Chapter 957: Chapter 957: How is Monarch Lu Xiang Here?
Shu Yu hurriedly brought her to the mule carriage. Thanks to Zhao Xi, the carriage was always stocked with some commonly used medicines.
She examined Little Ya’er briefly. There were large patches of abrasions on her body, some quite severe. Additionally, there was an injury on the back of her head from a blow, though it had already scabbed over. It was likely inflicted by Li Xiaoshan and his group.
The young girl remained unconscious, feverish, yet her body trembled intermittently, as if she was extremely cold.
Shu Yu quickly pulled out a medicine bottle from the drawer, poured some of the medicine powder out, and used a water pouch to feed it to her.
But half of it was spat out as it was fed, making her look pitiful.
Young Master Jiang returned. This time, instead of letting Ying Xi drive, he sat at the shaft himself, grabbed the reins, and urgently sped back to the manor.
The guards in the bamboo forest glanced over in this direction. Once they saw the figures move off, they turned back to their posts.
By now, the sky had grown somewhat dim. When Shu Yu and the others arrived back at the manor, the other villagers were also returning one by one.
However, none of them had found the child, and all wore anxious expressions, discussing whether they should search farther away.
Young Master Jiang stopped the carriage and addressed the crowd, “No need to keep searching; the child has been found.”
The villagers heaved a collective sigh of relief upon hearing this. Just as they were about to ask for more details, they saw Shu Yu step out of the carriage with the child in her arms. Immediately, everyone surged forward.
“Make way! The child is injured; let Uncle Hu take a look first.”
The crowd quickly parted, forming a path. Uncle Hu placed her carefully onto a bed, checked her pulse meticulously, and upon noticing the corner of Little Ya’er’s mouth, raised his head to ask, “What did she eat?”
“This.” Shu Yu handed him the medicine bottle. Uncle Hu sniffed it briefly, his eyes lighting up slightly. “This is a rare, excellent medicine. Since she’s already taken fever medicine, let’s wait for now. I’ll treat her wounds first; if the fever doesn’t go down soon, we’ll increase the dosage.”
Uncle Hu was actually quite grateful that the girl had such medicine on hand. Otherwise, given the manor’s current state, he might not have been able to locate suitable herbs for Little Ya’er. His medical skill was average, his capabilities limited, and with nightfall fast approaching, the city gates were already closed, making it impossible to take her to the medical clinic in the city.
As for other village doctors in nearby towns, they might fall short of his skill.
Shu Yu handed Uncle Hu the medicine for external injuries as well, letting him decide which to use and reassuring him to take whatever was necessary.
This time, Uncle Hu’s gaze toward Shu Yu changed. Even with his modest medical expertise, he could discern that the medicines in her possession were of exceptional quality–he felt as though he’d stumbled upon treasure.
Shu Yu asked Ying Xi to stay and help, then stepped out of the room by herself.
Young Master Jiang hurried over a few steps and asked, “How’s it looking?”
Shu Yu shook her head and immediately asked, “The officers haven’t arrived yet?”
Young Master Jiang found it odd as well. “Logically, they should’ve returned by now.”
Before his words had fully landed, shouts from the villagers could be heard outside the courtyard. “The bailiff is here! Jiang Boss, the bailiff is here!”
Shu Yu and Young Master Jiang exchanged a glance before stepping out of the courtyard together.
At a single glance, Shu Yu spotted Hu Li. She hadn’t expected him to be the one who came.
Hu Li arrived with four officers. All of them looked travel-worn, and their expressions were extremely grave.
After all, it was a case involving two murders.
He was just about to inquire about the location of the corpses and the suspect when he caught sight of Shu Yu. He froze instantly.
Even though Young Master Jiang approached him, it seemed he didn’t notice, and instead, he took a few swift steps to reach Shu Yu, surprised as he asked, “Monarch Lu Xiang, why are you here?”
Could this murder case have something to do with her?
