Chapter 398: Chapter 397 Invisible Eyes
In the night sky above White Stone City, a pair of invisible eyes scanned the area, as if searching for something.
Suddenly, they found their target.
The invisible eyes quickly descended, locking onto a battle that was part of a chase.
…
Chase, chase, chase…
Actually, the chase had gradually come to an end. Three Level One Wizards from the White Stone Tower, through relentless effort, had successfully cornered the fleeing enemy.
“Snap!”
“Huff–”
Baron stopped in his tracks, took a deep breath, gritted his teeth, and with a hint of mockery said to the enemy cornered in a nook, “Run, go on, keep running! I thought we might not be able to catch you. Turns out, you’re not as good as I thought. If I had known this, I wouldn’t have bothered calling for reinforcements and embarrassing myself.”
“Idiot–” The enemy, cornered and halted, responded indifferently after hearing Baron’s words, appearing not very tense; in fact… not tense at all.
The opponent was short in stature, more than a head shorter than an average person, but his presence was like that of a giant. He wore large iron earrings, which looked quite bizarre.
At this moment, the short man glanced at the three wizards from the White Stone Tower and shook his head slightly, “You really are a bunch of complete idiots! Do you really think I’m afraid of you? Leading you around the city like walking dogs was just to provoke you, provoke the White Stone Tower behind you, and to scout the situation. Now that my main objective has been achieved, you can all die.”
“Oh really, just you alone think you can kill all three of us?” Baron didn’t believe it. Although disbelieving, he didn’t lower his guard, sensing that this was a signal of desperate resistance from the enemy. He readied himself for defense, preparing to repel any attack.
The earring-wearing short man looked at Baron’s movements and curled the corners of his mouth upward, “An idiot is always an idiot. Since I said I’m going to kill you, do you really think you still have a chance to live? Heh, stop struggling, surrender and die quietly. You might suffer a bit less because… you have no idea what you’re up against.”
“Captain!” A hot-tempered White Stone Tower Wizard, infuriated by the earring-wearing short man’s audacity, yelled at Baron, “Captain, why waste words? Let’s take him down once and for all!”
Hearing this, the earring-wearing short man turned his head toward the speaking wizard, his eyes narrowed, a sharp look briefly flashed across them, and from his mouth came a few cold words, “Shut up! Kneel!”
“You!” The hot-tempered wizard became furiously enraged, almost launching an attack, but then his expression changed. One hand clutched at his chest, and he abruptly shuddered. With a “thump,” he fell to his knees on the ground, body trembling continuously, as if enduring immense pain.
This was!
“Bacchus! What’s wrong with you?!” The other two wizards from the White Stone Tower were shocked.
The earring-wearing short wizard turned his head and looked at the two, again uttering a few icy words, “You too, shut up! Kneel!”
Strangely enough, as the words of the earring-wearing short wizard were spoken, it was as if they carried some irresistible magic power. As soon as his voice fell, the remaining two wizards from the White Stone Tower clutched their chests and collapsed to the ground, convulsing constantly.
“Heh, an idiot is always an idiot.” The earring-wearing short wizard said disdainfully, looking at the state of the three wizards from the White Stone Tower. Then he looked up in the distance, and vaguely saw it seemed like many Black Shadows were searching and headed toward his location.
“They’re coming after me, huh? It’s just a bit… too late.”
The earring-wearing, short-statured wizard slowly withdrew his gaze and looked at the three wizards from White Stone Tower before speaking, “I originally… wanted to have a bit more fun with you, but since your reinforcements are about to arrive, I need to make a quick exit. Sorry to leave you like this, but do take a moment to savor the taste of death.”
With those words, the short wizard spread his arms wide, and visibly, his chest swelled like it was inflated, bursting his upper garment apart.
His chest continued to expand, the ribcage straining to its breaking point when suddenly, with a crack, it split apart like a bird spreading its wings, revealing the entire cavity within.
“Thump thump thump!”
The beating heart was unmistakably prominent in the cavity.
“Thump thump thump!”
The heart kept beating as a hand grew from below it, firmly grasping the organ and tightening its grip.
“Thump thump thump thump thump thump!”
The stimulated heart raced faster, but the hand became even tighter until finally, with a loud burst, it crushed the heart.
The heartless dwarf wizard seemed unharmed, but the three wizards from White Stone Tower staggered as if struck by lightning, a burst of blood mist exploding from their chests as if their hearts had been crushed in tandem.
The blood mist that erupted lingered in the air, swiftly coalescing back into the dwarf wizard’s chest, forming a new heart.
“Ah–comfortable–” The dwarf wizard exhaled, his split chest slowly closed, half-closing his eyes in complete contentment.
After a moment of enjoyment, the dwarf wizard opened his eyes, flipped his hand, and somehow produced a new shirt to wear. Glancing at the three White Stone Tower wizards who had been dead for some time, he shook his head lightly, turned, and sped toward a pitch-black direction, disappearing from view.
…
Not long after the dwarf wizard left, the main force of wizards from White Stone Tower arrived, and their faces all changed slightly upon seeing the gruesome scene on the ground.
Haimen stepped forward, bending down to inspect the three bodies, shaking his head and speaking darkly to everyone, “There is no saving them.”
“Damn it!” Gab, the wizard who had brought the news, expressed his hatred, “It must have been an ambush from the enemy that killed Baron and the others. We can’t let this go.”
“This matter, of course, cannot be let go!” Haimen stood up, his voice stern, “Every single act perpetrated upon us by them, on our White Stone Tower, will not be forgotten. We will find where they are hiding and make them pay in blood, taking the life of every single one of them!”
“What now…” Gab asked.
“Gab, you take a few people, transport the bodies of Baron Wizard and his companions back, and then find time for their burial,” instructed Haimen, then turned to look at all those who had followed, his gaze slowly sweeping across all the faces as if committing each to memory. He spoke, “As for the rest of you, considering the urgency and limited time, there’s no need to return to White Stone Tower. Right here, in this place where lives were sacrificed, at the scene where the remnants of the Black Spirit Empire displayed their Evil Power, let us continue the meeting that was interrupted before.”
“This…”
The next moment, before anyone could react, Haimen had already raised his voice, “I have decided to divide all those willing to participate into four groups to search the four regions of White Stone City…”
