Chapter 950: Chapter 950: The Terrified Lu Sanzhu
Daniu followed her down a moment later.
As soon as the two descended, they saw Third Lu slumped on the ground, staring straight ahead.
Shu Yu turned her head to look. Under the faint light coming from the cellar entrance above, an emaciated, elderly man in his fifties sat not far ahead, leaning against the corner of the wall. His lifeless eyes were wide open, an utterly chilling sight.
The smell inside the cellar was unpleasant, but amidst the mix of various odors, the stench of a rotting corpse was unmistakable.
This man had likely been dead for several days.
Shu Yu pulled out a lighter, blew on it twice, and the cellar became noticeably brighter. It no longer seemed as cold and menacing as before.
With Daniu’s support, Third Lu finally managed to stand up, trembling. He wasn’t truly afraid of dead bodies, but the scene before him was simply too horrifying.
Shu Yu, holding the lighter, moved closer to the corpse to get a better look. Seeing this, Daniu hurriedly grabbed her arm. “Don’t go. I… I’ll check instead.”
Without waiting for her response, he took the lighter from her hand.
Though Daniu felt his scalp tingle, he couldn’t allow his younger sister to take the lead.
In a short while, he turned around with a grave expression and told the two of them, “The man is dead.”
Shu Yu remained silent, “… Really? You just checked for breath under his nose, and that’s your confirmation?”
Still, after observing for some time, even without getting closer, Shu Yu could tell the person had indeed been killed.
As she was deep in thought, Young Master Jiang’s voice came from the cellar entrance, “Lady Lu, are you all okay? Is everything fine?”
“Everything’s fine. We’re coming up now.”
Shu Yu climbed out of the cellar first, followed closely by Third Lu, with Daniu being the last to emerge.
By the time he came out, Shu Yu had already recounted the situation inside the cellar in detail.
Young Master Jiang furrowed his brows tightly. He instructed someone to go down to confirm and also had Uncle Hu check the scene.
After coming back up, Uncle Hu’s face was grim. “It’s indeed Old Cui. He’s been dead for two days.”
The onlookers erupted upon hearing this. Old Man Cui was dead? And he had died in his own cellar?
They lived so close to him, yet no one had noticed he’d been dead for two days.
No wonder they hadn’t seen Old Man Cui leave his house recently. They had assumed he, like everyone else, was upset about unpaid rents and chose to stay home. Who could have imagined he had already lost his life?
“How did he die?” Young Master Jiang asked.
Uncle Hu replied, “He was stabbed twice–once in the leg and once in a vital spot.”
Young Master Jiang took a deep breath, then turned to his attendant. “Report to the authorities. Don’t touch either of the bodies for now.”
After saying this, he waved his hand, signaling everyone to leave.
“Don’t linger here. If the crime scene gets disturbed, the officers will hold everyone accountable once they arrive. Everyone, step outside.”
He took the lead and walked out the door. Hearing this, the villagers stole one last glance at the cellar before retreating.
Someone, however, went back to fetch a piece of white cloth to cover Old Man Cui’s body.
Young Master Jiang cast a glance at the woman Ying Xi was holding tightly, his frown deepening.
That man, Li Xiaoshan, had been killed by this woman. But as for who had killed Old Cui, that would only become clear after the authorities conducted their investigation.
Young Master Jiang felt a headache brewing. A murder case near the manor, with two dead bodies no less, was considered gravely inauspicious.
Particularly since the buyer had stumbled upon the matter directly. It seemed unlikely that the manor could be sold successfully now.
At this thought, Young Master Jiang turned to Shu Yu. “Lady Lu, this must have been a fright for you. I’ll have someone keep an eye on things here. As for you…”
