Chapter 1039: 1038 you play running away from home
Wen Ran settled into the big sofa and gently said, “I have already showered and am ready to go to bed. Don’t worry about me; make sure you stay safe.”
Mo Xiuchen chuckled on the other end of the phone, his rich magnetic voice coming through the mobile, “Alright, I’m almost at the site. Ranran, you rest early. I’m hanging up now.”
Wen Ran hung up the phone, and in less than a minute, her phone rang again.
This time, it was Wen Jin calling.
A flicker of surprise flashed in her eyes as she pressed the answer button, “Hello, bro.”
“Ranran, I’ve booked the plane tickets for tomorrow to accompany you to D Country,” Wen Jin said, causing Wen Ran to pause momentarily, instinctively asking, “Bro, you’re so busy, how do you have time to travel abroad with me?”
“I’ve already arranged everything.”
“Actually, with Qing Feng and Qing Yang going with me, you don’t need to delay your work for me,” Wen Ran felt a bit guilty. Though she was pregnant, she was not yet cumbersome.
“It’s settled then. I’ll meet you at the airport tomorrow morning. You rest early,” Wen Jin said and then hung up the phone.
**
The next morning, while Wen Ran was brushing her hair, Mo Xiuchen called.
“Xiuchen, did you ask my brother to accompany me abroad?”
Wen Ran asked while continuing to brush her hair.
“Yeah, although Qing Feng and Qing Yang are going with you, I’m still not completely at ease. I originally wanted Ah Kai to go with you since he is a doctor and it would be better for him to be with you.”
“Ah Kai has some important surgeries these next few days, and he’s promised to give a lecture at Zhi Wei’s school, so I called Wen Jin. It was his own decision to go; I didn’t force him.”
“How are things on your side? Have all the people been rescued?”
Wen Ran had just gotten out of bed and hadn’t checked the news yet.
“Two people have been found, but the rest are still missing. Ranran, I’ve still got things to handle here, make sure you also stay safe.”
“I know, go tend to your business,” Wen Ran knew Mo Xiuchen had a lot to deal with, and she didn’t want to take up more of his time.
When they arrived at the airport, Wen Jin was already waiting there.
It had to be said, Mo Xiuchen was very thorough in his considerations. After all, Qing Feng and Qing Yang were just bodyguards; Wen Ran couldn’t possibly share everything with them.
But Wen Jin was different.
He was Wen Ran’s brother. Even after finding out they were not biologically related, their bond remained unharmed. If Wen Ran had any concerns, she could also discuss them with him.
This was much better than talking to Qing Feng and Qing Yang.
On the plane, Wen Jin took meticulous care of Wen Ran. During the nearly twenty-hour flight, he hardly slept. While Wen Ran was asleep, he quietly watched over her.
In D Country, the weather was very sunny.
They hadn’t informed Bai Xiaoxiao of their arrival beforehand.
After Qing Feng and Qing Yang took the luggage to the hotel, Wen Jin accompanied Wen Ran directly in a taxi to Bai Xiaoxiao’s apartment.
When the doorbell rang, Bai Xiaoxiao was cooking dinner, thinking it was Miqin, she ran out of the kitchen to open the door. Upon seeing Wen Ran and Wen Jin standing outside, her eyes widened in shock.
Joy spread through her heart, and the next second, she excitedly exclaimed “Ranran!” with a spatula still in her hand, rushing toward Wen Ran.
“Xiaoxiao, you’re still holding the spatula.”
Wen Jin pulled Wen Ran behind her, smiling gently at Bai Xiaoxiao.
Bai Xiaoxiao’s embrace missed its mark, and she frowned unhappily, but her displeasure quickly turned into a smile when she noticed Wen Ran’s slightly bulging stomach. She stepped aside and cheerfully said, “Come in, I’ll just go turn off the stove.”
Once inside, Wen Jin instructed Wen Ran to sit on the sofa while he followed Bai Xiaoxiao into the kitchen and told her, “Xiaoxiao, why don’t you go chat with Ranran? Leave this to me.”
“That doesn’t seem right.”
Despite saying it wasn’t right, Bai Xiaoxiao had already handed the spatula over to Wen Jin.
Wen Jin gave her a playful stare and waved his hand, signaling her to hurry out, and then he twisted the faucet to wash his hands.
Bai Xiaoxiao ran out of the kitchen, not forgetting to pour a glass of water for Wen Ran before sitting next to her, grasping her hand, and inspecting her belly closely. She murmured proudly and smugly to herself, “I’ll soon have a godson and goddaughter, oh my, it’s just like a dream.”
“How did you know?”
Wen Ran looked at Bai Xiaoxiao curiously, she didn’t remember telling her.
“I figured it out by counting on my fingers,” Bai Xiaoxiao said proudly, arching her eyebrows while reaching out to touch Wen Ran’s belly, “Ranran, godson, goddaughter, I’m your godmother.”
“Hello, godmother.”
The next second, she pinched her nose and pretended to speak like a baby.
Wen Ran couldn’t help but chuckle as she watched Bai Xiaoxiao amusing herself, then she swatted her hand away, saying, “Xiaoxiao, the baby is just over three months old, it doesn’t know who you are yet.”
“Of course, it does. My godson and goddaughter are exceptionally gifted; they just greeted me.”
Bai Xiaoxiao stared at Wen Ran’s belly as if it weren’t Wen Ran’s child but her own.
She wanted to continue playing, but the mobile phone on the coffee table buzzed loudly. Bai Xiaoxiao straightened up, picked up the phone, and said, “Ranran, remember that girl Miqin I mentioned last time who looks a bit like you? You’ll meet her soon.”
Wen Ran blinked her eyes and smiled gently as she softly answered, “Alright.”
Bai Xiaoxiao pressed the answer button, but her smile faded at the caller’s words.
“Xiaoxiao, something came up, and I can’t make it to your place.”
On the phone, Miqin’s voice carried a mix of slight coldness and a hint of apology, all set against a background of noisy chatter, seemingly child’s voices.
“Eudora, what happened?”
“Yes, Granny Wang’s grandson next door fell ill, and I’m helping to take him to the hospital. Xiaoxiao, I’ll explain later.”
Miqin hung up before Bai Xiaoxiao could respond.
Wen Ran saw Bai Xiaoxiao frowning and gently asked, “What’s wrong, can’t your friend make it?”
She hadn’t heard what Miqin had said, but seeing Bai Xiaoxiao suddenly unhappy, she guessed that it meant she couldn’t come.
Previously, Bai Xiaoxiao had said she definitely wanted to introduce her to Wen Ran, but during the Spring Festival, when he and Mo Xiuchen visited, Miqin had gone back home to take care of her mother.
Miqin was supposed to meet her today, but she had to help a neighbor’s kid and couldn’t make it again.
“Ranran, you and Eudora just don’t seem fated to meet. Her neighbor’s kid got sick, and she had to take him to the hospital, so she can’t come.”
“It’s okay, I’m not leaving tonight. This time, I’ll see your friend before I go back to my country.” Wen Ran smiled lightly, her comforting words easing the frown on Bai Xiaoxiao’s face.
“By the way, Ranran, why did you suddenly come to D Country, and with Brother Wen, no less? Where’s Mo Xiuchen, why didn’t he come with you? Don’t tell me he did something to upset you, and you’ve run away from home?”
