Chapter 975: Chapter 975: Did Little Ya’er Speak?
Shu Yu was a bit surprised. “When did she come over?”
“Not long before you came back. She’s sleeping in Ah Ning’s room.” The old lady initially wasn’t used to calling her Ah Ning and kept calling her Sanya all the time, which made the little girl quite unhappy.
Now she wasn’t afraid of the old lady anymore, and every day she tirelessly reminded her of her new name–one that was pleasant, easy to remember, and brimming with meaning. After doing this a few times, now everyone in the Lu family had started using her new name.
When Shu Yu heard she was in Ah Ning’s room, she went over to take a look. Not only was Little Ya’er asleep, but Ah Ning was too. The two young girls were lying under thin blankets, their heads resting against each other, sleeping soundly.
Seeing them asleep, Shu Yu didn’t want to disturb them. She had Jiang Kuanyu take a glance at the girls from the doorway to make sure they were fine, and then quietly stepped back out.
Returning to the living room, Shu Yu asked in a low voice about Little Ya’er’s condition. “What did the doctor say?”
While pouring tea for both of them, the old lady replied, “Her physical injuries have been treated. As long as she’s nursed well afterward, there won’t be much of a problem. But it’s the wound in her heart that’s the real concern. I heard Doctor Zhao say that this little girl woke up once at midnight, and then again around noon. When she woke up, all she did was stare blankly at the ceiling without speaking, looking as if she’d lost her soul.”
The old lady shook her head as she spoke. It was understandable, after all. According to Yu, Little Ya’er had witnessed the murder of her only grandfather right in front of her. After that, she hid alone at the foot of a hill for two days and starved during that time. Even an adult couldn’t endure such trauma, let alone a child so young.
“Doctor Zhao said it’s fortunate that Ah Ning was there talking to her. Maybe it’s because they’re both little girls, but the child finally showed a bit of reaction. Doctor Zhao said that Ah Ning was chattering so much it gave him a headache, but at least the child listened to Ah Ning and obediently got up to eat something. Because of this, she’s now particularly dependent on Ah Ning, clutching her sleeve and refusing to let go.”
When Ah Ning tried to stand up, Little Ya’er would follow suit. When she wanted to go outside, Little Ya’er would trail behind her.
But her condition was too fragile–she really needed to be lying in bed and resting. Of course, Ah Ning couldn’t stay with her at the Meng family’s house all the time, so she simply brought her here instead.
It worked out well considering the Meng family only had two grown men. For someone as young as Little Ya’er, it was probably unsettling to be in such a strange place alone with two unfamiliar adults.
So Doctor Zhao brought her here. After a long day, Ah Ning was exhausted, and the two young girls lay in bed and chatted for a while. Naturally, it was mostly Ah Ning talking. Before long, both fell asleep.
Hearing this, Shu Yu nodded. Jiang Kuanyu, now reassured that Little Ya’er was fine, had already checked on her, so he didn’t linger and soon said his goodbyes.
When he saw her again the next day, Little Ya’er was awake.
But just as the old lady had mentioned, she wouldn’t let go of Ah Ning’s clothes, her grip uneasy.
Little Ya’er needed rest to recuperate, but Ah Ning couldn’t lie in bed with her the entire day. She had to get up to brush her teeth, wash her face, and eat breakfast. During these moments, Little Ya’er would gaze helplessly at her back and then shrink to the foot of the bed, hugging her legs.
Ah Ning felt a pang of sadness seeing this and went to find Shu Yu. “Second sister, what should I do?”
Shu Yu told her to go have breakfast while she herself went into the room, sat on the edge of the bed, and spoke softly to the child, “Little Ya’er?”
The voice sounded somewhat familiar, and Little Ya’er felt like she had heard it before.
She hesitated for quite some time before slowly lifting her head. When she saw Shu Yu, she froze for a moment before recalling, “Grandpa…”
The following Ah Ning, who had just walked back in, widened her eyes in surprise. She spoke? Little Ya’er spoke!
