Chapter 40: Rejection

It was a surprise to Qin Mosheng when he received Su Bei’s call.

They arranged to meet at a place. Qin Mosheng was the first to arrive and was somewhat nervous.

Su Bei wore a white cashmere coat, a red scarf, and a pair of knee-length leather boots.

Overall, she looked beautiful and elegant.

“Did a friend send you here?” asked Qin Mosheng, who broke the silence first.

Through the glass window, he had seen Su Bei departing from a black Bentley.

Su Bei was taken aback before she nodded.

Qin Mosheng wanted to help her out of her coat, but she declined. He then turned around and pulled the chair for her.

Su Bei sat on the opposite side, facing him.

“What do you want to eat?” asked Qin Mosheng as he looked at Su Bei with a pair of uneasy eyes.

Su Be replied softly, “Anything.”

Qin Mosheng ordered for Su Bei.

Suddenly, the atmosphere was somewhat somber and depressing.

It was Qin Mosheng who finally spoke first. “Su Bei, I apologize for my abrupt visit yesterday. I was looking for you the entire day. I got anxious and went to your house without any other alternatives.”

“Then you told my mom that you were going to marry me?” The displeasure in Su Bei’s eyes was clearly expressed in her tone.

Qin Mosheng explained, “Your mom was asking me. I was afraid that you wouldn’t be able to explain it clearly, so I told her.”

Su Bei heaved out a long sigh. She could imagine how shocked and anxious her mother was when she saw Qin Mosheng.

For six years, she had no boyfriend.

After she returned home three years ago, no man had ever come looking for her, in particular, not someone as young and promising and rich as Qin Mosheng.

She did not want to blame him. She looked up at Qin Mosheng with a pair of solemn eyes. “Mosheng, I sincerely do not wish to hurt you. But…”

The word “but” made Qin Mosheng shudder.

All rejections often began with the word “but.”

He focused his gaze on Su Bei. “Su Bei, no matter what your final decision is, I hope you can consider it again. Don’t turn me down, will you?”

Su Bei took a deep breath and answered him gravely, “Mosheng, it’s impossible between us. I don’t need to think about it. You’re a great man, but we’re not suitable for each other!”

No room for negotiation was left in Su Bei’s rejection. Though Qin Mosheng was a calm person, he got anxious finally. “Su Bei, you can’t accept me, or are you still in love with someone else?”

He paused for a moment. “You need to move on. I don’t know how you’ve been hurt in the past. But you have to let go sometime. Or are you still waiting for him? For three years, I have never seen anyone looking for you nor did you receive any gifts or letters. Su Bei, he has probably long forgotten about you. Aren’t you being silly?”

Su Bei was already in a bad mood from these last few days. With Qin Mosheng acting aggressively, she could not contain her anger.

“You’re not qualified to judge my affairs. Keep this in mind that I do not accept your pursuit. I’m sorry. I have something going on, and I’ve got to go.”

She got up and headed for the exit without touching her food.
