Chapter 314: Chapter 314: Ji Muye, What Are You Hiding From?
After settling matters at the experiment base, Lu Xining returned to Rain Bridge Village with her daughter.
As soon as she entered the village, she saw that the area in front of her house was packed with cars.
Lu Xining got out of the car holding her daughter and was met with Shang Lvxing’s calm and deep gaze, like dense ink. She frowned and said, “What are you doing here?”
This man had intricate relations with the Beicheng Family, and even though he was a child her mother had brought back, Lu Xining still couldn’t afford to show him a friendly face.
Lu Nuonuo curiously looked at the strikingly handsome man, recognizing him as the pretty uncle from before.
“I know you don’t want to see me, but you would still be interested in hearing about something related to Aunt Chu, right?”
The man’s confident voice paused upon hearing Lu Xining’s response.
She said coldly, “Since you know I don’t want to see you, yet you still come, isn’t that just asking for dislike?”
Hearing her blunt words, a profound expression flitted across Shang Lvxing’s eyes.
The women who appeared around him in the past always presented their most beautiful and graceful selves.
Even if they did not like his personality.
Everyone implicitly maintained polite and courteous manners on the surface.
No one had ever been as straightforward as she was.
Shang Lvxing composed himself, patiently explaining the purpose of his visit to her.
In his hand, he held a black wooden box–an item that had been passed on to him by someone else.
“Haven’t you been looking for something?”
“Perhaps, this is it.”
Whether it was a few years ago or during the recent meeting with Zhou Ni Juan, she had mentioned something repeatedly.
According to her, it was supposed to be compensation from Grandma Lu, yet it remained unseen.
This made her feel like she had fallen into the old lady’s trap.
So, back then, after finding out the item was not with Lu Xining, she rudely sent her away from the Zhou Family’s home where she was staying.
So many years have passed since then.
Lu Xining indeed had secretly sent people to look for the item, but there was never any news.
She had given up hope on the matter.
She never imagined that the item would eventually end up in Shang Lvxing’s hands.
Her gaze scanned the man’s face back and forth, weighing the truthfulness and motives behind his words,
Could it be that Grandma had known about her mother’s identity all along?
Right as Lu Xining was about to take it, the man withdrew the item in his palm, clearly noticing the fleeting look of speechlessness in her eyes.
He slightly curved his lips and said, “I’ve been waiting here for over an hour, asking for a glass of water should be fine, right?”
Lu Xining: “…”
The living room was quiet.
Shang Lvxing sat silently on the sofa, with a glass of water placed on the coffee table in front of him.
After entering the door, he handed the black wooden box to Lu Xining and did nothing else.
Lu Xining opened the box and saw an incredibly clear and fine-quality bracelet. She searched her memory for information on this item but couldn’t recall any memories of it.
She was certain that she had never seen this object by her mother’s side.
If it was meant for her in the end, then why would Grandma prefer to go through several hands to pass the item to Shang Lvxing, instead of keeping it for her directly?
Does this bracelet bring danger?
Or is there another secret?
Lu Nuonuo, clutching her little fox cup, sat opposite him in a small deer chair, hands on the coffee table, staring curiously at the man in front of her with her clear, bright eyes.
“Uncle, why aren’t you drinking water?”
Shang Lvxing looked at the steaming hot water in front of him, tugged the corner of his mouth, not that he didn’t want to drink, but at the current temperature, his throat would be gone if he tried.
He could tell that Lu Xining had a strong aversion to the Beicheng Family.
Watching Little Dumpling’s eyes clear as mirrors, he pursed his lips and drew a smile, saying to her, “Uncle will drink in a bit.”
Gulping down, Lu Nuonuo drank from her cup of warm water at just the right temperature, and though she didn’t understand, she still nodded at Shang Lvxing’s slightly dry lips.
Shang Lvxing wasn’t always looking at Lu Xining, as it would be impolite.
He glanced around the room’s furnishings; although the house was small, everything inside seemed very warm.
Mostly toys belonging to the little dumpling in front of him.
“Nuonuo.” His lazy voice carried a hint of imperceptible sentimentality.
Hearing her name, Lu Nuonuo looked up at him, puzzled.
There was something strange in the way this uncle looked at her.
As if he was looking through her, at someone else who wasn’t there.
Lu Nuonuo’s little head tilted from side to side, and she asked softly, “Uncle, who are you looking at?”
This child’s observational skills were unexpectedly keen.
Shang Lvxing bent his lips into a more pronounced smile across the distance of the coffee table, “I’m looking at Nuonuo.”
His voice, trailing a faint laughter, was pleasant and soothing, easily drawing one into the atmosphere he created.
But Lu Nuonuo sitting opposite wasn’t fooled in the slightest.
Little Dumpling pursed her lips and said, “Uncle, tricking kids isn’t nice.”
She might be young, but she’s not foolish.
Entertained by the little expressions on the child’s face, Shang Lvxing had someone bring over the gifts prepared for her– all the latest toys.
But Lu Nuonuo clearly didn’t lack these things and lost interest after one glance, shifting her gaze away.
She turned to look at Lu Xining who was examining a bracelet, dragged her little deer chair over, inch by inch, until she was beside Shang Lvxing, and looked earnestly into his eyes, “Uncle, do you want to be my daddy too?”
Facing the child’s curious eyes, Shang Lvxing stroked her head.
He lowered his voice like she did, and asked, “What if uncle says yes?”
Lu Nuonuo’s face revealed a ‘just as I suspected’ adorable expression.
She took out a small notebook from the pocket of her orange bib overalls, carefully wrote down a number, and then handed it to Shang Lvxing.
Lu Nuonuo: “Here, uncle’s queue number.”
Looking at the glaring number 250, Shang Lvxing glanced at Little Dumpling, wondering if she meant this as a veiled insult or if she really didn’t understand the implication behind the number.
“My mommy is super popular, you can’t cut in line, uncle.”
Up close, Little Dumpling’s mischievous face matched her earnest soft voice.
He couldn’t help but think, if Aunt Chu and his father hadn’t faced so many setbacks, would this endearing little rice dumpling be his daughter now?
In a certain Chinese-style garden in Beicheng.
Ji Muye, who had just come out of there, felt that urge to sneeze again.
It was an uncomfortable feeling as if someone was coveting his treasure.
He thought of his son back in Jingzhou and Lu Xining and his daughter in Yun City, those dark and bright eyes, and his own eyes suddenly darkened.
In a little while, things will settle down.
Suddenly, a deliberately lowered voice came from behind; Ji Muye’s eyes darkened as he swiftly stepped aside before the other person got closer.
The girl who missed her target frowned unhappily and, gazing at his night-dark eyes, demanded, “Ji Muye, what are you avoiding?”
