Chapter 1018: 1017 has liked it for a long time

The next day, as Wen Ran was having breakfast, she received a call from Bai Yiyi.

“Ranran, yesterday your brother Wen Jin gave me a call, and I’ve decided to go for an interview today. If I get the job, I’ll stay.”

Listening to Bai Yiyi’s cheerful voice, Wen Ran’s face blossomed into a radiant smile, “Yiyi, you’ll definitely get the job. What time is your interview? If I hadn’t already promised my brother to go with him on a blind date, I’d be heading to the pharmaceutical factory.”

Towards the end, Wen Ran’s words carried a hint of regret.

“Go on a blind date with your brother?” Bai Yiyi repeated her sentence with confusion over the phone.

Wen Ran’s eyes twinkled as she laughed and said, “Yes, my brother Gu Kai said he wants to find me a sister-in-law soon, so he’s asking me to join him.”

Seemingly afraid that Bai Yiyi wouldn’t know which brother she was referring to, Wen Ran made sure to include his name.

“Then go with your brother on his blind date. I’ll tell you how the interview goes afterwards,” Bai Yiyi didn’t ask further.

At half-past nine in the morning

Gu Kai came to pick up Wen Ran from their home and the two arrived at a teahouse where Gu Kai had arranged to meet.

“Brother, what time did you set your meeting for?”

They arrived before Fang Zhiwei did.

Glancing at the time, Gu Kai said, “Ten more minutes. Fang Zhiwei is a teacher in the Medical Department at T University. She’s rushing over after her class.”

“Brother, did you know Fang Zhiwei before?”

The waiter brought over some pastries and milk tea. Wen Ran took a sip and casually asked.

Gu Kai leaned back lazily into the chair, his handsome features exuding an air of languor. Smiling faintly at Wen Ran’s question, he explained warmly, “Mm, I met her a couple of times when we were kids. Fang Zhiwei’s father and our dad were friends.”

“You didn’t used to have a crush on her, did you?”

Wen Ran let her imagination run wild; she genuinely hoped her brother would find someone he liked.

Not just to get married for the sake of marriage.

Gu Kai chuckled, “Ranran, have you been watching too many TV dramas? I met Fang Zhiwei as a kid, and the last time we met was over a decade ago. If I had liked her, do you think I would have waited until now?”

“It’s fine, you might not have fallen for her before, but who knows, you might fall for her when you see her today.”

Wen Ran laughed heartily, after all, they had met before and knew each other well.

A few minutes into their chat, a woman walked into the teahouse, and Gu Kai said to Wen Ran, “That’s her.”

Following Gu Kai’s gaze, Wen Ran indeed saw a woman in a green dress, with her golden curls casually tied up, approaching them.

The woman was very beautiful, with delicate features and an elegant smile.

After sitting down, Fang Zhiwei took the initiative to introduce herself. Having known Gu Kai before, despite ten years without meeting, she was more familiar with him than with Wen Ran, who she was meeting for the first time.

“Ranran, you don’t mind if I call you that, right? I’m four years older than you. In high school, I was classmates with your brother. If you’re willing, you can call me Sister Wei,” Fang Zhiwei said, smiling radiantly at Wen Ran.

Last night, it was Gu Kai who had called her personally to arrange the meeting for today, so Fang Zhiwei was straightforward in her approach.

“So, Sister Wei and my brother were high school alumni, huh? That really is quite fated,” Wen Ran said with a grin, glancing at Gu Kai.

Gu Kai’s lips curved into a smile, his impression of Fang Zhiwei was a bit better than those from previous blind dates. He had been closely observing her while she was conversing with Wen Ran.

Seeing that Fang Zhiwei was kind to Ranran, he took a shine to her.

Gu Kai politely asked Fang Zhiwei what she liked to eat, then summoned the waiter and ordered some pastries. Fang Zhiwei requested a milk tea, the same as Wen Ran’s.

Since Fang Zhiwei was also studying medicine, she and Gu Kai had quite a bit to talk about.

Not only that, but she also offered Wen Ran some pregnancy advice.

The meeting went very pleasantly, and about an hour later, Gu Kai received a call from the hospital informing him of an emergency surgery that required his return.

“You go ahead, I will make sure Ranran gets home safely.”

Gu Kai spoke with an apologetic tone; it seemed he always had to rush back to the hospital at the last minute, leaving Ranran behind.

This was not the first time.

After Gu Kai left, Fang Zhiwei candidly admitted, “Ranran, actually, I’ve liked your brother for a long time.”

Wen Ran heard this and her eyes widened in surprise.

Fang Zhiwei laughed instead, “Ranran, did I scare you? I just mentioned that I was a schoolmate of his in high school. It was during that time I fell for him.”

“That early?”

Wen Ran was momentarily stunned.

Fang Zhiwei nodded openly, “Yes, back then, he along with Mo Xiuchen, Luo Haofeng, and Qin Mu, were the celebrities of our school…”

After hearing Fang Zhiwei recount her youthful infatuation with Gu Kai, Wen Ran felt somewhat moved, “Sister Wei, then why haven’t you ever told my brother?”

“Your brother is an incredibly proud person; there were enough girls confessing to him to circle around our school, but he never accepted any of them. Later, I learned from Shen Yuting that Gu Kai once vowed that until he found his missing sister, he wouldn’t date anyone.”

Wen Ran’s eyes subtly shifted.

Deep inside, something seemed to sting, spreading a faint ache that couldn’t quite be described.

“I never knew that my brother refrained from dating because of me.”

“Ranran, I’m telling you this, not to make you feel guilty or sad, but because I truly envy you for having such a wonderful brother. Also, I’m proud that the man I’ve always liked is so outstanding.”

Fang Zhiwei smiled reassuringly, then pursed her lips and added, “Ranran, could you keep what I’ve just said between us?”

“Why keep it a secret? Liking my brother isn’t something shameful.”

“It’s not shameful, but I’m afraid that if he knew I liked him, he might not want to see me anymore.” Fang Zhiwei feigned lightheartedness, smiling, “Last night, your brother called me to ask if I was willing to give it a try with him.”

“He’s so direct?”

Wen Ran felt puzzled. She still couldn’t understand why her brother suddenly agreed to a blind date and even proactively suggested that a girl date him.

Fang Zhiwei nodded with a smile, “Yes, your brother has always been a direct person, so I don’t want him to know that I’ve actually liked him for a long time.”
