a military area, he’s been training constantly. Look at that strong body of his! I’m relieved.”

Grandpa Wen laughed in agreement.
