Chapter 805: Chapter 635 What Exactly Did I Say Wrong?
Crunch, crunch, crunch!
The layers of ice encasing Yatagarasu Akiryu shattered piece by piece. He shook off the icy remnants from his body, and his towering figure stepped out of the cavern.
The biting cold wind swept over his exposed skin, yet Yatagarasu Akiryu felt no chill. Standing atop the mountaintop, his gaze pierced through the flying snow, landing squarely on the distant cityscape.
Having prepared in advance, he entered the realm of Sword Master without having fully defined a complete path. Though he hadn’t reached the level of Extreme Path Sword Master, his grasp of swordsmanship and years of relentless refinement put him leagues above ordinary Sword Masters.
Yatagarasu Akiryu’s strength far surpassed that of mere Sword Masters.
He wasn’t a genius, but that evaluation depended on who he was being compared to.
If matched against Sword Master Cold Crow, nearly every cultivator in Everworld could be lumped into the category of imbeciles.
Ever faithful to his father as a role model, Yatagarasu Akiryu maintained an unwavering awareness of his current achievements.
He strode forward, the shadow of the Three-legged Crow faintly flickering, and then, a black Samurai Clothing materialized over his form.
Without immediately heading up the mountain to inform Sword Master Cold Crow of the recent developments, Yatagarasu Akiryu turned toward another direction.
That direction led to the courtyard where Kensumi normally resided.
The gates were tightly shut, but Yatagarasu Akiryu behaved as though he owned the place. Unceremoniously, he pushed the doors open and entered.
At the sound, Kensumi, seated in the outer veranda, lifted his head to see Yatagarasu Akiryu’s smug expression.
In front of Kensumi, a brazier crackled, absent of Yuuki Nao’s usual companionship.
“What are you guarding against?”
Yatagarasu Akiryu grinned, baring teeth as white as frost.
“Worried I might take an interest in that woman?” He sneered, casting a condescending gaze at Kensumi.
“You’re overthinking. She’s pregnant now and needs rest,” Kensumi replied with a detached calm.
“Heh.”
Yatagarasu Akiryu chuckled lightly. “To be honest, I’m genuinely curious–if I did do something to her, what would you do?”
Fixating on Kensumi’s expression, his voice held a venomous edge.
“Would you kill me–or kill her?”
“Oh, by the way, I’ve already reached the rank of Sword Master. With your situation as it stands, harming me is an impossibility.”
“Which means your options are already few.”
“Would you kill her?”
“Or kill yourself?”
Yatagarasu Akiryu chuckled softly, his eyes brimming with mockery.
Kensumi’s lips pressed together tightly, his fingers idly poking at the charcoal in the brazier, seemingly indifferent to Akiryu’s taunts.
At this moment, he lacked even the privilege to display anger.
“You’re really dull, aren’t you?”
Yatagarasu Akiryu smirked. Though violent, he still held onto certain boundaries. Even knowing his remarks were empty threats, some words, once spoken, could never fail to provoke discomfort.
Moreover, placing trust solely in someone else’s moral boundaries was an inherently pathetic gamble.
Recently, after concluding his cultivation sessions, Yatagarasu Akiryu had taken to visiting Kensumi regularly. He had no concrete reason–he simply enjoyed witnessing Kensumi’s current state.
“So, has the thing I asked you to look into made any progress?”
Kensumi’s hand paused briefly before shaking his head. “I don’t know too much more about him than you do.”
“That man is incredibly elusive. I have no way of reaching him.”
“Back then, in order to safely retrieve the Flower of Eternal Darkness, you abandoned him to die in his place. But who could’ve foreseen that Roger’s hidden strength far exceeded your expectations–and then came everything that followed.”
“Do you think he hates you for it?”
“After all, you betrayed his trust.”
“If you used yourself as bait, do you think he’d show himself?”
Yatagarasu Akiryu asked.
“You can always try,” Kensumi replied nonchalantly.
He didn’t look up, his gaze fixed on the brazier’s flames–the warm glow offering a trace of solace against his pallid complexion.
“If you truly want to find him, using yourself as bait might actually be a better choice than using me,” Kensumi suddenly added.
“After all, as long as you stay in Hankawa, he’ll never come looking for revenge.”
Kensumi’s voice was somber, its underlying meaning causing Yatagarasu Akiryu’s heart to skip a beat.
“Hmm, you think I’m afraid of him?”
Kensumi remained silent. In the battle that day, Roger had dominated completely–the outcome was self-evident. In moments like these, silent reticence spoke volumes.
“Heh.” Yatagarasu Akiryu’s laugh was cold, devoid of emotional fluctuation, yet his entire presence grew palpably threatening.
“Fine, very fine.”
“You make a good point.”
“Compared to you, he indeed has more reason to desire my death.”
“If I leave Hankawa, perhaps he will come out willingly.”
Kensumi stayed mute; as the absolute weakling now, anything he said could easily be wrong.
Just then, footsteps echoed from afar, and a figure appeared beside Yatagarasu Akiryu.
“Lord Meiryu, we’ve received news about the three main subordinate Divine Masters of Tengu Shrine.”
“Oh?”
Yatagarasu Akiryu’s interest was piqued instantly. He still recalled the covenant with Sword Master Cold Crow–when he reached the rank of Sword Master, he desired the blood of a fellow master-level adversary to prove his strength and solidify his existence!
No target could be more appropriate than the Divine Masters of Tengu Shrine.
“Who are they?”
“Ran’ei Divine Master, along with the White Wolf and Yamabushi Divine Masters.”
“Three of them?” Yatagarasu Akiryu furrowed his brow. If all three Divine Masters appeared simultaneously, his confidence was nonexistent.
“What’s their situation?” he pursued.
“There’s word that the White Wolf Tengu and Yamabushi Tengu seem to have been injured. They had gone on a mission with Ran’ei Divine Master, but only the two of them returned.”
