Chapter 1450: Chapter 1111: Do you believe in the God of Business?
Old John’s airship was leading the way upfront when Negriss couldn’t help but ask in a low voice, “He said their village is very small, probably not many people either, what are we doing there? Wouldn’t it be better to find a densely populated Master Plane and find the best channels to spread the word?”
Anthony curiously asked, “Is this how you’ve always spread faith?”
“Of course,” Negriss replied. “And you have to target the big city colleges too, otherwise they won’t understand a word I’m saying.”
Anthony sneered and sarcastically praised, “No wonder, impressive.”
“I know you’re criticizing me, so what’s wrong with my method?” Negriss asked, hands on hips.
Anthony explained, “Faith doesn’t require understanding. The most devout believers are often ordinary people who don’t understand a word of the Holy Code. Conversely, it’s the priests who are well-versed in the Holy Code that tend to be least devout. Hey, come to think of it, Lord Nage, you’re actually quite remarkable.”
“Ah? Really impressive?” Negriss’s face turned red, whether genuinely or pretentiously, he could still tell; it was rare for Anthony to compliment him so sincerely. Did he have some remarkable quality he hadn’t realized?
Anthony sighed, “The more knowledge people have, the more they argue. It’s amazing that you could ignite the Divine Fire of faith among a bunch of argumentative and questioning intellectuals.”
“That’s right, now you see how impressive it is,” Negriss said proudly, hands on his hips again. “So how do you spread faith?”
Anthony leisurely said, “Faith is hope for the weak. The flower of devotion can only bloom from suffering. If someone is about to starve to death, a piece of bread becomes his faith, his hope. If a person has experienced desperate suffering, a glimmer of hope can blossom into the most devout faith.”
“That’s why when I spread faith, I start from the most suffering places. In the large cities of the Main Plane, even beggars usually don’t starve to death, and it’s hard to cultivate devout beliefs.”
Anthony’s words reminded Negriss of Cowman Aunt. Indeed, back then, a bag of grain made her utterly devoted. Once her belly was round with food, no amount of extra grain could tempt her, she’d just gnaw on beets.
“But this guy’s village is just sparsely populated, it’s not particularly poor. They have an airship, so they shouldn’t be poor, right? One Demon Crystal is enough to support his whole family,” Negriss commented.
Anthony shook his head, “That’s not necessarily the case. Do you know who is the poorest at the Church of Light’s stations?”
Negriss shook his head.
“The poorest are the horse herdsmen. They tend to the horses, but the horses aren’t theirs. They have to feed the horses, and if the funding from above is delayed or even embezzled, they have to pay out of their own pockets. They absolutely can’t let the horses starve to death, or they’ll end up on the Fire Execution Frame.”
“It’s the same with these two guys, patrolling in airships, but the airships aren’t theirs. Routine maintenance costs money, adding Demon Crystals costs money, either they’re very rich or they’re very poor. Look at their clothes, do they look like they’re wealthy?” Anthony asked.
Negriss shook his head. In this regard, he could still tell the difference. Mainly look at the collar, the sleeves, the hem, and so on, as well as the hair, nails, shoes, etc. Rich people can dress plainly, but never dirty, disorderly, or ragged.
If the collar and sleeves are dirty and ragged, there’s a high chance that the person is both poor and lazy, not ruling out a small fraction of lazy rich people pretending to be poor, but if they’re lazy, it’s impossible to fake all the details perfectly, after all, they’re lazy.
Thinking this, Negriss couldn’t help but sigh, “Your experience really is extensive.”
Just as he said this, the airship in front suddenly slowed down, gliding smoothly for a while, and then came to a stop.
It wasn’t long before Old John’s embarrassed voice came through the Communication Array: “Uh… well… Lord, our airship ran out of Demon Crystals while chasing you, and now it can’t move. What should we do?”
Anthony and Negriss exchanged a glance, revealing a ‘just as we thought’ expression. Anthony replied through the Communication Array: “Then you come over here to direct, and I’ll tow your airship.”
“Ah? Okay, alright,” Old John responded with a hint of disappointment.
Without Demon Crystals, couldn’t your distinguished guest just provide some Demon Crystals? Why go through the trouble of hauling them over?
Unable to grasp the noble’s train of thought, Old John mumbled an agreement, but soon embarrassingly said, “Lord, we can’t get across, we can’t fly, could you possibly come over and pick us up?”
He managed to get across earlier by jumping from a nearing Airship, but now his Patrol Airship was out of Demon Crystals, and it simply couldn’t come over.
“Alright, I’ll come pick you up,” Anthony had his own reasons for wanting the other party to come over.
But as soon as he finished speaking, Durken, who was busy tinkering with something nearby, hurriedly said, “Use this, use this,” and rolled out a bizarre-looking Flying vehicle.
“Eh, isn’t this just like the Patrol Sky Flight vehicle that flashed white light from earlier? Why is it only half?” Negriss recognized the object immediately and exclaimed in surprise.
When they were intercepted by the border patrol earlier, among a bunch of Flying vehicles flickering with red lights, there were two that pulsated with the strong energy reaction of white light.
This type of white-light Flying vehicle had a very peculiar design – its main body was an ultra-long cannon barrel, with a tiny cockpit hanging from the rear end, making it resemble a little snail carrying a chopstick, the proportions entirely unbalanced.
Durken had been unable to take his eyes off it at first sight and had begun crafting on his own, squatting on the other side, taking up space on both sides of the Airship together with Ange.
Now what Durken pulled out was that tiny cockpit; climbing in was like entering a snail’s shell.
The cockpit had only two seats. After Anthony flew over, he left the cockpit with Old John and Aji, then flew back himself.
Old John and Aji obediently tied up the Patrol Airship and then flew back in the vehicle’s cockpit.
As soon as they entered the room, Durken asked, “What’s the name of that Flying vehicle carrying a cannon barrel?”
Old John looked bewildered at Durken and couldn’t help but turn to look back at the cockpit he had driven over, thinking to himself, You all have this thing, and you still want to ask its name?
Old John said, “My Lord, are you asking about the Patrol Sky Flight Cannon?”
“It’s called Patrol Sky Flight Cannon?” Durken murmured to himself, propping up his chin.
The King of Alchemy now showed signs of ‘Ange-ification’, often spacing out, lacking enthusiasm in other things but being utterly fascinated by various Alchemical Items.
That was because Durken found that this was a treasure trove of alchemy technology. Just any Mechanical Construct had many new technologies applied to it, like the unheard-of Patrol Sky Flight Cannon, which was essentially a flying Magic Crystal Cannon.
This new line of thinking opened up a new world for Durken, giving him an explosion of inspiration, as countless new ideas continuously emerged, so he quickly squatted back down.
Old John was not quite comfortable with this kind of otherworldly babbling and felt a bit at a loss, and Aji was even more overwhelmed, keeping his head down and hiding behind Old John since he walked in.
Suddenly, with his head bowed, Aji heard the sound of Demon Crystals colliding, a sound that emboldened him, and forgetting his fear, he instinctively looked up.
There in front of Anthony were several large burlap sacks, the topmost one open, with Anthony clutching a handful of Demon Crystals and letting them slide from his palm, crashing back into the sack, creating the cascading sounds.
With each Demon Crystal that fell, Aji swallowed hard, nearly choking himself with repeated swallows.
Anthony’s face revealed a warm and friendly smile: “Do you believe in the God of Business?”
