Chapter 375: Chapter 374: The True Magic Salvo
What is he doing?
After sending Alex away, Richard pondered over this question incessantly.
He harbored doubts about the organization to which Suo Men and Mu Konni belonged, suspecting that, like the previous Black Spirit Empire, it might be plotting to eliminate other wizard organizations one by one, to unify the East Coast, and to establish a vast Wizard Empire.
Based on the current understanding of the opposing organization’s strength, it was possible they indeed had the capability to do so.
But, were they genuinely preparing to do so?
Richard reflected on this matter, then shook his head.
In truth, whether they were preparing to do so or not had little impact on him–he was not a person from the East Coast, nor was he from this world. The rise and fall of kingdoms, the power dynamics of wizard organizations, and the course of history had no bearing on him. As long as they didn’t deliberately trouble him or provoke him, he could remain detached, unaffected, and focus on researching what he wanted to investigate, studying what he wanted to learn.
His path and that of the organization to which Suo Men and Mu Konni belonged were like two separate lines.
There may have been contact, but he hoped that was the only intersection, after which they would grow increasingly distant and irrelevant to each other.
Yes, that would be best.
That would indeed be best…
…
The Inner Box World.
The new lab clusters here had undergone major upgrades to the lighting system after days of modifications by Richard.
Bulbs were installed one by one at the top of each lab and on the lab benches, bringing light to this dark world.
The lab clusters, magic testing functionality sector, Magic Testing Field.
This area was designed by Richard as a flat open space, with numerous humanoid targets of various materials standing at varying distances across it.
At each of the four corners of the open space, there was a high-power incandescent lamp, casting intersecting beams of light, causing Richard to cast four blurry shadows on the ground as he stood in the middle of the test field.
“Huff–”
Richard stood in the middle of the field taking a deep breath, squinting at the numerous test targets, contemplating a new idea he recently wanted to experiment with.
He practiced his spellcasting in the style of an Apocalypse Wizard, substituting Free Energy Elements for mana, which could reduce losses and speed up the release of spells. With spells cast through a magic rune, his casting speed far surpassed that of ordinary wizards.
But this did not mean that he would have an overwhelming advantage in combat.
To put it plainly, if casting spells were compared to firing a flintlock gun, an average wizard would be likened to an old-fashioned matchlock firearm. His way of casting as an Apocalypse Wizard could be likened to a revolver or flintlock gun, simplifying the steps and speeding up the firing rate. However, fundamentally, there was no difference–they were both muzzle-loading firearms, each requiring a reload after every shot.
This was not what he wanted.
According to his original idea of using the methods of an Apocalypse Wizard, he should be able to create a true Magic Salvo–relying on extremely high casting speed to unleash incomparable destructive power in an incredibly short time, demolishing all of the enemy’s defenses.
It was like lighting up a machine gun in the history of firearms, truly eclipsing the existence of all other firearms.
But how could he achieve that?
His casting speed was already nearing its limit; even with the most skilled spells channeled through a Magic Rune Ring, it would still take time. And after releasing one, he must release the next; it was nearly impossible to produce a true Magic Salvo effect.
What if… he used some method to cast spells together?
Or rather, not necessarily cast spells together, but make the spells appear to be cast simultaneously?
For instance, intentionally controlling multiple spells by activating Free Energy Elements one after another, and then having them all explode at the same time–wouldn’t that achieve the effect of a real Magic Salvo?
Richard pondered as he raised his hand.
His lips parted slightly, murmuring a spell.
“Gret…”
This time, Richard took a bit longer to cast his spell than usual, mainly because he was gathering a larger amount of Free Energy Elements than before and then carefully controlling their surge.
“Whoosh–Whoosh!”
Two balls of orange flames flew out one after the other, striking wooden humanoid targets tens of meters away, scorching a large area before extinguishing.
Shaping Energy Fire Magic*Zero-Circle Low-Level*Fiery Flame Impact!
“Ugh–”
After seeing the result, Richard’s eyes flickered as he muttered to himself, “No good, there’s a delay in time…”
Having finished speaking to himself, Richard didn’t give up, but lifted his hand again, recited the spell, and after a lengthy preparation, cast the magic for the second time.
“Swoosh–swoosh!”
Again, two balls of orange flame flew out one after the other, but this time the distance between them was shorter than the first, almost immediately striking the wooden target in succession.
“So…”
After observing the result, Richard lifted his hand for the third time and released the spell.
“Swoosh swoosh!”
This time, the two balls of orange flame flew out almost simultaneously, hitting the wooden target at the same instant, blasting off the target’s head.
Success!
Yes, it was a success, but this was only the simplest success. After all, two instances of Zero-Circle Low-Level Magic wouldn’t kill an enemy; it would require higher-level, more numerous spells to be cast at the same time to be effective.
“Huff–”
Taking a deep breath, Richard started moving his hands again.
He began trying to cast three instances of Zero-Circle Low-Level Magic, then four…
As the difficulty and number of spells increased, Richard became increasingly aware of the challenge of achieving his goal: he not only had to spend a long time mobilizing more Free Energy Elements but also had to ensure enough mental calculation capacity.
Because after gathering enough Free Energy Elements, it wasn’t enough to cast them out all at once; he needed to release them in a specific order, finely adjusting the state of each spell.
As the state of the spells would change with the environment, he had to perform even more calculations.
With the increase in the difficulty and number of spells, the amount of calculations would skyrocket, almost to the level of hellish difficulty.
However… Richard persisted.
Several days later.
In the Inner Box World, Magic Testing Field.
Richard stood ramrod straight, holding a short wand, eyes half-closed.
“Huff–huff–”
Richard’s subtle breathing, as the abundant mana inside him circulated, his brain continuing to calculate.
A moment later, Richard, holding the short wand, flicked towards the metal humanoid target; a flurry of sparks burst forth, much like a swarm of fireflies flying towards the metal target, then almost simultaneously covering the surface of the target.
Shaping Energy Fire Magic*Zero-Circle High Order*Single Ring Explosion!
“Boom!”
A multitude of explosions merged together, sending out an earth-shattering boom; the shockwave spread, the metal humanoid target completely engulfed in flames.
When the flames dissipated, only to reveal the metal humanoid target had become a boiling pool of molten metal, bubbling continuously.
“Huff–”
Richard exhaled deeply and, satisfied with the result, nodded approvingly. As he rubbed his temples to soothe the headache from overthinking, his mind was already turning over new ideas.
His test was clearly successful, but he could still improve, become more proficient and more powerful.
When the time came to evolve from a real magic salvo into a deluge of spells, even against an Official Wizard, he would have the confidence to contend.
With these thoughts in mind, Richard lifted his hand, grabbed the short wand, and began to test again.
“Boom…”
