Qin Yinan didn’t pay attention to the conversation after that; his mind was clouded by that single sentence.

Even though he was unfamiliar with Shanghai, he did hear once or twice about Lan Ting Garden before. It was the nation’s famed silk-stocking district. Its residences were all rich and famous. Qin Yinan didn’t dare to consider the possibility further. He stayed at the table for a while longer before picking up his coat to leave the room.

Qin Yinan walked to the parking lot but didn’t hurry to get into his car. He leaned against the car door and pulled out his cigarettes. He finished several cigarettes before finally pulling the door open to get in.

He started the engine and drove for a small distance before searching his phone to give his secretary a call. The conference was on a Wednesday, but Qin Yinan arrived in Shanghai on Monday.

Even though the authenticity of the conversation at the table was suspect at best, after checking into the hotel that he booked, he drove the car that was arranged to Lan Ting Garden.

The security around Lan Ting Garden was tight. Qin Yinan wasn’t a resident and wasn’t invited by any of the residents, so he parked his car right at the gate to Lan Ting Garden.

He waited for eight hours straight until midnight. Many cars came in and out of Lan Ting Garden, but there was no sign of Cheng Qingchong.

He returned to his hotel to take a warm bath. Lying in bed, he let his mind wander before falling asleep. Early the next morning, Qin Yinan woke up, and similar to yesterday, the first thing he did was drive to Lan Ting Garden.

This time he waited for seven hours. At around 4 pm, just as Qin Yinan thought it was all merely a rumor, he spotted someone that looked like Cheng Qingchong at the gate.

Qin Yinan’s feeling was conflicting. He wanted to see Cheng Qingchong, but at the same time, he was worried that Cheng Qingchong would show herself at this residential area.

But oftentimes, the more one fear something would happen, the greater the chance of it happening.

At around 6 pm, a Maserati passed through the gate. It slowed at the corner, just brushing past Qin Yinan’s car. At the time, he was smoking a cigarette, so his window was open. When he turned to flick the cigarette butt out, he glanced at the car that was passing him, and through the window, he saw the profile that he couldn’t have been more familiar with.

The car left his sight in just a few seconds. However, those few seconds were more than enough for Qin Yinan to confirm that it was indeed the Cheng Qingchong that he had been thinking about every day for the past two months.
