Chapter 561: Chapter 560
Erin South Martin thought she must have misheard.
In disbelief, she looked at the police officer: “What did you say? That wife claimed it was us who started the fight? It was clearly that man who pushed me first, he…”
The officer helplessly said, “The place where you were dining just happens to have no surveillance cameras, so there’s no way to prove your innocence. Now they are adamantly insisting it was you who started the altercation, and that man’s injuries do look more serious. So…”
Erin South Martin’s eyes widened in astonishment.
Kiera just glanced at Tom Davis, who immediately said, “Okay, officer, we will compensate. It’s a minor matter, I’ll take care of it…”
Tom Davis went off to the side with the officer.
It was then that Erin South Martin slowly turned her head, looking at Kiera with a sense of grievance: “Keera, why is this happening?”
Kiera sighed, “Erin, you need to know that the world is not as beautiful as we imagine it to be, but I don’t want you to lose your passion for it. Just keep this purity of yours.”
Erin South Martin was like a frostbitten eggplant, following Kiera out the door.
Even after getting into the car, she still looked so deeply traumatized as if society had given her a harsh beating, which Kiera found amusing.
Charles Olsen was coping better than Erin South Martin and even offered a few words of comfort in the car.
Seeing that Erin South Martin still didn’t seem cheered up, Kiera was about to search her phone for some comforting words when Erin suddenly raised her head, her gaze steadily forward: “I think you’re right, Keera!”
Charles Olsen was taken aback, “What?”
Erin spoke plainly, “Although the world isn’t that perfect, it doesn’t matter to me, I have the family background and ability to make mistakes! Just like what happened today, it won’t affect my life at all, so the next time something like this happens, I’ll still meddle!”
Kiera was slightly taken aback upon hearing this.
She looked at Erin South Martin and saw a vibrant vitality in her.
She was like a little sun, born into a good family, always positive and never retreating.
Unlike Kiera’s own childhood…
Back then, Kiera had no room for error, as compensating someone wrongly meant using up months of her future living expenses…
No one was there to cover for her, so she had to learn to protect herself prudently.
She suddenly felt a bit envious of Erin South Martin. It was a life of smooth sailing that had given her such a cheery disposition. She also realized that she shouldn’t have discouraged her earlier; instead, she should have been an encouragement for Erin.
Having come to this realization, Kiera let out a relieved smile.
Erin South Martin had fully recovered, the recent event seeming to have no lasting effect on her, and the four of them, along with Amy, found another place to eat before heading to a makeup studio for preparation.
The evening gowns had already been prepared, and after getting dressed, they tidied up and went to the hotel lobby where the engagement ceremony for Scott Martin and Vera South was to take place.
As they approached the entrance, they saw the Martin family’s butler there collecting invitations. Those allowed to enter were all prominent figures from Clance, and the scrutiny was very strict.
They stood at the entrance waiting for the Olsen family to arrive.
In the parking area, Rebecca Allen and Frankie Allen stepped out of their car.
The Martin family had a sizable influence abroad, so the five major families of Clance were willing to give them this respect, and most of the people who came today were elders from various families, accompanied by their younger relatives.
Since Frankie Allen was now the head of the Allen Family, Mrs. and Mr. Allen did not attend.
Rebecca Allen got out of the car, looking around: “I wonder if Keira has arrived. Ever since she moved back to the Olsen Family, I haven’t seen her. I don’t know how she’s doing, whether she misses me or not!”
Feeling a bit resentful, she added: “And then there’s Miss Mary. After Keira went home, she went back with her, forgiving Ellis Olsen. I think she just followed Keira! Back at the South Family’s place, she was always trying to compete with me…”
Frankie listened to her childish complaints and was a bit speechless, patting his forehead.
Just then, the Olsen family’s car slowly arrived.
Rebecca’s eyes immediately lit up.
She stood there, staring eagerly at the Olsen family’s nanny van.
The Olsens’ cars were three in total, and as they parked one after another in the parking lot, Rebecca eagerly watched the first car, from which two Olsen brothers got out.
The second car let out three more brothers.
Rebecca’s attention was fixed on the first car; she moved toward it. Surely, her benefactor sister must be in that car?
But to her surprise, the door opened and out came… Ellis Olsen?
Rebecca peered into the car, asking, “Brother Xu, where is Keira?”
Ellis coughed lightly, “She went ahead earlier with Mr. Horton!”
“She’s already here? If I had known, I would’ve messaged her earlier. I’ve wasted so much time waiting here!” she deflated upon hearing the news and hurried toward the banquet hall.
Frankie respectfully nodded to Ellis.
Ellis returned the gesture and continued to explain to Rebecca, “My sister just texted. Since our invitation was with theirs, they are waiting for us at the entrance to the banquet hall.”
Rebecca quickened her pace, “Then let’s hurry. We shouldn’t keep the benefactor waiting too long!”
Ellis had no choice but to pick up the pace.
Rebecca then cast another glance inside his car, seeing no one else come out, she couldn’t help but ask with a tinge of jealousy, “What about Miss Mary? Is she with Keira? What did they do this afternoon? Why didn’t they leave from home? Did they go out for lunch? Why didn’t they invite me?”
Ellis replied, “…Miss Mary is feeling a bit unwell. She rested at home today.”
At that, Rebecca’s eyes lit up, “Really?”
That’s great! No one to compete with her for the position of benefactor’s little follower tonight!
But when she saw Ellis’s stern face, Rebecca realized she’d shown her feelings too clearly. It was somewhat inappropriate to rejoice at his wife’s illness…
She gave a sheepish smile, then quickened her steps, graceful as a light butterfly, dashing towards the banquet hall.
Benefactor sister, I’m coming!
Without Mary tonight, no one would compete with her for the position of the benefactor’s little shadow. She could stay close to her benefactor all night~
Rebecca’s thoughts were sweet until she rushed to the entrance of the banquet hall and, from a distance, saw Kiera. Her eyes sparkled even brighter: “Benefactor!”
The next moment, however, she saw a lively and cheerful girl, like a little sun, appear by Kiera’s side.
Rebecca: ???
A sense of crisis instantly hit.
