Chapter 1847: Chapter 1827: Lin Yan Story Part 11_1 Chapter 1847: Chapter 1827: Lin Yan Story Part 11_1 “I can do it.”
Ye Zilin’s eyes showed determination, with a calmness and firmness uncommon for a nine-year-old boy.
“Zilin.”
Ye Yunzheng looked worried and wanted to persuade him again.
“Yunzheng brother, you don’t need to persuade me anymore.”
Ye Zilin waved his hand to interrupt him: “Becoming a disciple of True Master Chixia is my father’s wish, and I cannot disappoint him.”
“Sigh.”
Ye Yunzheng’s eyes dimmed, filled with guilt and regret. He had never hated himself more for bringing misfortune upon his Third Uncle’s family.
*
Three days later, Ye Zilin knelt in front of his parents’ tombstone, respectfully kowtowed three times, bade farewell to his relatives with his brother and sister, and left Lanshan Village.
His sister was very young, so he wrapped her up in a sheet, forming a makeshift sling that he tied to his chest.
Ye Ziyan was obedient and sensible, hugging her brother’s neck without crying or making a fuss.
Ye Zimo helped his big brother carry a basket on his back, filled with clothes, a medicine box, and the few remaining scattered silver coins left from their home.
The two brothers followed a mountain path, crossing mountains and valleys, braving wind and rain, traversing the Ridge Mountain Range, and heading northwest.
*
One month later, Ankang Town.
Ankang Town was located at the junction of the Ridge Mountain Range and the grassland, a must-pass area for the Western Region.
The town was quite prosperous, with a continuous stream of merchants traveling between Ankang and the Western Region.
Ye Zilin carried his sister, while Ye Zimo carried the basket on his back. The two brothers, disheveled and dressed in tattered clothes, walked through the streets of the town, attracting sideways glances from passers-by who avoided them.
Ye Zimo stopped in front of a small inn, rubbed his shriveled stomach, smelled the delicious aroma of meat, and took a deep breath.
“Where did these beggars come from? Get out of here, don’t stand at the door, bad luck!”
An inn waiter gave him a disdainful look and waved his hand to drive them away.
“We want a room.”
Ye Zilin’s eyes darkened, and a streak of murderous intent flashed in them.
“You want a room?”
The waiter sneered, but before he could ridicule them further, a cold light flashed, and a short sword was pressed against his neck.
“Young hero, spare my life, spare my life.”
His face turned pale with fear, and his legs trembled uncontrollably, almost falling to his knees.
“Take us in.”
Ye Zilin twisted his wrist and put away the short sword, kicking the waiter.
“Yes, yes.”
The waiter, scared out of his wits, stumbled and crawled into the inn.
*
The three siblings rented a room and took a bath to change their clothes.
Having tidied up, Ye Zilin asked Ye Zimo to look after their sister, and carrying the basket on his back, he walked out of the inn alone.
After a while, he stopped in front of a medicine shop.
He stared at the sign of Relief Medical Hall for a few seconds, took a deep breath, and entered with the basket on his back.
In the basket were the medicinal plants the siblings had picked in the deep mountains, including half a pound of Angelica, two thumb-sized Ginseng, and a Hundred-Year-Old Lingzhi Mushroom.
He intended to exchange these medicinal plants for silver and followed a merchant caravan through the vast grasslands to the Western Region.
Hearing the footsteps, the shop assistant glanced at the door and saw a young boy, but he didn’t pay much attention to him and looked away.
Without a word, Ye Zilin entered the medicine shop, went around the counter that sold medicinal plants a few times, and got a rough idea of the prices. Then he approached the shop assistant.
“I want to see your shopkeeper. I’m selling medicinal plants.”
He stated his intentions directly, deliberately showing the dagger at his waist.
The shop assistant froze for a moment, staring at the dagger for a few seconds. His heart trembled, and the cold indifference and disregard on his face disappeared without a trace.
“What kind of medicinal plants do you want to sell?”
He put on a smile and asked shakily.
