Chapter 648: Chapter 649: Still Not Awake?
“Okay, go ahead, dinner is ready. Wash up and then come to eat.”
Tang Zelin’s voice drew out the three children who had been doing homework in the western room.
The first to come out was Lu Tong, who at nine years old seemed a tad taller than the last time Tang Zelin saw him, though he wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination.
Following him was the slightly shy Xiaopang today and Xiao’ai, who still clutched her dinosaur and wasn’t too talkative.
However, today Xiao’ai did politely greet Tang Zelin with a “Little Uncle” when she saw him.
Tang Zelin was very pleased. He went over and ruffled each child’s hair before lifting Xiao’ai up high in the air, filling the room with her giggling laughter.
The children’s laughter made the whole house suddenly lit up, filled with joy.
The family of five sat down together and enjoyed a cheerful meal.
During the meal, Tang Zelin noticed Lu Tong hesitating to speak several times and understood that the perceptive child wanted to ask something.
“Lu Tong, eat first, and after dinner, Uncle Tang has something to tell you.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Tong’s face immediately lit up with joy and anticipation, understanding what was meant.
After the meal, as Su Shu cleaned up, Tang Zelin took the opportunity to call Lu Tong into his room, slightly closing the door behind them, planning to have a serious talk about Lu Tong’s Uncle Yao Ke.
Outside, Su Shu continued cleaning quietly.
The man’s deep voice was uneven through the door, fluctuating in volume.
It sounded so pleasant that the house seemed instantly filled with warmth.
But it wasn’t long before muffled crying sounds from a child could be heard from the room.
Su Shu lowered her eyelashes, thinking to herself that Yao Ke’s condition must not be well.
Soon after, Lu Tong came out of the room with red eyes and, seeing Su Shu not far away, said with a nasal voice, “Auntie Su, I’m going to sleep.”
“Okay, it’s good to wash up and go to bed early.”
After Lu Tong went back to his room, Su Shu turned off the outside lights and entered the room.
She saw Tang Zelin sitting on the edge of the bed, hands clasped, his head bowed in thought.
She approached and placed her hand on his broad shoulder.
“What are you thinking about?”
Tang Zelin looked up and gave a small smile.
“Nothing.”
“Did you tell him everything?”
“I told him about Yao Ke’s situation. It’s quite hard to accept, but Lu Tong is really something, very sensible.”
Su Shu sat down beside him, “Has Captain Yao awoken yet?”
Tang Zelin didn’t speak immediately, then nodded lightly.
“They can’t find the cause, but he just won’t wake up.”
“What about now, is he still in B Province?”
“Yes, I’ve asked the old man to keep an eye on him.”
Speaking of Tang Husheng, Su Shu expressed concern, “How’s dad doing? He seemed quite irritable when we left.”
Tang Zelin looked at her and took her small hand into his, enclosing it within his palm.
“The old man is getting on in years, back in his younger days, this would have been nothing to him, but now he’s gone through so much hassle his hair has whitened a good deal,” Tang Zelin’s tone conveyed the worry inherent in being a son.
But both father and son are soldiers, having spent their lives standing guard, gun in hand.
Throughout the year, getting to see each other was not easy at all.
Suddenly, Tang Zelin changed the subject, “However, during this visit, the old man couldn’t stop singing your praises. Tell me, how did you win over my father? He kept nagging in my ear not to bully you, to treat you well.” His words were rife with barely concealed amusement.
Su Shu realized that his teasing tone implied that he was making fun of her.
Unable to help but laugh, she replied, “I think dad’s right, you shouldn’t carelessly bully me, otherwise… hmm.”
