Chapter 778: Chapter 778: He Loves Her More Than His Own Life

Elijah Flack’s eyes suddenly turned cold. He knew that Caleb Mamet wasn’t a good person, and he knew that the people Caleb had secretly dealt with all deserved it, but he couldn’t help but worry that such a ruthless man might harm Xaviera in the future.

However, seeing the couple’s affectionate nature, and that Xaviera seemed to know what Caleb had done and didn’t mind, made him somewhat relieved.

Xaviera Evans knew her two elder brothers were coming, so she had already ordered a feast from the kitchen, but she still couldn’t rest easy and went personally to supervise. At the moment, only Caleb and the two brothers were left in the large living room.

The air suddenly grew colder as Quine Heninger, seeing Xaviera gone, became candid and said directly, “Mr. Caleb Mamet, you have a strong smell of blood on you.”

Caleb looked indifferent, replying slowly, “Mr. Heninger, you certainly have a keen nose. Indeed, I just dealt with an insubordinate person.”

Quine leaned on the sofa, glanced around the living room, and smirked, “I didn’t expect that underneath the luxurious Lowen Clubhouse, there’s such a dark and cold dungeon.”

Caleb did not respond.

Quine’s black eyes suddenly turned icy, and his voice lowered, “Xaviera always likes to play the helpless damsel, but I didn’t expect you, Mr. Caleb Mamet, to be the one who hides the most. So, does Xaviera already know your true identity?”

Without directly telling Xaviera that he was Cold Night, Caleb wanted to tease her as part of their couple’s fun. The two brothers didn’t want to interfere, but the matter of the Lowen Clubhouse having a dungeon wasn’t a small one.

Xaviera had the right to know, as she lived here. If Caleb hadn’t told her, it meant he wasn’t being honest with her – how could they then leave Xaviera to a man like that?

Unexpectedly, Caleb only smiled faintly and raised an eyebrow, “Why? Did Xaviera not tell you?”

Quine and Elijah both furrowed their brows, their eyes cold.

The next second, Caleb said with a soft laugh, “Xaviera has known since long ago. She’s been there too and doesn’t care about this matter.”

Elijah looked up with disbelief in his eyes, as did Quine beside him. For any man, this was not something he would dare confess to his partner, but not only had Caleb told Xaviera, he even took her to the dungeon of Lowen Clubhouse – a dark, damp place filled with the stench of blood. Ordinary girls would have been frightened by just a glance.

Having grown up together with Xaviera for over a decade, they knew she wasn’t like other girls and wouldn’t be afraid. But why was Caleb so sure that Xaviera wouldn’t be frightened? If she was scared and distanced herself from Caleb, how could he cope?

Taking a sip of coffee, Caleb said, “You are Xaviera’s elder brothers and grew up together, so you know her well and care about her. But don’t forget, I’ve known her for ten years too. I used to be her senior fellow, and now I’m her husband. Like you, I care for her even more than my own life.”

After a few seconds of silence, Elijah chuckled, “You know, I suddenly feel our concerns were unnecessary.”

Quine furrowed his brow, “Stop calling me little brother.”

In truth, their visit this time was just to get a promise from Caleb. Now, they found that they had overthought it – a promise was useless. If Caleb genuinely cared for Xaviera, even if he didn’t say it, he’d protect her with all his might.

It seemed that Caleb truly…loved Xaviera deeply.

“Mr. Caleb Mamet, I have one more question,” said Elijah with some hesitation.

With mild exasperation at the two still worried about Xaviera’s well-being, Caleb inwardly braced himself, for he would much rather be hurt himself than see her hurt in the slightest. Nevertheless, he said, “Mr. Flack, please ask.”

Elijah’s expression was subtle, and then he tentatively asked, “Well… You don’t really think Xaviera is…gentle and obedient, do you?”

The large living room fell silent. After a moment of quiet, Caleb burst out laughing, his eyes filled with warmth and affection as he said, “Gentle or not, she’s the woman I love the most.”

Elijah understood that whether Xaviera was gentle or not wasn’t important to Caleb. Love didn’t need many reasons.

But he also realized that Caleb knew Xaviera wasn’t a gentle, obedient girl. It seemed her gentle image had collapsed!

Half an hour later, the meal was ready, and Xaviera opened a bottle of her cherished wine.

As everyone took their seats, Elijah said with a meaningful smile, “Xaviera, Mr. Caleb Mamet said he’ll take you to meet Cold Night tomorrow!”
