Chapter 884: Chapter 880 The Great River Chapter 884: Chapter 880 The Great River “I’m not sure about other countries, but in Huaxia, maybe the most common way the general public learns about animals is from watching nature documentaries as a child?”
Bi Fang still remembered sitting in front of the TV as a kid, eagerly awaiting the start of the nature show.
That anticipation sometimes even surpassed the love for cartoons.

[Like Master Fang, I used to love watching nature documentaries as a kid.]
[My grandfather really enjoyed watching nature documentaries. I often visited his place when I was young, so I watched them too. Gradually, I found them pretty interesting, even more so than some cartoons.]
[I wasn’t that enthusiastic, but if I saw a cartoon I didn’t like, I would switch over to the nature documentary.]
[Seeing a fish lurking below the surface of the water and then suddenly shooting a jet of water from its mouth to knock an insect off a branch is, for some reason, extremely satisfying.]
The feeding was nearing its end, and Bi Fang, with Harley in tow, began to retreat slowly, distancing themselves from the three brothers on the savannah.
“Humans always have a curiosity about things they don’t understand; they want to know the astonishing power behind a tiger’s muscular build, the incredible might of a rhinoceros’s sharp horn, or how big fish create whirlpools in rivers.”
“But if you really put most people in front of a lion’s or tiger’s den or a crocodile pond in a zoo, I doubt many would feel a sense of closeness. Instinctively, they’d prefer to run as far away as possible.”33667713366771
“Even if you placed them in the monkey hill or the bird aviary, I doubt many would be keen to stay. Just a barrier isn’t enough to deepen their understanding; it’s not satisfying at all.”
“If animals stripped of their wildness and reality in zoos are thus, what more of the real wilderness.”
“Distance doesn’t create beauty, but it does create a sense of safety.”
After retreating several dozen meters, Bi Fang stood up straight again.
Having distanced himself from the big brother, the second brother, and the third brother, the trembling Harley was finally able to straighten and no longer cower.
[That’s so real.]
[One of the reasons I like Old Fang’s live streams is how he always encounters various strange animals, and most importantly, Old Fang describes them in great detail, making it so fascinating.]
[With all three brothers together, Harley is hardly a match.]
[Just shrinking behind Master Fang’s butt, that’s hilarious.]
“As a child, I was interested in them, but I dared not get close.”
“At that time, nature documentaries provided me with an excellent window to understand them.”
“The Harlequin Wolf is definitely a powerhouse, but we never really pay close attention to their performance. If anyone is interested in this creature and wants to delve deeper, why not take a look at Sir’s ‘Dynasty’?”
[Master Fang really loves Sir’s work.]
[I’ve seen ‘Dynasty,’ and it’s indeed good. Or to put it another way, Sir’s documentaries are never bad. He truly deserves the title ‘Father of Documentaries’; it’s like watching works of art.]
[Even if these animals go extinct someday, at least there will be something to prove to future generations that they once existed.]
[The theme has been elevated once again.]
Bi Fang’s gaze fixed on the three savanna brothers.
The hyenas tore open the old zebra, devouring the belly meat entirely, leaving behind rib bones tinged with crimson.
The bloody ribs curved toward the sky, silently revealing the brutal savagery of nature.
The slightly smaller juvenile zebra also had its abdomen emptied. A few unsated harlequin wolves sneaked over cautiously, nervously biting at the young zebra, trying to drag it back to their own camp.
A few of the spotted hyena crowd symbolically stood and howled a few times, but they chose not to engage in the struggle, merely posturing on the spot.
The harlequin wolves, scared off by the howling, crouched down after a dozen seconds and slowly returned, biting the zebra’s leg and continuing to drag it, only to be scared off again by the white hyenas, but they quickly came back.
After several repetitions, the harlequin wolves finally dragged the young zebra back to their own home, placing it beside the ostrich. Many hungry harlequin wolves hurried over to feast on the chunks of flesh, tearing and biting voraciously.
Zebras are enormously sized, and just one adult zebra was enough to feed a pride of lions or a clan of hyenas.
But the ostrich was much smaller by comparison, a “substandard” item with its abdomen hollowed out by a leopard. It was the most numerous carcass present, leaving even the plentiful harlequin wolves somewhat unsated, so they had no choice but to compete for the remaining juvenile zebra left by the hyena clan.
“Animals get ‘lazier’ once they are full. Many people, influenced by certain movies or shocked by the hyenas’ gutting behavior, subjectively think they are more ferocious, but in reality, this isn’t the case.”
“Many reptiles and arthropods, limited by their level, mostly have only the instinct for hunting, feeding, and breeding. But as mammals reach this stage, intellectual development enables them to exhibit distinct personality characteristics.”
“Of course, this is much weaker compared to humans. To me, anthropomorphizing animals is quite an awkward affair. Every time I see overly anthropomorphic descriptions of animals, my big toe involuntarily curls.”
[Hahaha, me too]
[I deeply agree.]
[Stop rushing me, you want a three-bedroom apartment, right? It’s already under construction]
Being brutal and fond of fighting doesn’t relate to the spotted hyena, so they usually won’t pick their food proactively and only attack when there’s a vested interest.
This is the same for most animals, so when there’s enough food, even if a young zebra gets dragged away, no fierce conflict will erupt.
After all, spotted hyenas won’t cure zebra meat to extend its shelf life like me; I’ve emphasized this many times already, which is also why we could be so close yet extremely safe at this time.
The entire feeding process of the three brothers didn’t last more than an hour, and the once bustling and tense savanna returned to silence after that, with the three groups gradually dispersing.
The vast savanna was left with only several carcasses exposing white bones, which might ultimately end up in the stomachs of vultures.
After watching one of the most authentic hunts, Bi Fang took a long breath and felt his spirits soar, a refreshing vigor flowing from the tips of his toes to the crown of his head, leaving him thoroughly invigorated.
Bi Fang turned and called out, “Let’s go, there’s nothing more to see.”
At that moment, Harley squatted atop a small mound just over two meters high, vigilantly looking around. Upon hearing his name, he quickly jumped down from the mound and followed closely behind Bi Fang.
The three great savanna groups basically represented the three most threatening carnivores in Africa, all with a sense of territory.
Now all three were satiated. This area could be considered a safe zone for the next three days. Unfortunately, Bi Fang was on a mission and couldn’t stay longer.
A day later.
A vast river barred the way for Bi Fang and Harley.
On both sides of the riverbank, huge Nile crocodiles lay by the shore, with their long, tooth-filled jaws wide open, silently waiting for thirsty prey to approach the water’s edge.
