Chapter 1135: Chapter 1135: This Farewell Is Forever
Jasmine Yale was eating hotpot, feeling warm and cozy.
The living room was also filled with fragrance and warmth.
Yukon Carbon stopped mentioning the matter and instead chatted with her about the scenery in Chicago and Old York, even considering her winter break plans.
Yukon’s understanding of Jasmine was not extensive, but he always trusted his own judgment.
He was an adult, not a child, responsible for his own actions and endowed with his own rational cognizance.
He accompanied her in conversation until after the meal.
In the afternoon, the sun shone brightly.
Warm rays of light poured in through the window, casting a light gold hue across the floor, on the white carpet.
After eating, Yukon returned to the bakery without staying any longer.
Jasmine sat holding Sweet Kitty, with a hint of confusion in her eyes.
Some things, if never known, would not stir ripples or fluctuations in the heart.
She rummaged through the cabinet and found that black-and-white ID photo.
The photo that Sylvan Cheney had torn to pieces was painstakingly put back together by her, but it could never be restored to its original state.
This was the only picture of her father and the only thing left by her mother.
The repaired photo showed the cracks, yet could not hide the youthful elegance of the man in the picture.
She always kept the photo sandwiched in her notebook, very carefully.
Inside the notebook was also a photo of herself, which Sylvan inadvertently left behind last time.
Cora Jorney said her father was still alive.
That is to say, she still had relatives alive in this world.
She had thought herself utterly alone, but unexpectedly, there was still someone related by blood.
This person was her biological father.
What did he look like? Was he like the man in the photo?
Regardless, he was the person her mother loved the most.
From the few words in her mother’s notebook, she could see that her mother loved him deeply.
It was only because of the Cheney family’s persecution that her parents were forced to separate–a separation that lasted a lifetime.
Her father would never see her mother again.
Was this a cycle of retribution?
The Ximenez family killed a member of the Cheney family, and in the end, the Cheney family made sure the Ximenez family didn’t have it easy either.
Nothing is more cruel in this world than a family torn apart.
And when torn apart, it meant for a lifetime.
Falling into the hands of Sylvan Cheney, her father must have… had no good end.
Jasmine sat on the bed, her hands clenching the soft down comforter.
Her heart fluctuated wildly, unable to calm down.
The more she clenched the comforter in her hands, the tighter her grasp became.
Sweet Kitty seemed to sense that something was wrong with Jasmine’s mood, scratching the bed and meowing anxiously.
Jasmine’s head hurt.
Taking a long nap on a winter afternoon couldn’t be more comfortable, yet she didn’t feel like sleeping at all.
Should she… return to Landon?
This idea grew heavier and incessantly stirred her thoughts.
The more she thought about it, the more restless she became.
Jasmine took out her phone and dialed Sylvan Cheney’s international number.
Nobody answered.
Then she tried his domestic number.
To her surprise, Charles Mcintosh picked up.
“Miss Yale?”
“Mr. Mcintosh, is Mr. Cheney there?”
“He’s not.”
“When will he be available? I need to speak with him.”
“If you have something to say, you can tell me, and I will relay it to Mr. Cheney,” Charles spoke evenly.
Jasmine found it impossible to speak to Charles.
She knew that Charles’s father was one of the victims in that massacre; how could she possibly bring herself to say it.
Charles was Sylvan’s most trusted man; he must have long been aware of her identity.
And yet, Charles’s tone remained gentle and courteous towards her, which only intensified her guilt.
