Turning her head, she saw an elderly auntie with half-white hair kindly advising her, and Xie Wanying repeatedly thanked her, “Thank you, Auntie.”

“You’re welcome.” The other party smiled and said to her.

Looking at the other party’s face, Xie Wanying’s memory conjured a similar figure: Had she seen this aunt somewhere before?

The other party was dressed simply, with neatly combed hair and clean clothes, a kind face, and both charisma and depth–presumably a medical college teacher.

“What happened to your face?” While she was observing the other party, they were equally attentive to the conspicuous Gentian Violet on her face and asked, “It doesn’t seem like an injury?”

“It was accidentally stained with Gentian Violet, and no matter what, I can’t wash it off.” Xie Wanying was truly troubled by this and confessed the truth to the kind stranger.

The elderly auntie laughed after hearing her predicament and said, “Let me think of a solution for you. Come to my home, and I’ll help you clean it. Don’t worry, it’s a small matter. My home is nearby, over there.”

The home the lady pointed to was the medical college staff dormitory building–it matched Xie Wanying’s conjecture that the woman was indeed a teacher.

“My last name is Lu.” Teacher Lu introduced herself and asked her, “What’s your name?”

“I’m Xie Wanying.”

“Xie Wanying.” Teacher Lu pondered her name for a moment, remembered something, then opened her mouth and laughed, “I’ve got it now.”

“Teacher, let me carry that for you.” Seeing Teacher Lu struggling with a heavy basket of groceries, Xie Wanying reached out and offered to help.

Without playing coy, Teacher Lu let her carry a bag of heavier fruit and cheerfully said, “Come to my place, and we’ll have some apples to eat.”

The two of them walked to the staff dormitory building number five and climbed to the third floor. Teacher Lu unlocked the door.

Upon entering the room, Xie Wanying saw it was a rather spacious apartment, a three-bedroom and two-living room layout, with everything neatly arranged and clean. The most interesting thing was a pile of ancient books being sunned on the balcony.

“Have a seat. I’m going to mix some liquid for you and see if we can remove the Gentian Violet on your face,” Teacher Lu said to her, inviting her to sit anywhere before she headed into the left study.

A short while passed, and someone rang the doorbell.

Standing in the living room, Xie Wanying’s eyes were suddenly drawn to a photograph on the antique rack.

It was the same photo she had seen at Senior Tao’s home, featuring two elderly people alongside Senior Tao and Senior Cao. The older woman in the picture was unmistakably Teacher Lu. No wonder she had found Teacher Lu’s face familiar.

The incessant doorbell kept ringing, with someone shouting to open the door.

The busy Teacher Lu called out from the study, “Who is it? Could you help me open the door?”

Hearing Teacher Lu’s voice, Xie Wanying snapped back to reality, walked to the door, and opened it to help Teacher Lu greet the visitor.

Opening the door, the person standing outside came face to face with her, and both of them showed surprise in their eyes.

“Why are you here?” Yu Xuexian adjusted his glasses, making sure he wasn’t seeing the wrong person.

“Senior Brother Yu.” Xie Wanying respectfully greeted him and said, “Teacher Lu is in the study.”

“When did you get here?” Yu Xuexian walked in while turning his head to give her a second look, clearly finding it very odd for her to be there.

“I encountered her on the road,” Xie Wanying explained briefly.

Teacher Lu came out of the study and, upon seeing the bag of rice in Yu Xuexian’s hand, questioned, “What are you doing bringing rice to my place?”

“They said you had run out of rice at home. I was on my way, so I thought I might as well bring a bag over,” Yu Xuexian said, and carried the bag of rice into the kitchen to check how much was left in the rice barrel and whether there was space to accommodate more.
