Xia Yanxi took a cab, all the way to the Xia Villa. No. It should now be called the house of Huo. 

Even though the memories of her mother would always be there, that man would never give it up. Huo Changsheng would never surrender the house to her.

It was lunch time and the house of Huo was rather merry. Today was the day Bai Wenxuan stepped into the house as Huo Shiyu’s fiance. 

Xia Yanxi stood at the doorstep, listening to the happy chattering from the outside. A look of surprise took over for a while. She shook her head, clearing the doubts she had in her heart. Instead of removing her shoes, she walked right into the living room. 

The house was filled with laughter and smiles, but the atmosphere changed instantly. Everyone was no longer wearing the same expression as before. It was as if Xia Yanxi was not a person welcomed there. Then again, she had never been welcomed. 

“Gosh! Sister! How can you not remove your shoes! Mom has just bought the Persian rug!” Huo Shiyu shrieked. Her hands were covering her mouth to complete the ensemble look of surprise, looking at Xia Yanxi as if she was a monster. 

Everyone in the dining room turned toward Xia Yanxi. Yao Manlian’s expression was a variation of different emotions. Bai Wenxuan was present then so it would be “out of character” if she scolded her. A smile erupted from her heavily powdered face, saying, “It’s fine. This is still her house. She can do whatever she wants.” 

Xia Yanxi scoffed without looking at her. She approached Huo Changsheng, took out the marriage certificate and placed it on the dining table. 

“I’m married now, and in accordance with the terms of agreement, twenty five percent of the shares are to be handed over to me.” 

The instant the certificate landed on the table, everyone’s faces changed to one of being flabbergasted. 

Dumbfounded and flabbergasted. 

Bai Wenxuan for one was rather special. The pair of chopstick in his hands was bent out of shape. His handsome face was twisted with anger. 

How could she get married in such a short period of time? 

He could not accept this! NEVER!

Huo Shiyu was the first to respond. She got up as when she wanted to have a look at the certificate, she wanted to see what kind of man would marry this sister of hers, but Xia Yanxi was quicker. She snatched the certificate from her prying eyes. 

“Sister, how can you treat marriage like it’s a game? How can you not discuss this with father and mother? We have never treated you like an outsider! Why are you doing this?”

Tears started filling her crystal-like eyes. Her tiny lips trembled, out of either fear, anger, or perhaps for the sake of completing her ensemble of a pitiful look. It was as if she actually cared for the well-being of Xia Yanxi, and did not want to see her destroy her own life. 

Xia Yanxi might hate her but she could not deny her talents in acting. Huo Shiyu could actually win an award for that distinctive look of hers. It was perfectly acted, and if Xia Yanxi did not know her true colours, she would have probably been fooled. 

“Huo Shiyu. Have you had enough. Please, don’t pull that act in front of me. I’m not here for you. Perhaps you should stop making that ape-like face in front of me, or I’ll start feeling sick and present my breakfast to you.” 

Snap! 

The air reverberated with a loud snapping sound. 

Bai Wenxuan had broken the pair of chopstick in his hands, sending a chill down Xia Yanxi’s spine. 

What was he going to do? Stand by Huo Shiyu? That same man who had sworn in front of her mother’s grave, to be with her for as long as he lived? That man was gone. 

They had been together for five years, and spent their entire childhood together. Some would say their relationship was built on an unshakable foundation but that foundation was, in reality, as fragile as the hymen she once had!
