Chapter 1451: Chapter 112: Take Your Dirty Money and Get Out of My House
Watching Old John and Aji quietly bringing over one well-acquainted villager after another, each receiving a bag of grain and a bag of seeds before departing with endless gratitude and kowtows, Negris angrily said:
“You’re cheating; the faith you buy like this is insincere.”
Anthony smugly asked Silver Coin, who was distributing the grain, “Silver Coin, is their faith sincere?”
Silver Coin nodded, “Sincere, and zealous. Because I’ve told them that I will buy what they grow at a high price, rewarding ten Demon Crystals to the highest yielding farmer, five to the second, and two to the third. Right now, they’re filled with enthusiasm.”
“It’s impossible, absolutely impossible. They’re just blinded by that bag of grain you gave them. Once it’s gone, their faith will vanish too,” Negris contended, dissatisfied.
But Anthony didn’t talk like this on the airship, where he boasted at great length that faith is the hope of the weak and suffering blooms into devotion. Now it’s back to Ange’s same old tricks?
No, this is too much like cheating. It’s unacceptable! Negris fumed, thinking if it knew it was this easy, it would have hoarded a wave of jewels and wealth first, then bought followers, rather than foolishly helping everyone cheat on a test.
They shouldn’t be allowed to do this, simply because it had never done so.
Silver Coin spread his hands, “No worries. They took seeds given by the Lord himself. As long as they grow it, they will also offer their faith when it’s time to eat.”
Negris was speechless. Ange had too many God Statuses, which could hedge risks, making the spread of faith indeed easy. But still, Negris complained, “That doesn’t count as true believers. It’s harmful for developing faith. You can’t count them.”
Silver Coin laughed, “No worries. I only gave out slots equal to a quarter of the total population to Old John and the others.”
“Ah? Why?” Negris asked, puzzled.
“Who wants to endure poverty when they can’t tolerate inequity? Imagine, when Cowman Aunt is dragging people at the marketplace entrance. She only offers a beet for recruitment, yet people crowd her to the point of squeezing her flat. Now, we give a bag of grain and seeds, with limited spots. Just think how packed it will get, and how the ones who miss out will feel?” said Silver Coin.
That’s right. Shunning a good deal is for imbeciles. Those who missed out will go to great lengths to get a piece of the pie. And those who got the advantage, seeing others struggling so hard for it, would find what they’ve received even more precious.
“But what if Old John and others hide the headcount and don’t lead the people to us? We don’t even know how many people there are?” Negris nitpicked.
“For every person Old John and Aji bring here, they get a referral fee of fifty copper coins. Why would they hide the number of people? They would likely exceed the target, probably even willing to stuff their wives over here,” Silver Coin explained.
As soon as Silver Coin finished speaking, he saw Aji hurriedly turning over with a ‘robust’ woman following him bashfully, just shyly following behind Aji, shy and hesitant to raise her head.
Aji could only introduce, “Lord, this is… this is…”
Aji stuttered several times, unable to proceed. He harbored some immature intentions towards the woman beside him but had not yet reached the point of piercing through their relationship. Several times he thought to boldly advance, but fear held him back at the last moment, apprehensive that failure would mean neither of them could return to their original standing.
However, Negris had no such considerations, listening to Aji’s stammering and simply asked, “Your wife?”
Aji glanced at the woman behind him, saw that she showed no objection nor resistance, and happily nodded, “Yes, yes, yes, my wife, my Sister-in-law Mary.”
“Aunt Mary? What a weird name, who names someone Aunt? Alright, alright, no need to explain, you go find her.” Negris pointed at the silver coin.
After signing the purchase-and-sale contract, in the name of the God of Business, guaranteeing to buy back whatever she grows, then giving her a bag of rations and seeds, this Aunt Mary walked back with high spirits and big strides.
Aji couldn’t keep up and had to call out to her softly to wait up, but Mary just swooped him up in one hand and hoisted him onto her shoulder, walking even faster, carrying two bags of rations and seeds in her other hand.
At the corner, Mary couldn’t help herself, smacked a kiss on his cheek, and then the sound of Aji’s silly, haha laughter could be heard fading into the distance.
A few old fellows showed an expression of a creepy uncle, contentedly saying, “Ah, such is the beauty of youth.”
“Did Lord Nage ever experience such youth?”
“Ah! I want to… never mind, I don’t care about you. Where did Ange go?” Negris was so furious he wanted to strangle someone, but after weighing each other’s strength, he grimly changed the subject.
“The Lord went to prevent the Light Disaster. Oh, right, to spread the faith, the Lord has transformed into Ascetic Monk An.”
…
Wearing a scarecrow hat, it’s estimated that no one, except for the Great Speaker, throughout the Alliance, could see through Ange’s real identity.
As the World Tree replaced the Lord of Life and other planes’ World Trees grew, Ange’s mental strength would continuously increase. Before long, probably the Great Speaker wouldn’t see through him either.
So to everyone else, Ange is just a man in a simple grey robe, with an expressionless face, wandering around the village. Initially, he came out to prevent the Light Disaster, but once he arrived outside, he found it seemed unnecessary.
This is a very tiny plane, possibly even smaller than the Divine Hammer Plane, where you can see from one end to the other at a glance.
Such small planes normally couldn’t retain air, and they lack the energy to get water moving, essentially making it impossible for life to survive upon them.
But the Void is so vast, full of wonders; even in an extreme environment like Eternity Road, some things manage to survive, as life finds its own way.
Though this plane is small, it has its unique features; crystal pillars protrude from the ground, unevenly jutting out dozens of meters high. Seen from the Void, the entire plane looks like a crystal sea urchin.
These crystal pillars break the ground up into many isolated fragments, rarely any continuous large areas, reducing the utility value of this tiny plane, eventually turning it to only be developed into a frontier outpost.
However, these crystals, in the current rampage of the Light Disaster, become a screen that blocks the majority of harmful rays, the harmful light mostly blocked, poses no harm of burning to animals and plants, at most, it just tans the skin a bit darker.
With the most troublesome issue resolved, Ange didn’t need to waste a World Tree. There was too little life on this plane, even if a World Tree seedling was planted, it was doomed not to grow big.
With free time on his hands, Ange strolled around the village of this crystal ‘sea urchin’ plane. And as he wandered, he suddenly realized something; isn’t this the best environment to plant a Chaos Tree?
Sunlight, diffused by the crystal, created a multitude of angles, ensuring that no matter where, the light could illuminate entirely. Planting a Chaos Tree here would mean not only the sun-facing side would produce Chaos Stones.
Ange quickly took out a few Chaos Tree seedlings, ready to try it out, but suddenly heard a voice ringing out: “Take your dirty money and get out of my house, I’m a follower of the Goddess of Dawn, I don’t believe in your God of Business, get out, get out, get out.”
