Chapter 1280: Chapter 1283: Charles Coldwell Makes an Appearance Chapter 1280: Chapter 1283: Charles Coldwell Makes an Appearance Nolan Lucas waited outside the conference room door.
Seeing the door open, Theodore Lucas walked out from inside. He immediately went up to greet him.
“Father, how did the meeting go?”
Theodore Lucas glanced at him and lowered his voice, “Let’s talk when we get back.”
This was the Cabinet conference room, where an urgent meeting involving both the Cabinet and the Military Department had just ended.
“Okay.” Nolan Lucas nodded, following close by Theodore Lucas’s side.
He had not yet formally entered the Cabinet, so he was not qualified to attend this meeting.
And Frank Chamberlain, as the President, was also waiting inside the Presidential Palace at this time. Due to Eastonia’s unique political structure, he also had to abstain from attending such meetings.
The only ones who could make a decision were the Cabinet, representing the President’s opinion, and the Military Department, representing the army’s standpoint.
Of course, the outcome was not necessarily executable. If parliament voted against it, it would not be allowed to pass.
This is the separation of powers in Eastonia.
Seeing his father’s furrowed brows, Nolan Lucas guessed that things might not be going smoothly.
He followed Theodore Lucas, hurrying with a serious expression on his face.
At this moment, a deep and stern voice came from behind.
“Mr. Lucas, please, a moment.”
Theodore Lucas heard the call and stopped. Nolan Lucas also turned around.
Behind them stood a tall and burly man, nearly two meters in height.
A black military uniform wrapped his bronzed skin, and his muscular contours almost burst through the fabric.
Although he was nearly in his fifties, his entire being exuded an overwhelming presence that no one could ignore.
He was like a towering mountain and a firm rock, the most revered guardian of the Eastonians, the king of the Military Department — Charles Coldwell.
“Marshal Coldwell.” Theodore Lucas turned, and even having seen Charles Coldwell many times, he still felt a considerable shock each time he faced him.
Nolan Lucas was almost encountering Charles Coldwell from such a close distance for the first time. He clenched his teeth and forced himself to meet the scrutinizing gaze of Charles Coldwell, feeling the hairs on his back stand on end.
“Hmm.” Cory nodded, his icy gaze moving away from Nolan Lucas.
“You should reconsider the matter we just discussed, Mr. Lucas. We in the Military Department are not afraid of war, but if disputes can be resolved without sending a single soldier to battle, that is always better than waging war.”
“I understand, Marshal Coldwell, but the Cabinet still insists that we cannot easily yield. This is not for personal gain, but for the whole of Eastonia. If we bow down to threats, Eastonia’s international standing will be very awkward in the future.”
Charles Coldwell’s icy gaze fixed on Theodore Lucas’s face, making the scar that ran from his brow bone, across the eyelid, and down to the cheekbone look ferocious and terrifying.
“There are only a few countries in the world that dare to threaten our nation with war. However, since the Cabinet insists on not yielding, then we in the Military Department certainly aren’t afraid either. Rest assured, we are always ready for battle.”
Charles Coldwell said this, but his slightly lifted corner of the mouth carried a hint of amusement.
If Theodore Lucas was a cunning fox, then he, Charles Coldwell, was an eagle soaring through the sky.
Theodore Lucas was sly; he was not foolish. Anyone could speak platitudes, but he would definitely not let his soldiers die for such a trivial matter.
Thinking of that ‘rebellious child’ at home, Charles Coldwell decided to have a good talk with him upon returning.
If it really came down to it, he would have Erina Coldwell command this campaign.
He did not believe that with Erina Coldwell present, Cory would tolerate Europe actually following through with their threats of attack.
“By the way, I will be hosting a banquet next month to formally introduce Hannah to the prominent families of B City. Remember to come early.”
Charles Coldwell spoke coldly, though he was discussing a festive matter, yet his tone was indifferently casual.
