Chapter 1025: 1024 Next time, come and praise me
“I used to think my brother had a very good temper,” Wen Ran said with a slight frown as she put the strawberries she had picked into the basket Qin Mu was carrying. Qin Mu chuckled, “After seeing what happened at noon, do you think Ah Kai has a bad temper?”
“A little,” Wen Ran nodded earnestly.
Qin Mu couldn’t help but laugh, “Whether Ah Kai’s temper is good or not actually depends on the person. At least, in all the years I’ve known him, I’ve never seen him treat any woman so rudely.”
“Could it be because Bai Yiyi is Fu Jingyi’s daughter that my brother has always disliked her and been rude to her?”
“You definitely don’t think that way. If you did, you wouldn’t have come to ask me,” Qin Mu said, looking at her with understanding.
A flash of surprise crossed Wen Ran’s eyes, “Qin Mu, you’re too smart.”
Qin Mu’s lips curved into a smile, “Then, why do you think Ah Kai dislikes Bai Yiyi?”
After thinking for a moment, Wen Ran said, “Bai Yiyi is an unwed mother, you know that, right? Her friend Li En told me something before, implying that the biological father of Bai Yiyi’s daughter is someone I know. He even told me that I could pass the message along to that person that once he finds evidence, he will not let him off.”
Qin Mu’s long eyes narrowed slightly, and the smile at the corner of his mouth faded a bit.
“So, you think that Ah Kai is the person Bai Yiyi’s friend is investigating, right?”
Wen Ran nodded, “Mo Xiuchen asked Qing Yang and Qing Feng to investigate a while ago, and my brother had indeed had some grievances with Bai Yiyi before, I just don’t know what those grievances are…”
She told Qin Mu about the time when Gu Kai had gone to provide voluntary medical service in the countryside and Bai Yiyi had happened to be there on a trip.
“Ranran, that makes sense. I also thought Ah Kai’s behavior was strange at lunch today, but that’s between him and Bai Yiyi. Ah Kai is not the kind of man who shirks responsibility. If, and I mean if, Bai Yiyi’s daughter is really related to Ah Kai, then he will definitely take responsibility.”
“I hope I’m overthinking it.”
Wen Ran’s beautiful brows furrowed slightly, her brother and Bai Yiyi seemed to be at odds with each other; it was probably for the best that there was no relationship between the two.
“Don’t worry.”
Qin Mu smiled faintly, soothing her with a soft voice.
After a pause, he added, “You shouldn’t worry about anything right now. Just take good care of yourself. That’s the best for the baby’s health.”
“I know.”
A smile returned to Wen Ran’s face. She had simply wanted to find out what had happened between her brother and Bai Yiyi at noon, so she had come to ask Qin Mu.
“I’ll go next door and call Mo Xiuchen over to keep you company. Knowing how anxious he gets about you, he’ll start worrying if he doesn’t see you in a while.”
Qin Mu teased her and turned to leave the greenhouse, heading next door to bring Mo Xiuchen back.
“Ranran, you rest for a while. I’ll pick.”
Mo Xiuchen arrived quickly. He walked up to Wen Ran, pulled her up from where she was squatting on the ground, and gently brushed the stray hair from her forehead, tenderly instructing her.
“The doctors say it’s good to keep active, as long as you’re not too tired.”
“You don’t need to work so hard to stay active. After we finish picking strawberries, I’ll walk you back to the villa.” Mo Xiuchen’s eyes were filled with doting love and concern.
Picking strawberries required bending over, and it wasn’t as if she had to stay bent over continuously. Ranran picked one, walked forward, and then stood up again. It was indeed hard work.
At least, in the eyes of Mo Xiuchen, a man who cherished his wife more than life, it was hard work.
“If Haochen’s employees saw their handsome and intelligent CEO picking strawberries for me, they might think I’m mistreating you.”
Wen Ran stood to the side, watching Mo Xiuchen seriously select the best strawberries and place them into the basket, and she couldn’t help but laugh and tease.
Mo Xiuchen looked up and flashed her a smirk, pride resonating in his magnetic, pleasant voice, “They will only admire their CEO more for being a good man.”
“Pfft!”
Wen Ran couldn’t contain her laughter, walked forward two steps, and reached out to take the basket he was holding, “Mo Xiuchen, you should leave these kinds of compliments for others to say, or else it might seem like bragging.”
“Fine, next time you can praise me.”
Mo Xiuchen commanded, without a hint of modesty.
“Ranran, do you need help?”
Behind her, Wen Jin’s voice came through, and Wen Ran turned to look just in time to see him walking over with a smile, taking the basket from her hands, and scolding Mo Xiuchen dissatisfiedly, “You really shouldn’t let Ranran do this kind of heavy work.”
“There are hardly any strawberries in the basket,” Mo Xiuchen frowned. “Didn’t you go to Ah Kai’s shed? Why did you come back here?”
“I didn’t want to be a third wheel over there.”
Wen Jin’s comment was met with a cold sneer from Mo Xiuchen, “As if you being here isn’t being a third wheel.”
“Of course not.”
Wen Jin raised his eyebrows, his reply full of conviction.
His gaze swept over Wen Ran’s slightly protruding belly as he added, “I came to accompany my little nephew and niece.”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips twitched, “They don’t need your company.”
“I think Ah Kai and Fang Zhiwei might really end up getting married, what do you guys think?” Wen Jin ignored Mo Xiuchen’s comment and swiftly changed the subject.
“Ah Kai has always intended on marrying out of this relationship, and the way Fang Zhiwei looks at him is obviously affectionate. In short, if Ah Kai is willing to marry, Fang Zhiwei will surely agree.”
Mo Xiuchen analyzed simply; of course, he wasn’t speaking for Wen Jin, but rather for Ranran.
Even if Ranran hadn’t told him before, Mo Xiuchen could see from today that Fang Zhiwei’s attitude towards Gu Kai was one of affection.
Wen Jin didn’t disagree with his analysis and said thoughtfully, “Ah Kai seems to be rather distracted with Zhiwei. He started dating her out of frustration from being pressured into matchmaking by Uncle Gu.”
He was a bit puzzled.
Before, Gu Kai had claimed how fearless he was about his father’s matchmaking attempts–scaring off one prospect after another, completely unaffected.
Yet all of a sudden, he had gotten serious.
If he actually liked Zhiwei that would be one thing, but having observed them for hours today, Wen Jin hadn’t detected a trace of affection from Ah Kai towards Zhiwei.
“Weren’t you just at their greenhouse? How were Gu Kai and Fang Zhiwei getting along?”
Mo Xiuchen glanced at Wen Ran, and seeing that she wasn’t speaking up, he casually asked.
“They got along fine; Zhiwei was very enthusiastic and proactive, Ah Kai rather distracted,” Wen Jin briefly summarized what he had witnessed.
Their conversation hadn’t lasted two minutes when Gu Kai’s voice drifted over from outside the greenhouse, “Mo Xiuchen, Ranran, I’m heading back to G City first. If you guys don’t want to go back tonight, just stay over and return tomorrow.”
“Why the rush?”
Wen Ran walked over and saw Fang Zhiwei was also there, looking rather upset, “Did something happen?” She looked at Fang Zhiwei with concern.
“My dad’s chronic illness has acted up again. Ah Kai, actually I could drive back by myself, you could stay here with everyone else.”
