Chapter 1023: 1022 What are you here for?
“Fang Zhiwei really seems to like you,” Qin Mu remarked, glancing towards the direction of the private room, his tone indifferent.
“He was our high school classmate.”
Gu Kai exhaled a ring of smoke, the handsome features of his face obscured behind it. His eyes, as dark as ink, also seemed to carry a trace of the smoke, making them hard to read clearly.
Qin Mu raised an eyebrow, his tone incredulous, “A high school classmate? How come I don’t remember him at all? Could it be, you were interested in her before?”
Gu Kai looked up, giving Qin Mu a look that said ‘your imagination is really rich’, “How could that be? I never paid her any attention before.”
Just like Fang Zhiwei said to Wen Ran, until Gu Kai found Ranran, all his efforts were spent searching for his sister. And if he paid attention, it was to girls of Ranran’s age.
Not those of Fang Zhiwei’s age group.
Even if he had met her two or three times during their childhood, he had no recollection of her, and even his best friends were unaware of her existence. It was clear, he really had no interactions with Fang Zhiwei.
“She looks pretty good though, if you’re really willing to settle down, you could consider a relationship.”
Qin Mu’s lips curled into a faint smile. Neither of them were the type to dismiss responsibilities or remain single for life if they couldn’t find true love.
“Have you been going on matchmaking dates recently?”
Gu Kai shifted the conversation to Qin Mu, wondering if he could finally move on from Ranran, now that he was in City C.
Qin Mu’s eyes flickered, “I’ve been too busy lately to have the energy for matchmaking; I’ve let my mom decide for me.”
“Letting your mom decide, Ah Mu, are you out of your mind?” Gu Kai asked incredulously, but Qin Mu simply laughed, “Ah Kai, if you let Uncle Gu decide for you, I guarantee he wouldn’t randomly choose a woman to be your wife.”
“…You’re really crafty.”
Gu Kai suddenly understood, the shocked look in his eyes immediately turning into disdain.
That’s the reason.
Qin Mu responded nonchalantly, “It’s strategy. My mom used to nag me everyday about matchmaking, she was so eager she’d have me marry any girl. But after I let her make the decision last time, she became pickier than me.”
“Ah Mu, be careful, if your mom learns of your scheme, she might actually marry you off to some woman.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
Qin Mu took a deep inhale of his cigarette and threw the remaining half into a nearby trash bin.
The smoke he exhaled rapidly dispersed, his stern face bearing little emotion, as cold as ever, “It’s just about carrying on the family line. As long as she treats my parents well, I can accept her.”
After all, if it’s not the person he wanted, who it was didn’t really matter.
“Maybe, in a year or two, you won’t think this way anymore.” Gu Kai’s brow furrowed, understanding from Qin Mu’s words that he hadn’t moved on from Ranran yet.
He was indifferent about whom he’d spend his life with.
As they were talking, Gu Kai’s expression suddenly changed; his handsome brows knit together as he stared ahead with a cold gaze.
Qin Mu turned his head in confusion and upon seeing the woman walking towards them, his eyes shifted subtly while he glanced at Gu Kai from the corner of his eye.
Bai Yiyi, upon meeting Gu Kai’s eyes filled with anger, internally cursed, ‘What bad luck, to run into this man before even reaching the private room.’
“What are you doing here?”
Gu Kai frowned at the approaching woman, his tone cold and questioning.
Bai Yiyi continued walking forward as if she hadn’t heard, and just as she passed him, Gu Kai grabbed her wrist, “Bai Yiyi, are you deaf?”
“You’re the one who’s insane. What I do is none of your business, let go.”
Bai Yiyi also glared angrily at Gu Kai.
“Of course it’s my business–are you looking for Ranran?”
Gu Kai held onto her tightly, his eyes, sharp with irritation, worsened his mood whenever he saw Bai Yiyi.
“So what if I am, Gu Kai–you are you, and Ranran is Ranran. Can you not confuse the two?”
Bai Yiyi looked at Gu Kai, speechless.
Wasn’t he just afraid that Ranran would find out about that night? If she wanted to spread the word, it wouldn’t be a secret by now.
“Anyway, stay away from Ranran.”
Gu Kai looked coldly at Bai Yiyi and warned.
Actually, it had nothing to do with Ranran.
It was just that he didn’t want to see Bai Yiyi; if possible, he even hoped that Wen Jin would fire her. Only if Bai Yiyi didn’t interact with anyone close to him would there be fewer chances of her appearing before him.
Qin Mu watched Gu Kai and Bai Yiyi’s conversation from the side, his mind brimming with confusion.
As they were arguing, the door of a private room opened, and Wen Ran and Fang Zhiwei came out. Wen Ran’s eyes flashed with surprise when she saw Gu Kai and Bai Yiyi not far away.
“Let go of me first.”
Seeing that Wen Ran had come out, Bai Yiyi’s expression changed and she reproached Gu Kai in a low voice.
Gu Kai turned his head, saw Wen Ran and Fang Zhiwei, and his eyebrows furrowed. He immediately let go of Bai Yiyi’s hand.
It wasn’t just Wen Ran who saw them; Fang Zhiwei, standing next to her, also caught the scene of Gu Kai and Bai Yiyi struggling. A hint of confusion flashed in her mind, and she pursed her lips.
As the two approached them, stopping a few steps away, Wen Ran smiled and spoke, “Yiyi, you came up, why didn’t you go into the private room?”
As she spoke, she explained to Gu Kai, “Brother, I ran into Yiyi upstairs earlier. I asked her to come up later and join us.”
Gu Kai changed the subject, asking, “Where are you two headed?”
“Ranran wanted to go to the restroom, I’m accompanying her,” Fang Zhiwei took over softly, her eyes smiling gently as she looked at Gu Kai.
“Ranran, is this lady a friend of yours?”
Fang Zhiwei’s gaze lingered on Gu Kai for two seconds, then turned to Bai Yiyi, offering her a polite smile.
Wen Ran nodded, introducing with a smile, “Yes, Yiyi is my friend. Yiyi, this is my brother’s girlfriend, my future sister-in-law.”
“Hello, my name is Bai Yiyi.”
“Fang Zhiwei.”
The two shook hands. Bai Yiyi felt slightly surprised and glanced at Gu Kai out of the corner of her eye. Seeing his expression a bit rigid, she smiled and gently explained, “Miss Fang, because Doctor Gu has some misunderstandings about me, he just now stopped me from looking for Ranran.”
No wonder he didn’t allow her to go to the private room.
Bai Yiyi inwardly scorned Gu Kai bitterly, saying he forbade her from getting close to Ranran, but in reality, he was probably worried that his girlfriend would find out something.
She didn’t have the energy to break up his match.
Fang Zhiwei’s eyes flickered slightly, then turned back to look at Gu Kai. He met her inquiring gaze, merely pursing his lips, showing no intent to explain.
“Miss Bai, I’m sorry, Ah Kai is probably just too anxious about Ranran,” Fang Zhiwei said hesitantly, apologetically.
Bai Yiyi smiled indifferently, telling Wen Ran, “Ranran, initially, I wanted to go to the private room and greet everyone, but now that I’ve seen you, I won’t go in. Elder Brother Li is still waiting for me downstairs. I’ll go down first.”
