Chapter 782: Chapter 772: Compromise

Xaviera Evans looked up at Caleb Mamet’s calm eyes, and then heard his thoughts: [I indeed lost control a bit last night, but it’s still Mrs. Mamet’s fault for being too delicate. I’d better change the topic quickly, or else she’ll get angry again.]

Xaviera was choked up.

This jerk actually blamed her for what happened! It was clearly him tossing and turning for the whole night without any restraint, and he had the nerve to say she is too delicate?

Also, what does he mean by her getting angry again? It made it sound like she got angry all the time when she clearly had a good temper!

Without saying a word, Caleb helped Xaviera put on her clothes, then carried her downstairs for a meal. The cook had already prepared a table full of dishes, all of which were spicy.

Xaviera liked spicy food because she didn’t have any sense of taste before. Whether it was visual or olfactory stimulation, spicy dishes were more appetizing, and the spiciness was not a sense of taste but a sense of pain, so she could clearly feel the tingling sensation on her tongue.

Ever since she came to the Lowen Clubhouse, the cook had been preparing dishes according to her taste. She was worried that Caleb might not be used to it, so she asked him if he would prefer some lighter dishes. There was no need for him to accommodate her.

But Caleb had gently said at the time — I don’t have much preference for food, as long as it fills me up. I’ll eat whatever Xaviera likes, and I won’t mind at all.

As Xaviera sat in her chair, she looked at the table full of colorful and fragrant dishes and couldn’t help but swallow her saliva. “Steward, why did you make so many tasty dishes today?”

The steward replied: “President Evans instructed the kitchen to start preparing this morning, saying that Mrs. Mamet has been wanting to eat something spicy these days. The cook happened to learn some new dishes, so they made them all for Mrs. Mamet to try.”

Xaviera’s face broke into a smile. She hadn’t cared much about food when she couldn’t taste anything in the past anyway. But Caleb knew that she would recover her sense of taste today, so he specifically ordered the kitchen to make a big table of dishes for her to enjoy. How thoughtful he was.

It was as if Caleb could read her mind, knowing everything she was thinking.

Looking at the table full of dishes, Xaviera couldn’t wait to taste a piece of spicy pepper fried chicken. She immediately narrowed her eyes in satisfaction and picked up a piece of chicken for Caleb. “Caleb, taste it.”

Caleb looked at her with a doting expression on his face and picked up the piece of chicken and put it in his mouth. He showed no reaction, even praising the cook’s skills.

Xaviera thought that Caleb must really like it, considering he usually didn’t like to praise others.

But the next second-

“Cough, cough…” Caleb’s body trembled as he was stimulated by the strong peppercorn flavor, and his eyes reddened slightly with a layer of mist.

Just as Xaviera was about to ask what was wrong, she heard Caleb’s hoarse voice, “Did they put too much chili in this dish?”

Caleb’s lips were red and swollen, and his normally calm eyes were filled with tears. Sweat had also formed on his forehead. Although he tried hard to hide it, it was still obvious that he was struggling from the spiciness.

The man slowly looked up at Xaviera, his eyes filled with astonishment, and smiled softly, “It’s a bit spicy, but the taste is really good.”

Xaviera widened her eyes in surprise, looking at Caleb incredulously, then asked, “Caleb, are you sure you can eat spicy food?”

Caleb calmly took a sip of lemon water and said casually, “Of course, my taste is quite similar to Mrs. Mamet’s. We both like spicy dishes.”

Xaviera looked at him with sympathy for his reddened eyes, not expecting that Caleb would go this far to accommodate her, even in the matter of taste. There was really no need for him to do so.

However, she knew why Caleb did this. When she first came to Lowen Clubhouse, everything was unfamiliar, and a person without a sense of taste wouldn’t be picky about food. As long as she was full, it was enough. She wouldn’t act like a hostess and demand the cook to prepare dishes according to her taste. Caleb must have noticed her uneasiness and tried to accommodate her in every little thing, including eating spicy dishes together.
