Chapter 1028: 1027 Naming the Baby
Qin Mu made a sound and walked to the window, opening it slightly to let the cherry fragrance drift in with the breeze. “Ah Kai is also Ranran’s brother, didn’t he just get fed up with matchmaking and decide to find someone to date on his own?”
Wen Jin strode forward, his gaze probing as he looked at Qin Mu, “Ah Kai’s matchmaking, is it really Mo Xiuchen’s doing?”
He had suspected this before but had kept it to himself without asking.
“You’re on your own now, or else you wouldn’t be able to escape the fate of matchmaking,” Qin Mu didn’t directly answer his question.
“What about you, how’s your matchmaking going? Ah Kai started dating later than you, aren’t you planning on considering settling down?”
Wen Jin didn’t dwell on whether Gu Kai’s matchmaking was the work of Mo Xiuchen anymore.
“I’ve given my mom authorization to find a daughter-in-law she’s satisfied with and bring her home,” Qin Mu replied with a faint smile on his lips.
Wen Jin twitched his mouth, shooting him a disdainful look.
Downstairs, An Lin saw that Wen Jin and Qin Mu had gone upstairs and didn’t want to disturb Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran, so she quickly said, “I’ll go upstairs too,” and hurried into the villa.
“Ranran, let’s go for a walk outside,” Mo Xiuchen said, glancing towards the living room. He raised a hand to tuck the hair beside Wen Ran’s ear and his distinctly-knuckled large palm held her soft little hand.
Outside the villa was a three-meter-wide asphalt road lined with camellias. At this time, the camellias were in full bloom, and the wind brushing past the nostrils carried a faint scent of flowers, refreshing the heart and mind.
Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran walked hand in hand along the asphalt road, one with a smile and eyes filled with tender indulgence, gazing gently at the person by his side, while the other had soft eyes, smiling faintly with her face slightly tilted up.
From afar, it was a scene so beautiful that it was hard to disturb.
“Ranran, didn’t you say before that you wanted to hear about my childhood?” Mo Xiuchen’s voice was low and magnetic, very pleasant to hear.
Wen Ran’s smile deepened as she looked into his eyes, filled with love, “Yes, you talk; I’ll listen.”
Before, when he hadn’t regained his memory yet, she had said she wanted to hear about his childhood once he remembered.
“When I was little, this countryside didn’t have many small western-style buildings, mostly single-story houses. Nearby, my grandmother’s house was the most beautifully built,” Mo Xiuchen’s deep eyes gazed towards the horizon, and in the twilight, an ancient scene emerged before them, his deep voice infused with memories of his childhood drifting lightly to Wen Ran’s ears. “As a child, I really liked to visit my grandparents’ place. My grandpa would take me to catch fish, crayfish, and crabs by the small river, and we’d go into the mountains to hunt…”
Listening to Mo Xiuchen recount his childhood adventures, Wen Ran’s gentle gaze grew even deeper, imagining his younger, clever, mischievous, and yet lovable self.
“Once, a crab clamped onto my hand, and no matter how much I shook, I couldn’t get it off. Grandpa had to put my hand in the water before the crab finally let go. Another time, I was climbing a tree to get to a bird’s nest and fell down, but grandpa caught me steadily, breaking his own hand,” Mo Xiuchen led Wen Ran to a gazebo ahead and sat down with her on a marble bench in front of it, his long arm encircling her waist, holding her close.
“You really were a handful as a child,” Wen Ran teased.
Mo Xiuchen laughed heartily, “Yes, I was quite a handful. I preferred the countryside over living in the city, but my dad didn’t like me coming here, saying I always got hurt.”
At this, Mo Xiuchen’s smile faded slightly, his voice softening, “As a child, he was good to me, always saying he wanted to train me as his successor and made me learn all sorts of things. It was only here with my grandparents that I could be like a child.”
“No wonder you love your grandparents’ place.”
Wen Ran’s voice carried a hint of heartache, for she always reacted this way upon hearing about his past injustices.
Mo Xiuchen interpreted the heartache in her tone and his lips curved into a tender smile. “Ranran, I’ll make sure our children never have to struggle too much and will compensate them with all the joys of childhood that we never experienced. Every weekend and holiday, we can come here to vacation.”
“Okay.”
A vision of a family picture sprang up before Wen Ran. “Xiuchen, do you think our kids will be good-looking?”
“Of course, our daughter will be as beautiful and adorable as you, and our son as handsome and charismatic as me,” Mo Xiuchen boasted unapologetically.
Wen Ran giggled at his tone, playfully scolding, “Then what shall we name our kids? I’m no good at naming; it’ll be all up to you.”
“Naming our children is such a daunting task, we could ask Dad; he is their grandfather after all.”
With that one sentence, Mo Xiuchen casually delegated the task of naming their son and daughter to his father-in-law. Wen Ran patted her belly, smiling, “That works, I can’t think of any names anyway, it feels so complicated.”
“We could keep it simple; just call them Mo One, Mo Two.”
“Are you sure you’re actually their father?” Wen Ran instantly turned stern, staring at Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Xiuchen wrapped his arms around her and laughed heartily, “Ranran, I think these names are really great; they save us from fretting over what to name them, no matter how many we have.”
Wen Ran’s lips twitched as she stared at Mo Xiuchen’s twinkling smile and said dryly, “And how many do you want?”
Mo Xiuchen put on a pensive look, then seriously counted, “Mo One, Mo Two, Mo Three, Mo Four… Mo Nine, Mo Ten all sound smooth.”
“Mo Xiuchen, are you a pig?”
Wen Ran widened her eyes in disbelief at Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Ten?
Even Mo One Hundred.
“Ranran, I’d take your place if I could, but unfortunately, that’s not possible.” His smile deepened, his eyes filled with indulgence.
But the underlying message seemed to be questioning who the real pig was.
“So you mean to say, I’m the pig?” Wen Ran pointed at her nose, feigning ferocity.
Mo Xiuchen laughed, capturing her hand and kissing it teasingly, “Ranran, if you’re a pig, I’ll be one right beside you.”
“Get lost, I’m not going to be a pig,” Wen Ran withdrew her hand, stood up, and walked out of the pavilion.
Mo Xiuchen chuckled joyfully behind her, caught up, and imperiously took her hand again. “Ranran, we can start picking out baby stuff now.”
“There’s no rush; it’s only three months along. We have time to choose when it’s five or six months.”
“Won’t it be too late by then? I’ll have someone custom-make it, the crib, stroller, baby bottles… and a gift for the baby’s first meeting. Ranran, what do you think we should give?”
Mo Xiuchen asked Wen Ran earnestly.
