Chapter 28: Happy for You

Mo Qiaoyan pushed the butler hard and said angrily, “You let me go. I am your master’s future mother-in-law.”

The butler glanced at her coldly and didn’t bother to even give her an answer. He waved to another servant who was standing beside him and asked the servant to help take Mo Qiaoyan away.

Mo Qiaoyan had always been accustomed to being pampered. Upon being dragged away with servants on both sides of her, she cursed at the top of her lungs. “Mu Beiting, you’re an ungrateful man. You have no conscience and have wronged my daughter. You will not end up well. And you, you little vixen, let me tell you, don’t feel too smug. When my daughter returns, you’ll become a nobody once again. Do you actually think Mu Beiting likes you? You are simply my daughter’s substitute, and he’s just fooling around with you. My daughter is the rightful Madam Mu, so you just wait to be abandoned.”

Upon hearing Mo Qiaoyan’s yelling and cursing, Ye Anxin suddenly smiled. She extricated herself from Mu Beiting’s arms and said with a smile, “Mister, you should feel thankful that you escaped from that marriage. Otherwise, with such a mother-in-law, you would never have had any good days in the future.”

Mu Beiting led Ye Anxin into his house, once again sheltering her in his arms. Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks, lowered his head to stare into her smiling eyes, and asked, “Are you very happy?”

Ye Anxin nodded and admitted, “Of course I’m happy. I’m happy for you. Although my parents certainly aren’t perfect, compared to her, they’re fantastic.”

Mu Beiting gazed deeply at her. When he noticed the clear marks of that horrible woman’s fingerprints on her small pale face, his heart sank. His eyes gleamed coldly, and he reached out to touch her hurt face. He asked in a hoarse voice, “Does it hurt very much?”

Ye Anxin touched her face, then shook her head, and said with a smile, “It doesn’t hurt too badly. This pain doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve long become accustomed to it.”

Upon hearing this, Mu Beiting’s eyes instantly turned gloomy again.

Sensing the change in the expression of his eyes, Ye Anxin knew what he was thinking and immediately explained what she meant. “Ever since I was a young girl, my dad has been a gambler and has constantly owed a lot of gambling debts. Every time the debt collectors came, we would all suffer severe beatings. However, every time I got beaten, my mother was there to protect me, so they were all comparatively light injuries.”

Mu Beiting looked at her, and an inexplicable emotion stirred up from the deepest part of his heart. However, it disappeared so fast that he didn’t have time to think much about it.

Now, he found one of the kitchen servants and asked him, “Go and fry up some eggs and some other food for us.”

The servant immediately went to the kitchen following his orders.

Mu Beiting glanced at Ye Anxin’s swollen, red face. He said, “Just bear with it a little longer. I’ll have the butler prepare some medicine that should make the swelling go down and assuage the pain.”

“I’m fine, I’m really fine. Look, I can speak and I can laugh. It doesn’t hurt at all.” As she said that, because she was afraid that Mu Beiting wouldn’t believe her, she flashed him a big smile. However, the smile tore at the wound on her face a bit, and she sucked in her breath from the pain.

She had to admit that Mo Qiaoyan’s slap had been really heavy. It was as if she had wanted to beat her to death.

Before, her face had been numb from the slap, and she hadn’t felt any pain at all. Now, as the shock was wearing away, she realized that her face felt hot and painful.

Upon seeing her little face grimace in pain, Mu Beiting’s eyes suddenly got dark, and the expression in them grew very, very cold.
