Chapter 799: Chapter 497 Demon Trace_2
Is Lord Lis close to making a breakthrough to Legend status?
With such thoughts in his heart, Xia Zuo felt an even deeper sense of awe towards Lis.
After his breakthrough to the Golden Rank, even encountering the Gale Sword Saint, Igley hadn’t given him such an impression.
Lis was seen carrying a person in each hand as he walked over, both of whom seemed to have fainted.
The person in Lis’s left hand looked familiar– it was the same person with the Starving Wolf Mercenary Group tattoo whom he and Walker had been tracking.
At this moment, there was no hint of the Gold Level Undead’s aura about him; the bruises on his face suggested that he had only been knocked out recently.
The person in Lis’s right hand was a skinny figure enveloped in a black robe, and judging by the aura emanating from him, it seemed he was a Gold Level Mage.
“Lord Lis?”
Xia Zuo took a few steps forward and asked Lis.
“It’s nothing, just be more careful next time.”
Lis glanced at Xia Zuo without much concern.
Lis understood all too well why Xia Zuo had fallen so easily into the Illusion Magic; the Elves of the Elf Kingdom had been isolated for far too long, seldom leaving the Elf Forest within their kingdom.
Those who had lived their lives within the forest often became careless in different environments, resulting in various disadvantages.
Very few Elves actually traveled within the Human Kingdom, like Ailina, the Elf Ranger from the Yaya Mercenary Group that Lis had joined at the beginning.
During casual conversations with the team, Lis learned that Ailina too had suffered a lot on her journeys through the Human Kingdom and had even almost been captured as a slave.
It was only after meeting Taya that her situation gradually began to improve.
Previously, when Lis was training the Elves in Nature’s Wrath, he specifically tailored his guidance to such situations, even setting aside a designated area in their camp to dispose of various traps and tricks for the younger Elves to experience.
Lis had mastered a great number of “skills and methods,” all quite positive and enlightening, though the Elves complained bitterly and even began to regard Lis with a mix of fear, as if looking at a Demon King.
But, there was no denying that this substantially improved their combat abilities.
Lis had even set up Illusion Magic specifically, but Xia Zuo still fell for it.
This showed that the fellow was simply too careless, entirely focused on tracking and forgetting to remain vigilant.
Lis shook his head slightly; after leaving Elf Land, he had been ready to leave the Elf Kingdom, as he had many other matters to attend to.
Only because he learned of a special operation by Nature’s Wrath in Acot City did he take a detour to check it out.
That afternoon, Lis had already been following behind Xia Zuo and the others, undetected with his strength.
One could only say Xia Zuo still had the sense not to put all his eggs in one basket, having Erik lead the others away.
Otherwise, Lis would have been in quite the headache if they had all been caught in one sweep.
Hearing Lis’s tone unhurried and seemingly admonishing, Xia Zuo felt somewhat embarrassed, not about Lis, but about his own oversight.
After speaking, Lis paid no further attention to Xia Zuo.
Throwing the two people he was carrying to the ground, Lis pondered for a moment and decided not to deal with the big man.
Clearly, this person was just an ordinary Silver Level mercenary, seemingly controlled by someone else.
Lis’s gaze shifted to the figure in the black robe at his side; the Illusion just now was his handiwork.
Although it was still crude to Lis, it was quite bewildering to the average Gold Level Professional.
Injecting a stream of Magic Power into the man’s body, Lis carefully observed his reaction.
“Alright, wake up and stand up. You think you can keep pretending in front of me?”
Lis said with a hint of taunt, and the lying skinny man trembled slightly and obediently crawled to his feet.
“My lord, I do not know where I have offended you; I will leave immediately!”
The one who stood up was an elder in black, a face full of wrinkles peeking out from beneath the black hood, standing out starkly under the faint light.
His face was gloomy, exuding an indescribable sense of oppression and anxiety.
In his view, it was highly likely that a passing Strongman discovered some Illusion out of curiosity, came to investigate, and broke it.
After all, even though the two Elves obediently stood aside, the Strongman in front of him was clearly a Human, likely unrelated to the Elves.
He’s so young; could he be a Legendary Strongman?
Even though Jesus had not sensed any aura from the young man in front of him, the shadow of Death never ceased to loom over his heart.
He had never seen a Legendary Strongman, but even if the young man before him wasn’t one, dealing with him would be quite easy.
Jesus recalled the terrifying magic power that shredded his illusions just moments earlier, and the sharp figure that had suddenly appeared before him, not to mention the horrifying force of the slap on his face.
All this happened too swiftly and unexpectedly, leaving him without any intention of resisting now.
“Stop struggling. Just answer what I ask, will you?”
“Understand?”
Lis looked at Jesus with a smile on his face, but to Jesus, it seemed exceedingly dreadful and frightening.
Upon hearing this, Jesus struggled for a moment before saying miserably:
“…Ask your question.”
Now he wasn’t sure about the relationship between Lis and the two elves, so he could only take it one step at a time.
“Who asked you to set up this illusion?”
Lis inquired, a hint of inquisitiveness on his face.
“It was the leader of the Starving Wolf Mercenary Group. He said that elves have been causing them trouble lately, and he wanted me to take care of it.”
Jesus spoke quickly, this time without hesitation.
“Do you know the identities of these two elves?”
Lis asked with a smile, his gaze filled with an inexplicable significance.
This time Jesus hesitated for a moment but still nodded with difficulty:
“I know, they must be members of ‘Nature’s Wrath,’ the new extraordinary organization that emerged in Jade City.”
“It’s said that they have been relentlessly pursuing and eliminating members of the Elf Slave Catching Team, I don’t know why they targeted the Starving Wolf Mercenary Group.”
“…I think, maybe the Starving Wolf Mercenary Group also got involved in capturing elf slaves.”
“Knowing this, why did you still accept the request from the Starving Wolf Mercenary Group? Aren’t you afraid of the elves’ revenge?”
Lis seemed genuinely curious as he asked.
“…Afraid, but not too worried.”
Jesus said through clenched teeth, although admitting these things in front of Xia Zuo might mean facing the endless pursuit of ‘Nature’s Wrath,’ but it was still better than being killed by Lis right now.
“The reward for this job is very generous. Once I finish it, I’ll directly leave the Berlin Kingdom and head to the north of the continent. I don’t think those elves could possibly chase me there.”
“You!”
Xia Zuo was somewhat annoyed but still suppressed the rage in his heart.
Lis was questioning, and he dared not interrupt rashly.
Jesus, paying no attention to Xia Zuo, quickly prostrated before Lis, pleading:
“Esteemed lord, I am willing to give you all my wealth in exchange for my life.”
For Jesus, whose life was already more than halfway through, gaining more power was no longer his pursuit.
This made him cherish his remaining time even more, and as for dignity or wealth, they were utterly trivial in comparison.
“Oh?”
“Is that so…”
Lis watched with interest as Jesus groveled before him and turned to Xia Zuo, saying:
“Do you think he’s telling the truth?”

Lis, amused, looked at Jesus who was pleading in a low voice, then turned to Xia Zuo and asked:
