Chapter 1131: Chapter 1131: Her Father is Still Alive Chapter 1131: Chapter 1131: Her Father is Still Alive Jasmine Yale was momentarily stunned, but her expression quickly regained composure.
“So…” She showed little emotion.
“Haven’t you ever wondered about your biological father?” Cora Jorney looked at Jasmine Yale, her face even calmer than Jasmine’s.
Even her eyes were utterly still, without a ripple.
Jasmine’s heart skipped a beat.
She then said indifferently, “Professor Jorney, please speak clearly about what you want to tell me. I’m rather slow, and if you don’t make it clear, I won’t understand.”
Deep light shimmered in Jasmine’s bright eyes as she intently stared at Cora Jorney, eager to know what she would reveal.
During her time abroad, she had not sought out her biological father.
Firstly, she lacked the means, and secondly… her heart was uneasy.
Moreover, since Sylvan Cheney had told her that her father was already dead, she was even more frightened to search for him.
If she found only a pile of bones or a cold tombstone, it might be better not to know the truth.
“I heard that Mr. Cheney was quite ‘generous’ to your biological father,” Cora Jorney also gazed at Jasmine Yale.
“What do you mean? My biological father is long dead,” she retorted.
“Don’t you know there’s a punishment called ‘better off dead’? Such punishment might better extinguish the hatred in one’s heart.”
“Where did you hear that? Don’t make irresponsible remarks. No matter what, you’re a university professor, you should know spreading rumors is illegal,” she challenged.
Jasmine’s emotions surged, her chest heaving.
She knew Cora Jorney’s husband had access, capable of uncovering secrets others couldn’t.
It all depended on whether he was interested in investigating or not.
“I don’t know much, you needn’t see me as an enemy. I am just kindly informing you that your biological father is still alive. If possible, you should perhaps show some filial piety,” said Cora Jorney lightly. “You should probably thank me. If I hadn’t told you, would you ever have the chance to know that your biological father is still alive?”
“Is he in Sylvan Cheney’s hands?”
“You should ask Mr. Cheney about that question, since you don’t seem to trust my words,” she suggested.
Jasmine’s mind momentarily went blank, as if struck by a stone, completely empty.
Chaotic phrases darted through her mind, like a tangled thread that she couldn’t begin to unravel.
Previously, Sylvan Cheney had told her that both her father and her twin brother had died.
She had no capability to verify Sylvan Cheney’s words, nor did she have the courage to confront him.
And she truly lacked any clues.
Now, Cora Jorney was telling her that her father was still alive.
Could it mean that her brother was also still alive?
“I have no interest in your father; I’m purely curious. Having heard some things, I thought I’d tell you since I met you today. After all, it seems rather melancholic for someone not to know that their biological father is still alive,” she said.
Cora Jorney’s expression remained utterly calm, as if discussing something unrelated to her.
And her intent was purely out of goodwill to inform Jasmine Yale that her biological father was still alive.
“Jasmine Yale, the tree wishes to stay still, but the wind will not cease; a child wishes to support, but the parents are not waiting. Your father is no longer young, isn’t it rather unfilial if you cannot let an elder enjoy his twilight years?” she posed rhetorically.
“What else do you know?” Jasmine demanded.
“As I said, I’m not interested in your father. I am simply telling you from a familial perspective that he is still alive. Other than that, I’m not aware of anything,” Cora Jorney replied, her hands steadying a pushcart.
