Chapter 948: Chapter 7: The Python in the Wetlands Chapter 948: Chapter 7: The Python in the Wetlands Bi Fang, wielding a machete, led the way at the front. In the movies, this should have been the captain’s job, but now it had become his, although there wasn’t much difference.
Ah-Quan and Bill were on either side of Bi Fang, forming a triangle, carving out a path with their machetes, making it much easier for the people following behind.
Different from other forests, the Borneo rainforest’s vegetation was so dense that if you didn’t chop down the plants, you couldn’t get through, and your body would end up covered in cuts or bitten by poisonous insects hanging from the branches above.
“Everyone, pay attention to the rope on your bodies, don’t cut it. If you encounter danger, you can pull on that live rope to quickly free yourself.”
The jungle terrain was complex, one could walk around a tree and find their companion had disappeared, so for safety, Bi Fang tied a rope around everyone and connected them, with easily detachable knots in case of danger.
It was worth noting that Gang Zi, who initially wouldn’t go near Bi Fang, had suddenly become fond of him after landing and stayed on his shoulder, unwilling to leave.
Gordon complained, “Doing this feels like stepping on a sewing machine in a sauna room.”
The atmosphere creator, Boris, wasn’t about to be outdone: “Yeah, I might not die of a heatstroke, but I will definitely end up with a firm and lifted butt.”
Everyone was dripping with sweat.
At that moment, the medic, Douglas, stepped forward and looked at Bill: “How about you give the machete to me, let me give it a try.”
Just as Bill was also getting tired, he handed it over directly: “Be my guest.”
Bi Fang asked, “Have you ever used a machete to walk through such a path before?”
Douglas shook his head.
“Then you’d better be careful. On a previous trip to Belize in Central America, I met a guy who claimed he had extensive jungle exploration experience. As soon as we entered the jungle, he was the one who ran the fastest. Guess what happened after just a few hours?”
“What?”
“He swung his big machete too hard, hit a branch but didn’t cut through it, the branch snapped back, slicing him from his lips all the way to his jaw.”
Bi Fang drew a line with his index finger from his lips down to his jawbone, making Douglas’s eyelids twitch.
As a medic, he naturally knew how dangerous such an injury could be, especially in the hot and humid environment of the rainforest.
“So remember, keep the back of the blade toward yourself, and don’t swing the machete in your direction.”
“Make sure there’s no one around you, swing the knife in short motions about a step ahead of your body, don’t swing too fast, and don’t try to extend your arm to chop anything.”
Bi Fang gave him a brief lesson, not trying to persuade Douglas otherwise.
The medic wanted to take the machete not because of team spirit, but because he wanted to show off in front of the blonde beauty, Sam.
Men in heat are the hardest to deal with. They won’t miss any chance to showcase their charm, and it’s tough to dissuade them, so Bi Fang could only let him learn the hard way.
Fortunately, nothing had happened in the movie, and after Bi Fang joined, nothing happened to the team either. They quickly arrived at the edge of a swamp.
Everyone was reluctant to enter.
“Can we go around it?”
Bill said, “That would mean an extra day’s journey.”
Bi Fang nodded as well; he had memorized all the maps before setting off and knew Bill was right.
Moreover, a swamp, following the plot, and with water up to the waist, was suited for Bi Fang’s capabilities.
Coming to the edge of the swamp, Bi Fang was the first to enter the water, followed by Bill and Ah-Quan.
But the several people behind hesitated. They didn’t think much of it from up high, but faced with the real situation, they started to have second thoughts.
The scene of Bi Fang being attacked underwater was still fresh in their minds. Although pythons were mostly underwater, the hint of their massive forms still left a profound psychological shadow on everyone.
If it hadn’t been Bi Fang at the very back, any other person would have probably already died underwater.
The water here is shallow, could there also be a terrifying python?
Thinking this, everyone present got goosebumps.
The three under the water exchanged smiles.
Ah-Quan said, “But you all decided to go this way; taking a detour will cost us an extra day.”
The blooming period of the Blood Orchid loomed over everyone like a blade at their backs, compelling them to move forward.
If they couldn’t get the flowers, then everything done up to this point would be in vain, including the sinking of the Bloody Mary would be rendered meaningless, and all the research would go to waste, their jobs hanging by a thread.
Concerned for their future, the Doctor took several deep breaths to steady his spirit and was the first to jump into the water.
With someone leading, the rest followed one after another into the water, the group continuing their journey.
Bi Fang reminded, “Everyone, stay closer together, don’t spread out too much; that way, the animals will see us as one group and won’t attack so easily.”
No sooner had he spoken than everyone quickly huddled together, clearly frightened by Bi Fang’s words.
“Are animals really going to attack us?”
“As long as we’re in the jungle, we’re susceptible to attacks from creatures at any moment, aren’t we?”
“Alright then.”
At first, the water only reached everyone’s hips, but as they went deeper, it soon rose to their waists.
Ripples from their movement spread across the water, and suddenly, prominent splashes arose from the weeds nearby.
Sam looked over, frowning.
“Damn, what’s that?” Boris suddenly stopped.
Ge’er, puzzled, asked, “What’s what?”
“Something just slid by.”
Ge’er was somewhat incredulous, thinking Boris was just joking: “Please don’t talk nonsense.”
But Boris was serious: “No, I’m serious, something slid by!”
Bill asked, “A living thing?”
“Everyone, get closer!”
Bi Fang immediately shouted, sensing that another big fellow was approaching.
Upon hearing Bi Fang speak, the closely clustered group moved even closer, and even the equally experienced Bill was no exception.
The previous encounter of Bi Fang battling the Python underwater had also earned this seasoned soldier’s respect, indicating his willingness to follow orders, with the half month of hunting prey in the Borneo tavern convincing him of Bi Fang’s extensive experience in the jungle.
Bill, Ah-Quan, and Bi Fang formed a triangular formation around the gathered group.
The python wasn’t in a hurry to attack. In Bi Fang’s awareness, it was like an extremely brutal hunter, who delighted in toying with its prey, watching the behaviors of its prey before death, which is why it could glide past Boris yet not attack.
Regrettably for it, all its actions were as clear as day in Bi Fang’s eyes.
Bi Fang didn’t draw his Burmese Knife from his waist but instead took out the Short Spear he had crafted earlier in the jungle, to which a Harpoon had been tied.
As the python slid towards them again, Bi Fang shifted his stance slightly and, from above, aimed directly at the python’s head and stabbed down viciously!
