Chapter 246: Unfolding Truth

Once they came back to the palace, Mrs. Cessley welcomed back Rihannan while bursting into tears. She sobbed while hugging onto Rihannan tightly.

“My Queen, I’m so glad that you’re safe. I’m so glad. I was so worried sick in mind thinking of what could have happened to you. Oh goodness, what had happened to your hand?”

Seeing as how Mrs. Cessley’s eyes were swollen from crying too much while waiting for Rihannan already, Rihannan felt a pang of sadness and tears welling up as well. She once again realized that Mrs. Cessley was someone she always needed by her side.

Mrs. Cessley immediately called for the doctor to come and treat Rihannan’s wounds and check up on her status. The treatment was simple and over quickly by pulling out the wooden splinters, disinfecting the area and bandaging it up. She was still extremely anxious, but was very relieved once she heard from the doctor that the mother and the baby inside of her are both completely fine without any serious problems.

“In anycase, My Queen, you must be exhausted from what had happened today, you should go inside and rest for toda—”

“Mrs. Cessley, I actually have some things I need to discuss with the king.”

Rihannan looked at Igor. Igor quietly nodded. Realizing that they have an important discussion to make, Mrs. Cessley didn’t complain or try to stop them at all, and stepped aside.

“I understand. But if you feel any discomfort in your body during the conversation, you must take a rest since you have to consider your baby. Do you understand?”

Rihannan reassured her that she would be careful with her health many times to Mrs. Cessley before she backed down.

Afterwards, Igor and Rihannan sat staring at each other in the guest room of the Queen’s palace. As the tea that was set in front of the two began to become cold without a single word being exchanged between them, Igor opened his mouth first.

“I’m not sure where to begin. But I guess I should talk about Leticia first…”

Rihannan grabbed her hand that still had bandages wrapped around it. Shea*sumed somewhat that there was some kind of misunderstanding, but was still scared somewhat that he may say something that was completely unexpected.

“I practically have spread the rumours about my relationship with Leticia myself.” As Rihannan stared at his face in surprise, he quickly added to his words. “Please don’t misunderstand. What I’m saying is that it’s truly nothing beyond just rumours. I’ve never had any physical body contact with Leticia at all. The rumours that Leticia spread around about me sleeping with her at night was all made up by her. Of course, I have somewhat encouraged those rumours a bit…”

Then the long story started to unfurl. He explained the reason why he had allowed such rumours about him and Leticia spread. About how once Rihannan wasn’t able to have a child anymore, the queen mother pressured him to make a child through Leticia, and instead of doing that, he tried to make the Queen Mother abandon her plan by spreading the rumour that Leticia was actually his mistress.

“Why have you not told me that?”

Rihannan reprimanded Igor with resentment filled in her voice. If he had told her the truth, then she would have known that she wouldn’t need to feel any pain about her sister having an affair with her husband.

Igor dropped his head low.

“…I thought that it was what you wanted as well. After hearing that you wanted me to dance with Leticia, Ia*sumed that you completely understood and there was no need to talk about it any further.”

“The reason why I’ve made that request was because of Leticia’s status. There was no one in that party that would be willing to have a dance with her. It’s also an age old custom where if anyone does not have anyone to dance with for their first ball, a family member should dance with them. Of course, it’s true that my father was the one who gave that suggestion to me later, but I’ve never even once…”

Rihannan couldn’t bring herself to continue her words and kept her lips shut. She couldn’t blame him for the problem of not telling her the truth. At that point in time, Igor and Rihannan’s relationship was that they never really talked to each other unless it was necessary. If she had actually asked about it first, he may have answered her honestly. In the end, the fault lied in both of them.
