Chapter 1108: Chapter 1108 Filial Piety_1
The two let out long sighs and short gasps, and soon the topic shifted elsewhere.
Purple Summers stood silently for a while before returning to her own room.
As she closed the door and glanced down at the plethora of snacks in her embrace, her appetite suddenly vanished, leaving her feeling utterly uninterested.
She placed all the snacks on the table, then lay back down on the bed, subconsciously reaching for her phone to go online. Her movement halted, and after a moment, she put the phone back.
What was the use of looking?
Apart from filling her with idle frustrations, could she, pregnant as she was, catch the criminal? If all the police in Kingsley City were at a loss, was she smarter than all of them combined?
Even so, she found it hard to calm her mind.
Purple Summers tossed and turned on the bed.
After lying there for a while, as the sky outside gradually brightened, she heard the sound of a car drawing nearer in the quiet of the early morning. Moments later, Alexander Summers walked in, the aroma of food wafting in with him.
Seeing that she was still awake, Alexander couldn’t help but smile and say, “Have you been waiting all this time?”
“Mhm,” Purple Summers nodded honestly, “I was too hungry to sleep.”
“Let’s eat, then. I’ll have Aunt Taylor bring up a glass of soy milk in a bit,” Alexander said as he opened the meal box and teased, “Embarrassed to put your man to such use for something like this?”
“It wasn’t me who sent you,” Purple Summers defended, “It was your child ordering you around.”
Alexander laughed, “My child knows what a peony dumpling is before being born?”
“He doesn’t know, but I wanted to eat it, and he’s being filial to me,” Purple Summers said calmly.
Hearing this, Alexander was both annoyed and amused; he pinched and rubbed Purple Summers’ face, “So I run out early in the morning to buy breakfast, and not only do I not get a single thank you, but all the filial credit goes to him?”
“He’s filial to you, too,” Purple Summers said as she picked up some chopsticks and stuffed a dumpling into Alexander’s mouth.
After chewing and swallowing a few bites, Alexander remarked, “Hmm, not bad.”
A set of peony dumplings came with six, two sets had twelve, and the two of them quickly finished eating, taking turns with each bite.
Once sated, Purple Summers slowly got out of bed to wash up and brush her teeth.
With the toothbrush in her mouth, she asked Alexander, “Any progress on the case recently?”
Alexander was taken aback by the question. During the time she had been home on pregnancy leave, they had always avoided bringing up the matter. Why was Purple Summers suddenly asking about it now?
Spitting out toothpaste froth, Purple Summers added, “You can share with me what I can hear; just don’t tell me the bad news. If I’m in the dark about everything, I won’t feel at ease.”
After pondering for a moment, Alexander told her, “The good news is the killer has not acted recently. He has been ordering flowers online using many different accounts, mainly targeting young women in Kingsley City, aged between 16 and 30. Right now, all the women who have received flowers are under concentrated police protection, so there’s no need to worry.”
“Can’t they trace the accounts to anyone?”
“The accounts either use stolen information or are completely fake,” Alexander explained. “Drug dealers often control a large number of ghost accounts to facilitate the concealment of funds. Following this trail usually leads to a dead end.”
“I see…” contemplated Purple Summers, continuing to rinse and wash without asking further.
Alexander, watching her emerge calmly from the washroom and picking up a prenatal education book to flip through, felt somewhat uneasy.
He was concerned that Purple Summers was keeping her worries to herself while pretending everything was fine.
“Oh, there’s another interesting thing,” Alexander interjected.
He attempted to lighten the mood for Purple Summers.
Sure enough, Purple Summers was curious and looked up, “What’s interesting?”
“Remember Norton Young, the classmate you helped with a legal case?” Alexander said with a smile, “He’s started live streaming, specifically analyzing the rose case. He’s quite popular online now, and several streamers are imitating him by starting similar deduction live streams, but none of them are as popular as he is.”
