Chapter 971: Chapter 971 Manor in Hand
Shu Yu naturally wouldn’t let herself suffer a loss. The next day, she went to the Manor with Daniu to negotiate the purchase of it from Jiang Kuanyu.
Jiang Kuanyu hadn’t seen Little Ya’er and seemed worried. “Is she alright?”
“She’s fine now. The doctor said she ate something unclean and got mildly poisoned. I went to check on her before heading out this morning. Although she’s still unconscious, her complexion looks much better than yesterday, and her fever has gone down. With a couple of days’ rest, she should recover just fine.”
Jiang Kuanyu was startled. “Poisoned?”
Shu Yu nodded. “She probably ate some wild fruits or mushrooms while hiding in that grove because she was too hungry.”
Jiang Kuanyu recalled seeing some fruit pits scattered on the ground when he descended the steep slope.
Deep down, he felt somewhat fortunate. Thankfully, Monarch Lu Xiang came over to buy the Manor and even proposed visiting the tenants’ homes. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have known Ms. Tang had already killed two people.
If they had discovered it late, they would not only have no idea where to look for the missing people, but they might have assumed that Ms. Tang took Little Ya’er away–whether to sell her or harm her. They wouldn’t have been able to save her life so promptly.
Knowing she was safe now, Jiang Kuanyu finally felt at ease.
The two of them then began discussing the Manor’s sale. Jiang Kuanyu handed over the house deed, the land deed, and even drafted a contract.
Shu Yu took a look and was stunned. “One thousand two hundred taels?”
The price went down even further?
Jiang Kuanyu explained, “After such a major incident yesterday, most people wouldn’t even consider buying this Manor. That you, Monarch Lu Xiang, are still willing to discuss the matter–I am, of course, willing to give a discount. Besides, your actions showed me that you are someone with a kind and generous nature. In the future, you will likely take good care of this Manor and treat the remaining tenants well.”
Shu Yu: “…”
Well, what could she say? Was this what they call good karma?
Did she just unexpectedly earn another two hundred taels?
Shu Yu was secretly delighted. Since the other party was this magnanimous, how could she fail to reciprocate his goodwill?
Without hesitation, she took out her silver notes, signed her name with confident fluidity, and gathered up the deeds.
“In that case, I must thank Young Master Jiang.”
Jiang Kuanyu laughed heartily. “Honestly, now that the Manor is sold, I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders.”
With the matter settled, both parties felt relieved of their burdens.
Jiang Kuanyu asked Shu Yu to wait for a moment, then sent his attendants to gather the tenants so she could meet them as their new landlord.
This time, Shu Yu did not refuse. She had already met most of the tenants and had a general impression of them.
While waiting in the living room and finishing her second cup of tea, the tenants began to trickle in, one after another, looking confused as they stood in the front yard.
Jiang Kuanyu glanced over them briefly–almost everyone had arrived.
He then stepped onto the steps, looked at the crowd murmuring softly among themselves, and spoke loudly, “Everyone, quiet down for a moment.”
Once the chatter below subsided, Jiang Kuanyu continued, “Over the past few years, you’ve worked diligently on my family’s land. I have seen it all. However, the harvest hasn’t been good, and I’m left with no choice but to sell this Manor and the land. You are all likely aware of this by now. Today, I have found a suitable buyer, and going forward, the Manor and its surrounding lands will belong to a new landlord.”
A tide of noise suddenly erupted below, louder and more chaotic than before.
Some even started sobbing softly. With the land sold, what would become of them? Were they about to lose their livelihoods?
